A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Come on Reeves, do it - bring the entire rotten edifice down on 26th November.

Only then, can we start the process of you and your lot getting the boot.

EasternStandard · 16/10/2025 09:56

The UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 0.1pc during August, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), marking only a mild recovery from July’s downwardly revised to a 0.1pc contraction.

More blame elsewhere incoming.

Useless lot.

0.1% down and then 0.1% up? Didn't Reeves forecast 2% growth for '25?

So, that's what now... April -0.3%, May -0.1%, June 0.4%, July -0.1, August 0.1%

So, I'm not an economist but that looks like the sum total of fuck all growth so far. So where's the magical 2% coming, y'know, the fruit of taking out another whopping fucking loan, a catalyst for growth coming from?

Its a nasty cocktail.

The markets are pricing a 50 bps cut in the US by year end.

Bailey will naturally help his mates in Labour.

Yes I think you're right, but it isn't helping when the broader economy is stuttering.
We're seeing this in construction too. Some areas are doing better, around energy etc because of capital investment. But it isn't filtering through so other areas (mine) are dead, because other investment just isn't there.
The last time we saw some growth in construction, it wasn't new project starts, it was repairs.

Ha ikr, the further and faster jar that only Reeves and Starmer know about.

AbsentosaurusRex · 16/10/2025 10:28

Just reading the latest on this thread. Labour are now only an emetic to me. Particularly Reeves with her new rictus grin in photos (I will not cry again look I’m happy etc). The fake grin reminds me of meghan markle photos. In the worst possible way - a fixed, unnatural smile / grimace. Hiding the utter crap which lies behind. 🤮 Some might say like Dorian Gray. But well, there’s no beauty involved.

And on the benefits issue. About 15yrs ago I finished a contract (self employed at the time). Well the contract finished but I couldn’t find another for a while. So was advised by friends etc to get JSA (or whatever it was called then). So I called them up to sort it out (using the phone to talk to a real person - different times!), and they told me I wasn’t ‘entitled’ to anything. But I’ve worked and paid tax for many years, since I was 18 in fact.. You’re still not eligible. But the people who’ve just turned up to the uk and paid no tax Are eligible? Yes. 😶

That’s a shortened version. That was my first experience of the blatant con that is being a high tax payer in the uk.

So, @twistyizzy or anyone, if you’ve got adhd and are eligible to claim pip for it - I say do so. Everyone else is, why shouldn’t you. I’d never have said that before. But now, well thanks Labour. 👏🏻

*I actually think pip should only be for physically disabled people. Or people that cannot work due to their disability (be it physical and or mental). But thems are not the rules, so take advantage, why not.

Nolletimiere · 16/10/2025 10:35

Rathbones forecast a GBP 100 bn exodus should Labour introduce a wealth tax.

Caerphilly bi-election polling

Survation poll for @CamlasCymru makes it a two horse race between Reform and Plaid:

Reform - 41.61%
Plaid Cymru - 38.29%
Labour - 12.37%
Conservative - 3.65%
Liberal Democrat - 1.35%
Green Party - 2.72%

Bear in mind Labour previously had an 18 point majority here and 46% of the vote.

Excellent 😁
I don't care who wins, as long as Labour lose.

Liz SR was ribbing Starmer on this yesterday, asking why he hadn't visited to help with the Labour campaign there 😂.

But they are all happy to pay more tax. They tell us all the time

It's very easy to make voluntary extra payments to the government. You can even choose whether your contributions should be used to pay down borrowing or for general expenditure.

I pointed this out to someone who claimed to want to pay more tax on another thread. You never saw such rapid back-pedalling! S/he didn't mean her/him; s/he meant that s/he thought everyone else should.

Apparently her/his contribution wouldn't be worth doing. As Voltaire said, every snowflake thinks he isn't responsible for the avalanche.

Do loud virtue signalling that they are happy to pay tax yet when you explain that the mechanism is there, they back pedal furiously 😄

So, they've lost 34% of the voting population - in a little over a year?
