What do you eat because it is good for you but you don’t actually like it?

I’m not a big fruit lover but just looked in the fridge and thought, I must buy some raspberries and strawberries but I don’t actually like them so I eat a few then they go off within a day or two and I end up throwing them out. Teen dc doesn’t like them either!

I do like bananas and avocados and lots of veg just not fruit particularly.

What do you buy and make yourself eat because it’s good for you but you don’t actually like it?!

Avocados

purplecorkheart · 30/09/2025 17:35

Not a great fan of fruits or salad however will make myself eat them if they are served to me. I do like bananas and love nearly all veg so have that instead, I decided a few years ago I do not have to make food I do not enjoy at home.

Marianne54 · 30/09/2025 17:39

Not what but how. I eat in a disciplined way to stay at a healthy weight.

workingcocker · 30/09/2025 17:40

Lettuce - therefore I cover it in ceasar dressing and Parmesan!

autienotnaughty · 30/09/2025 17:41

broccoli

bkack beans

I keep trying with the Greek yogurt - waste a lot of money on it + seeds + berries but it’s just not satisfying especially at this time of the year.

Is Greek yogurt supposed to be especially healthy?

TheWytch · 30/09/2025 17:45

Kale - I eat it because it's good for you and because it comes in my veg box. I can only tolerate it as soup though.

I rarely eat fruit of any sort as I'm really not a big fan and I can get the nutritional benefits elsewhere

XenoBitch · 30/09/2025 17:46

I don't eat stuff I don't like. I am an adult and am not being forced to eat stuff I wont enjoy.

34ransum · 30/09/2025 17:47

Walnuts (so dry)
Avocado (though I quite like gaucamole)
Quinoa. Not awful, but so bland.

Incredibly healthy. Lots of people witter on about eating it full fat, but that has less protein and so I prefer the Fage Total 0% fat. For 100g, you get 10g protein and 54 calories. Plus live bacteria (not as good as kefir yoghurt but a lot better than supermarket own yoghurt).

For me I eat it for protein - 300g is my morning protein taken care of for breakfast. I have it on top of my porridge with flax and chia and banana. Bleugh to having it with berries though!

Try it on top of hot oats. It's delicious. I make oats with 30g oats, 20g each of flax and chia. Heat up. Add Greek yoghurt. Mm mm. It's like eating a hot creamy breakfast.

I've read a few things recently suggesting that the idea that everyone needs lots more protein has been overstated.
But who knows.
I usually eat sheep's yogurt. No idea what the protein levels are, or live bacteria levels actually. I presume both are good...?

I couldn't say. The idea of sheep's yoghurt makes me want to hurl! My SIL once gave me goats milk in tea and I've been suspicious of anything but cows milk since!

I think even if you think protein is overstated most people agree that you need protein and fibre to start the day to keep you full.

BettyTurpinPies · 30/09/2025 18:00

300g of protein sounds far too much @Sugarahhoneyhoney

I eat it because I am veggie and sometimes need a quick source of protein.
I don't suppose others need it.

MagicLoop · 30/09/2025 18:02

Nothing. There are very few foods I dislike, and there are plenty of foods I do like which are healthy!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 30/09/2025 18:05

Why would I eat something i dont like??

There are so many food options out there, I'm not going to martyr myself by eating food i find nasty.

TheRealMagic · 30/09/2025 18:05

Nothing. There are lots of foods that I like but don't eat (or eat a lot less of than I'd like) because they're bad for me, but no foods I eat solely because they're good for me!

I’m fairly sure it’s 300 g of youghuer not protein, she’d have to eat 3000 g of yoghurt for 300 g of protein 😂

Oh, we all absolutely need protein and fibre in the mornings; I definitely feel fuller for longer if I have a protein-rich breakfast.
I just mean there's been a lot of talk about protein being the be-all-and-end-all, an explosion into the food market of protein bars and drinks, eggs being marketed as 'protein bombs' etc. And a couple of people I know have been to nutritionists who told them they should be eating (grass-fed and organic, if you please) red meat several times a week to get enough protein. There's definitely been a bit of a counter-reaction to that recently.

I know what you mean about goat's milk! Sheep's is really mild, doesn't taste 'sheepy' the way goat's tastes 'goaty'. Cow's milk stuff seems to make my nose run, so I buy a very nice Greek-style sheep's yogurt and it's so mild and fresh, but really creamy.

300g of yoghurt which is 30g protein and 162 calories.

In which case, that sounds lovely. ☺️

Fruits full of sugar so if you would prefer to eat similarly coloured vegetables just stick with that or buy frozen and defrost as and when.

Come on now. Fruit is not bad for you.

clipboardz · 30/09/2025 18:10

blueberries

Pinklittlebird · 30/09/2025 18:10

All vegetables. Apart from carrots and potatoes.
