What do you eat because it is good for you but you don’t actually like it?

I’m not a big fruit lover but just looked in the fridge and thought, I must buy some raspberries and strawberries but I don’t actually like them so I eat a few then they go off within a day or two and I end up throwing them out. Teen dc doesn’t like them either!

I do like bananas and avocados and lots of veg just not fruit particularly.

What do you buy and make yourself eat because it’s good for you but you don’t actually like it?!

Fruits full of sugar so if you would prefer to eat similarly coloured vegetables just stick with that or buy frozen and defrost as and when.

MadameDeveria · 30/09/2025 14:26

Brazil nuts! I don’t like the taste but they’re very good for you. So I eat one every couple of days but hide the taste with an almond or blueberry.

Lostatsea2025 · 30/09/2025 14:26

Steamed spinach - it feels like it coats my teeth with a weird fur but it’s very good for you apparently. I LOVE strawberries and rasperberries though 😆

Thatpastalife · 30/09/2025 14:26

To add I don’t eat things I don’t like as lifes to short but I can jazz up most vegetables 😂🙌🏻.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 30/09/2025 14:28

Vegetables - aubergines are ok; but we suspect they upset DH’s stomach!

BettyTurpinPies · 30/09/2025 14:28

Nothing. I'd look for alternatives to the berries and eat those instead.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 30/09/2025 14:29

Broccoli.

It has set a good example as both of my boys will eat it without a fight now, too.

Tbrg · 30/09/2025 14:30

I’m like that with bananas - I buy them but don’t like the texture of them, but know they are good for me. I end up eating them with custard which probably outweighs the health benefits but it’s the only way I can tolerate them!

Holluschickie · 30/09/2025 14:30

Greek yoghurt.

TomatoSandwiches · 30/09/2025 14:31

Anything that DS17 asked to try and ended up not liking, so there's currently some frozen blueberries I'm not a fan of, some protien powder that's grainy and some actimels, that aren't awful but I wouldn't buy them for myself and I after these won't again.

Notagain25 · 30/09/2025 14:31

Yes it was a revelation to realise I didn’t have to buy them!

I'm afraid I'd gag if I tried to eat anything I didn't like the taste or texture of. There's plenty of choice for other things I will eat.

As for upping your fruit intake, take baby steps. I am not a fan of fruit generally apart from raspberries, and that is more about texture than taste. I now make a coarse mix with the hand blender of pears, kiwi, avocado, blueberries, strawberries. I add a few drops of vanilla and store in an airtight container in the fridge. It usually lasts the week and I put a couple of tablespoons on top of my porridge or Greek yogurt every day. It tastes good, and I can cope with the texture once it's all mixed up!

I definitely avoid whole apples, pears, kiwis and so on, I just can't stomach them in that form. I know that it is said that some of the nutrition is taken away by blending, or it increases sucrose or some other blather. I don't care, better for me to have it this way than not at all!

KStockHERO · 30/09/2025 14:34

Nothing.

Life's too short to eat food you don't like.

EvelynBeatrice · 30/09/2025 14:34

Oily fish. Yuck.

spoonbillstretford · 30/09/2025 14:35

Nothing. I don't eat anything only because it's good for me.

tobee · 30/09/2025 14:37

I like pretty much all food, but I m not really fond of porridge and it seems to come up a lot as a healthy breakfast option; slow release carbs or something! I prefer savoury breakfast and a bit more texture 😀

TheCurious0range · 30/09/2025 14:37

Spinach, but I get anaemic so make an effort to eat iron rich foods in addition to the supplements. I can eat the baby stuff in salads etc but I definitely eat it because it's good for me rather than thinking oohh yum spinach

spoonbillstretford · 30/09/2025 14:37

I wouldn't worry about your fruit intake at all. Can you not manage 250ml of juice? You're done. Cucumbers, avocados, peppers, squash and tomatoes are all fruit.

Augustus40 · 30/09/2025 14:39

A tin of sardines in tomato sauce. Tastes rank but I sometimes eat it on toast jazzed up with a few slices of vine tomato.

You have to eat a lot of spinach to make it worth your while. Do you not eat meat, fish, beans, pulses or dried fruits?

Slimtoddy · 30/09/2025 14:43

I put some cacao powder in my coffee/breakfast. I don't particularly like it.

I don't like fruit much either as I don't really have a sweet tooth. But I try and eat 2 serves of fruit a day. Mainly berries.

I also made a chickpea curry yesterday. Not a fan but I am newly vegetarian so trying to up my legumes.

MissyB1 · 30/09/2025 14:48

Salmon, make myself have it once a week.

Sugarahhoneyhoney · 30/09/2025 14:49

Absolutely nothing. I like all the food I eat and my diet is exceptionally good.

The things I don't like, I simply don't eat.

In the same way no one can force you to be healthy and no one can force you to be unhealthy. As an adult you control everything.

Yes to all of those things. I think it's genetic I'm very pale red haired and my mum has been anaemic on and off most of her life. TMI but I also have very heavy periods. But if I can stop guilt eating spinach I'm in!
