What do you eat because it is good for you but you don’t actually like it?

I’m not a big fruit lover but just looked in the fridge and thought, I must buy some raspberries and strawberries but I don’t actually like them so I eat a few then they go off within a day or two and I end up throwing them out. Teen dc doesn’t like them either!

I do like bananas and avocados and lots of veg just not fruit particularly.

What do you buy and make yourself eat because it’s good for you but you don’t actually like it?!

I love my food and I’m very much an enthusiastic omnivore. There isn’t much I won’t eat, but I do draw the line at wholemeal pasta & brown rice. I much prefer the normal stuff but I do occasionally feel guilty about my fibre intake & buy some. Invariably I will cook it once, remind myself exactly why I don’t like it then the rest sits in the cupboard until the next clear-out when it gets binned.

Nothing, I like almost all foods other than offal. I should probably eat liver for the iron. Tbh that's more about not being bothered to cook it than having a massive objection to eating it. Maybe I should just buy liver paté more often!

coxesorangepippin · 30/09/2025 20:21

Most veg really

secondtimelucky87 · 30/09/2025 21:49

Salmon🤢

Cinaferna · 30/09/2025 21:55

I don't like bananas that much but since reading they can help stop night cramp in the legs, I eat one every other day and the night cramps has disappeared. It's the potassium I think.

Anything that DS17 asked to try and ended up not liking, so there's currently some frozen blueberries I'm not a fan of, some protien powder that's grainy and some actimels, that aren't awful but I wouldn't buy them for myself and I after these won't again.

Ditto! DS ( also 17) is experimenting with cooking with different ingredients. Half of them end up my way, whether I like them or not!

henlake7 · 30/09/2025 22:14

Nothing really. I eat a mostly wholefood plant based diet and luckily I really love fruit, veg, beans, nuts, etc.
I do take supplements coz of the vegan thing so I think if I didn't like something I'd probably just supplement that instead!

Wigtopia · 30/09/2025 22:18

Carrots. I don’t like them raw or cooked but they are relatively cheap and DP is a fan so I suck it up.

Celery is one I want to like as I love the smell but the taste and stringy texture is something I can’t get past!

Vegetables - aubergines are ok; but we suspect they upset DH’s stomach!

Aubergines and courgettes make my DH ill as well. Shame as I love them.

AltitudeCheck · 30/09/2025 23:25

I am vegetarian and there's really nothing that I eat just for health. I like all the fruit and veg I can think of, all the legumes and nuts and dairy too. That said I think I just love eating 😆I will happily snack on a dry Ryvitta so I think my bar for not liking food is pretty low, if it's vegetarian and not gone off/ spoiled it's fair game!

alfonzi · 30/09/2025 23:27

I’m quite fortunate that after being a picky eater as a child I grew up to enjoy a wide range of healthy (and not so healthy!) food such as : Salmon, mackerel, avocado, broccoli, carrots, peas, sweet peppers, Greek yoghurt.

I actually prefer brown bread or sourdough bread to white bread and like brown rice as much as white rice.

I can’t think of any fruits I don’t like - usually have bananas, apples, mangos and pineapples, pears, kiwis, fresh and frozen berries.

Also like oats and chia seeds!

I rarely want or drink fizzy juice or fruit juice and prefer water.

BUT I do have an appetite for cakes, pastries and chocolate and occasionally sweets so definitely not saying my diet is perfect ! 😆

ChangingWeight · 30/09/2025 23:33

Honestly, nothing. I generally eat what I want but I’m slim and a gym goer so clearly get the right nutrition in as haven’t gained weight and am seeing gym gains.

EG I don’t like raspberries much so I don’t buy them, but I do buy strawberries, watermelon, pretty much any other fruit so I still consume fruit.

Likewise I don’t really eat meat as I don’t enjoy it or crave the taste. I was vegan a few years ago and it was hard to get protein in, so I stopped being vegan and switched to vegetarian protein like halloumi. Therefore I’m not reliant on the things I don’t like, such as meat or edamame beans etc.

Hohumdedum · 30/09/2025 23:47

Olives, although after forcing myself to eat the odd one a week for five years they are slightly growing on me.

I made my own sauerkraut last year. I loathed it but forced myself to eat it over the course of six months because it's meant to be good for the gut.

Ten years ago I'd have said raw tomatoes but after a decade I now have learned to like them.

tellmesomethingtrue · 30/09/2025 23:53

Tomatoes

Oily fish. Yuck.

I am the same, have to season it to disguise the taste! 🤮

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 01/10/2025 01:51

Salad. Lettuce is a waste of chewing muscles. I have it when its part of a meal, but if i never had it again id be ok.

I eat bananas, but don't like them.

They're cheap, nutritious, portable and come in their own packaging!

I often have one at work as a convenient snack. I also have one on porridge before cross fit, to properly fuel me.

I completely agree. I don't hate them but I definitely don't like them and sometimes I really get the ick mid banana at the texture. Taste is nice.
But they're soooo handy to grab on the way to work as a small breakfast and so v good for you that I sort of love them, without liking them. DH feels the same but we get through about 15 a week!

Changingplace · 01/10/2025 04:08

Nothing, if I didn’t like something I don’t eat it!

I’m not much of a picky eater though, the only things I don’t really like are smoked salmon and egg whites so I just don’t eat them. I guess if the thing you don’t like is all veg then you should make yourself have some but if it’s just one thing I’d have an alternative.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/10/2025 04:13

Salmon. Really not a fan.

caringcarer · 01/10/2025 04:36

Bananas. I know they have potassium and are good for you so I eat 4 as week but definitely don't like their taste.

AramintaWildbloode · 01/10/2025 05:59

Nothing. If I don’t like it I don’t eat it.

Me too, I’m genuinely really surprised folks are sitting eatinv food on the regular they dislike as they think it’s good for them.

take the poster forcing down 4 bananas a week, why not just have an electrolytes drink if you want potassium, or take a supplement, or eat any of the irher foods high in potassium, potatoes, beans, green veg, avocados etc.

i don’t think their is any single food where you can only get a vitamin from, there is always multiple sources.

Clockface222 · 01/10/2025 08:30

I am really surprised at the number of people forcing themselves to eat bananas, they are not even that good for you and are much higher in sugar than most other fruit options. I do get the cost and convenience aspect though and it is sad that they are so much cheaper than local, seasonal fruit.
