What do you eat because it is good for you but you don’t actually like it?

I’m not a big fruit lover but just looked in the fridge and thought, I must buy some raspberries and strawberries but I don’t actually like them so I eat a few then they go off within a day or two and I end up throwing them out. Teen dc doesn’t like them either!

I do like bananas and avocados and lots of veg just not fruit particularly.

What do you buy and make yourself eat because it’s good for you but you don’t actually like it?!

Everything else that I don't like I don't make myself eat

SevenHundredandFortyThreeThree · 30/09/2025 18:12

Nothing- I like all foods except pumpkin and kidneys and I can manage perfectly ok without those.

BankfieldForever · 30/09/2025 18:13

Nothing. I don’t eat anything I don’t like and I’ve been perfectly healthy for 55 years.

I do have a varied diet though, if you only liked, say, burnt sausages I can see the need to force yourself to eat things you don’t like.

I certainly wouldn’t eat fruit if I didn’t like it, its not necessary, you don’t need the sugar and you can get vitamins and fibre from other things.

I don’t eat anything I don’t like.

Fearfulsaints · 30/09/2025 18:14

None

I have ground linseed in my cereal which I guess I wouldnt bother with if it wasn't good for me, but i dont not like it. Just a bit indifferent to it.

OhNoNotSusan · 30/09/2025 18:15

Brazil nuts! I don’t like the taste but they’re very good for you. So I eat one every couple of days but hide the taste with an almond or blueberry.

People are all so different! I love brazil nuts, unfortunately!

The texture - crunchy yet fatty and the mild taste is gorgeous. I have to ration them.

Blueberries though…ew.

applegingermint · 30/09/2025 18:18

Salmon. I just don’t like the taste.

I like fish though, and enjoy sardines on toast.

In the same vein I can’t stand chunky pate or rillettes but adore smooth chicken liver pate.

I'm not a huge fruit fan either, but I love salad and vegetables. There are very few vegetables I dislike, so I don't need to make myself eat things that are good for me.

Spinach, but I get anaemic so make an effort to eat iron rich foods in addition to the supplements. I can eat the baby stuff in salads etc but I definitely eat it because it's good for me rather than thinking oohh yum spinach

Liver is better for iron, and is delicious if you cook it properly.

idontknow54789 · 30/09/2025 18:21

Why would you eat things you don’t like? I don’t like broccoli so I don’t eat it - there’s plenty of other vegetables out there to eat instead! I like fruit but don’t really eat it as it’s very high in sugar - I wouldn’t force yourself to eat it if you don’t like it, you can get vitamins in other ways.

rosydreams · 30/09/2025 18:23

canned prunes if i dont eat them it causes terrible pile flare ups.I hate them but have to eat them rip

Oily fish. Yuck.

Yes - salmon and all other oily fish. Disgusting.

Onelifeonly · 30/09/2025 18:24

Nothing! I like most things anyway and a lot of them are healthy. Food is one of life's pleasures, why force down anything unpalatable?

Pennyhillxxx · 30/09/2025 18:24

I am not a fan of fruit so rarely eat it .I dislike yogurt but try it occasionally. Generally I just eat what I fancy. Some healthy and some food not so healthy!

I enjoy liver, I'm not squeamish about most things!

CautiousLurker01 · 30/09/2025 18:32

British tomatoes… love them when on holiday in italy etc, but the watery, flavourless standard ones over here are a chore to eat. But DH insists I have some has he loves them…

Lulu1919 · 30/09/2025 18:32

I don't eat coco pops for breakfast !!

Lulu1919 · 30/09/2025 18:33

Is Greek yogurt supposed to be especially healthy?

Yes Greek yoghurt is very healthy. High protein i add a teaspoon of maple syrup. But good Greek yoghurt is delicious.

Catpiece · 30/09/2025 18:57

Detox tea bags. Taste like horse piss so they must be flushing my liver

smallglassbottle · 30/09/2025 18:59

Sardines. They're all we can afford and oily fish is good for you, but i had to force myself to eat them yesterday. I might have to mix them in with something.

AdaColeman · 30/09/2025 19:00

I like a wide range of foods, including things like offal and seafood that a lot of people seem to dislike, even though they are "good" for you, liver is rich in iron for instance. So I'm not worried about avoiding the very few things that I dislike.

CornflakeGirlsClub · 30/09/2025 19:02

Brown rice. Not my favourite. White basmati is far tastier, but I only have it now and then as I know the brown stuff is much better for me.

I am the same with salmon. I don’t mind it tinned although I much prefer tuna - could eat that for every meal!!
