A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Good. It helps when reading some Labour loyal posts on here.

They are getting fewer and fewer by the day

TheNuthatch · 16/10/2025 11:17

Sorry, I'm being lazy and not going on other threads atm. Can't be arsed arguing with the deluded rn.

Good. It helps when reading some Labour loyal posts on here.

You can tell how thick some of them are, when they focus on claiming a derisory amount of ‘state support’ rather than the mother of all economic blunders this Government are making.

Says it all, really.

It's very easy to make voluntary extra payments to the government. You can even choose whether your contributions should be used to pay down borrowing or for general expenditure.

I pointed this out to someone who claimed to want to pay more tax on another thread. You never saw such rapid back-pedalling! S/he didn't mean her/him; s/he meant that s/he thought everyone else should.

Apparently her/his contribution wouldn't be worth doing. As Voltaire said, every snowflake thinks he isn't responsible for the avalanche.

I remember George Osborne talking about it on Political Currency, he said he made a point of writing to anyone who made such a payment personally to say thank you. I’m sure that all these fans of extra tax would love a thank you note from Rachel - their Best Chancellor Ever™️.

Also, if Reeves goes after savings - it will adversely impact the level of funds lenders are able to advance for mortgage lending, which will lead to…. Yes, you guessed it, higher mortgage rates.

Morons.

Thanks. I know we aren't the only ones going through it.
We've pared everything back to the bare minimum so I honestly don't know how we can give anything more.
Of course we aren't entitled to claim anything because DH got a payout....which was fucking taxed at a shocking rate 😡😡😡 if it wasn't for the tax we would be OK. So we pay for him to be made redundant but now can't claim anything. It's so fucked up, those who don't contribute get fuck all.

They did make sure they didn't tax the first £30k, didn't they? If not, that needs correcting.

Yes first 30K not taxed but then hammered on the rest

MantleStatue · 16/10/2025 11:57

twistyizzy · 16/10/2025 08:55

Agree.
We have signed up to Too Good To Go for cheap food bags at the end of the day, stopped all charity donations (used to be 10% of monthly take home), stopped anything but essentisl insurance, only shop at Lidl etc.
Got to make DH redundancy stretch out as long as possible cos thanks to Reeves the job market in pharma is utter shite as they are all pulling out of UK.

yeah same. We also make liberal use of Too Good To Go bags. We don't turn the heating on and have decided not to do so unless the house gets to about 14 degrees. We have an electric shower so turned off the hot water weeks ago.

We have two DCs in an indy and the extra £800 a month on VAT on school fees alone has become crippling. We are hanging on white knuckled for DS1 who really needs to be in this school due to their SEN provision and pastoral care provision. But I have no idea what to do next. FFS I applied for temp work to do in addition to my full time professional role.

Most of our money is in bricks and mortar. It's not easily liquidised. I am terrified of a 'wealth tax' hitting property - we did a back of the envelope calculation when it was first put forward by the Lib Dems and we would be liable for more tax than we actually earn BEFORE tax. It's fucking madness to bleed the people who are already contributing the most dry.

Of course people are leaving in droves. But I guess RR won't 'accept those figures' like B-bloody-P 'doesn't accept' the figures of students leaving the private sector.

Upstartled · 16/10/2025 12:01

I haven't seen any fleshed out wealth tax proposals that aren't just from some radical think tank of forever-students. What were the LibDems saying?

There is a current parallel thread on here suggesting that if Labour fuck the budget up they will be out for a generation. However, what always gets me is the Labour to i die attitude of the majority of posters.

The mind numbing stupidity of posters with Degrees, Masters and PHD's that occupy this site that never cease to amaze me with. The inability of these posters to see straightforward issues, causes and the solutions beggars belief .

One current poster highlights the current problems than goes on to suggest Farage is a bad man who will destroy Britain if elected. For gods sake can this poster not understand another four years of this current Government we will be living in a 'Marxist' hell hole. That's the best outcome, the more likely outcome of another four years of the current administration as Professor David Betts has said is a Civil war !

Nigel Farage is not everybody's cup of tea, however he at the present time is the best/only person available to save Britain fro 3rd world status within 10 years!

The Labour die hard thing is odd. Why do those very average, uninspiring and incompetent politicians inspire the levels of belief you see on here?

I think it’s a pay thing isn’t it? Which is fine it’s normal to want more pay whether public sector or dependent. I suppose we just need not to so many in that group that it doom spirals policy.

Just that ‘life long’ thing for some politicians, can’t relate to that.

Upstartled · 16/10/2025 12:07

There isn't a qualification that will ward off group think when you have the heady combination of identity and conformity.

Reliance (on the state), and envy (of those who have aspirations to better their lot).

Oh, and you can throw in mediocrity, sloth, ignorance, and plain vanilla stupidity.

EmpressoftheMundane · 16/10/2025 12:15

Taxing wealth could force a lot of house sales which would be a disaster. I hope they have thought that through, and won’t cause the economy further blows.

Too many people are insulated from reality due to the largess of the state. They want more without understanding where it must come from. Our taxes are so progressive that lots of folks can argue for higher taxes because they don’t expect to pay them. A penny on the basic rate with a freeze on benefits really would be everyone in it together with skin in the game.

As long as a minority pays for everything while an infantilised group of takers whine unceasingly for more, we will never have good governance in democracy.
