Just curious.
I have really poor eyesight (-4.50) and have wore glasses full time since a child

-6.5 in both eyes for my contact lenses whoch has been the same for years. My glasses are a little stronger once adjusted for various things. Also means my reading vision is better with my lenses.
The optician says I don't need reading glasses just yet but I do find it harder in low light or writing on certain colours harder. I'm 51 so know that will likely change soon!

My son has had these for two years and his eyesight hasn't worsened at all in that time. I really hope he doesn't have all the problems I have had with my vision.

My son has also been wearing the myopia management contact lenses for about 6 months.
Between direct debits for both my own and his contact lenses and PAYG for DD it feels like quite a chunk each month! But hopefully it works for DS , we have a check up soon

LadyOfACertainAge · 17/10/2025 08:45

-3.75 in both eyes and that feels bad enough for me, so no idea how some of you cope! I can’t function with glasses or lenses…even holding my phone at a reasonable distance makes it hard to read.

About lenses in the pool..I wear mine and goggles, my logic being that because my eyes never get wet they’re ok. Is that right? I really should just get prescription goggles though!

Same for my daughter. She’s at -2.5 now and so even it they don’t get any worse it’s worth it I think

For those contact lens wearers facing wearing reading glasses ask your optician about 'mono vision'. It's where you're least dominant eye is under corrected. It's worked for me but I'm not sure it will for everyone

I can only tell you what the eye consultant said which was that I should never wear my lenses in the pool unless I wanted the eye infection again.

I am not at all risk averse, but this was something I was not prepared to risk. He initially thought it was a very rare infection that would lead to me losing the sight in that eye.

EveryDayisFriday · 17/10/2025 08:52

Very weak prescription, I can see perfectly well without glasses. However glasses make everything HD so I wear them all the time. I also have a light sensitivity so wearing sunglasses adaptive lenses helps with that.

yes this is what I have and it works very well. I think it might be more suitable for lower scrips than some of the ones on here tho

BurnTheWholeThingDown · 17/10/2025 08:57

This is really interesting as I am only +0.5 and -0.25 but I really struggle without glasses or lenses. DH is +6 in both eyes and I thought he was on the very top end of bad eyesight.

Mine obviously don’t focus together so I can’t see but it’s such a tiny number in comparison with all those on here!

I wear mine in the pool and have done since I started wearing lenses 27 years ago, I’m worried now!

I thought it’d be ok if I wear my special goggles that never let any water in, i’m really really careful about it.

I wonder if I should get some prescription googles now.

Can anyone explain the numbers on the prescription? I’m -2.5 and my eyesight is awful, I also have astigmatism. Judging by these comments that’s not classed as bad as thought it would be.

Rufhvh · 17/10/2025 09:03

-12 with astigmatism.
My eyes are continuously getting worse.
I’ve had a detached retina and tears due to it, and have a scleral buckle.

EdinaTheConfessor · 17/10/2025 09:10

-8.5

I have a question actually for all you high prescription glasses wearers. How the hell do you apply make up?? I am a life long contact lens wearer and always put them in before doing hair and make up but have recently had some new glasses which I’d like to wear more.
But I can’t see without them, and I can’t do my make up with them on. Help!

hiredandsqueak · 17/10/2025 09:12

+10 both eyes with astigmatism. Blind as a bat without my specs gets worse every eye test. Without the specs I can't even recognise my own dc a short distamce away.

hilariousnamehere · 17/10/2025 09:21

This is so interesting, I've always had by far the worst sight of all my friendship groups and it's weirdly nice to know I'm not alone with my prescription!

-8.5 and -10.5 for me, both with astigmatism, have had soft contacts in my youth but have worn glasses full time since age 4 and they're part of me so just wear them all the time now, can't be arsed with contact lens faff.

I have a prescription dive mask for swimming and carry a spare pair absolutely everywhere (plus another spare pair in boot of car) because like some PPs, I can't find my glasses without wearing them, nor see people clearly enough to recognise them without them on.

Clearinguptheclutter · 17/10/2025 09:22

-2.5 and -1.75

not that bad and I can potter round the house without them just about ok. But I wear virtually full time

TallulahBetty · 17/10/2025 09:31

-3.75 and -4.25. I wear contacts 5 days out of the week, glasses the rest. Been wearing them since I was 13, so nearly 30 years, and I can definitely tolerate them for shorter periods now.

Yes, do try this. I am a lifelong contact lens wearer and I when I reached my 40s, I started to need reading glasses on top. My optician then suggested I try having the prescription in one eye corrected for reading and the other corrected more for distance and it works great. I haven’t needed reading glasses again.

GentleSheep · 17/10/2025 09:42

Not got my prescription to hand but around +5. Only began wearing glasses in my late 40s and full time wearing probably from around 60.

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 09:43

-4.75 in both eyes

There are nose prints on my mirror from how close I have to get to it to apply eye make up.

Hereforthecommentz · 17/10/2025 09:44

-3.75 I hate wearing glasses they are annoying and fog up when it's cold.

RaraRachael · 17/10/2025 10:22

@EdinaTheConfessor I don't wear make up for the reason I can't see what I'm doing to apply it.
Besides, behind my thick glasses it's pointless.

TigerRag · 17/10/2025 10:32

-1.75 & -1.25 but glasses actually do very little. I can only read the third line corrected with my good eye

Glasses44 · 17/10/2025 11:04

TheyRepulseMe · 16/10/2025 23:47

That isn't classed as really poor eyesight.

I'm -9

That is poor eyesight.

Lol ok

Not me but DH.right eye -7 with 3 astigmatism and left eye -14. However after cataract surgery on both eyes he now has 20/20 vision and astigmatism 0.1 but still has glasses for reading.
