Chance of a general election next year and Reform winning?

1000 replies

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 21:50

They are winning in the polls it seems. I've been watching Nigel Farage's Instagram, he really just talks common sense. I find myself agreeing with a lot of what he says.
I'm definitely not far right and I'm not a leftie,
I think I'm somewhere in the middle.
But I am sick of Conservative and Labour and think it's time to give a new party a chance, especially if they are going to properly tackle illegal immigrants coming over and the ones that are already here.
I don't necessarily agree with his call to deport those with Indefinite leave to remain however.

Why would Labour call a general election next year?

MikeRafone · 25/09/2025 21:54

GE is due in 2029

why would Labour call an election next year?

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 25/09/2025 21:55

Do you agree with all the Reform policies or just the immigration ones? A Reform government would be a disaster for us all.
Thankfully Labour won't be calling a general election.

0% chance I’m afraid.

Pharazon · 25/09/2025 21:56

There are no scenarios whatsoever under which there would be a general election next year. There seems to have been an influx of, presumably foreign, posters suggesting this might happen but any British person would

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 21:57

I heard Farage say something about a general election next year potentially.
Labour could call one for various reasons including if they feel they are not popular and want to reaffirm their status according to Google.

@JohnWickAteMyHamster I don't actually know what their other policies are as it's constantly about immigration

mynameiscalypso · 25/09/2025 21:59

Why on earth would Labour call a general election? They have a big majority and, therefore, a mandate to govern. Farage can’t force them to call an election before the end of the Parliament (thank god; frequent elections are not a good thing).

EllatrixB · 25/09/2025 21:59

Sorry, "Labour could call one... if they feel they are not popular and want to reaffirm their status"? What do you mean? How would that work?

slightlyunimpressed · 25/09/2025 21:59

They could, but they know they’re not popular and will want to give it as long as possible hoping that things will improve and those improvements will be noticed. And to allow Reform to fall apart which is pretty likely.

LlamaNoDrama · 25/09/2025 22:00

No party is going to call a GE to 'reaffirm their status'

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 22:02

Everything seems to be at fever pitch right now and Reform are really going for it and gaining in popularity so I was surprised when I read that the next election could be as far as 2029. A lot can change and Reform may not be able to keep the momentum.
However if it was next year, then there's a good chance of them winning I think

Would you vote for them not knowing their other policies? Id have a read up if I were you, OP.

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 22:03

Also why is it always either Labour or Conservatives that win when all you hear is complaints about how the country is falling apart thanks to them. Why do other parties never win?

OP posts:
CheshireCat1 · 25/09/2025 22:04

There isn’t going to be a general election next year. Regarding Reform, be careful what you wish for, I couldn’t possibly vote for anyone who has stated that they will remove my rights.

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 22:05

@CheshireCat1 what rights would they remove? Genuine question as I don't know their other policies.

They don't get enough votes. Due to lack of funding, shit policies, unlikeable candidates, bad comms strategy, or a combination.

"Why do other parties never win"? Oh come on OP - surely you know how the electoral system works here?
The other parties don't get enough votes in our FPTP system to form a government.

RaspberryRipple2 · 25/09/2025 22:07

The governing party calls the election, typically a minimum of 4 years (if they expect to win another term) or a maximum of 5 (if they don’t). So 2028 if Labour expect to win or 2029 if they don’t. A ‘snap’ election is actually very rare and only happens in times of political turmoil - such as that caused by the post-brexit vote chaos.

You’re talking absolutely shit OP and so is anyone else who ‘expects’ a GE next year. I can’t even imagine the circumstances under which Labour would call an election they expect to lose to a party that is completely unable to govern the country. Under what circumstances do you actually think this would happen?

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 22:07

@slightlyunimpressed why would Reform fall apart when they seem to be the only party that want to end illegal immigration and get the country prospering again?

@CheshireCat1 what rights would they remove? Genuine question as I don't know their other policies.

The Human Rights Act 1998, the right to health, education, a fair trial, freedom of religion, a fair standard of living, the right to healthcare, they’re just a few.

cestlavielife · 25/09/2025 22:11

I am sure you can Google op and read the reform manifesto
But yeh the immigration thing is a red herring

If you use any public services..expect them to be cut or start paying for them. do you hVe kids at school or use a gp or want parks and roads?
If you believe climate change is a myth go reform
If you want lower tax and to lose all Public services go reform

There won’t be a GE next year, likely you heard Farage spouting about our election in Wales for the Senedd in May 2026. I know lots of people think it’s small fry but it’s huge for Wales and Reform are doing everything they can to get their claws into our country.

Confused78 · 25/09/2025 22:12

Ok well all the hype about Reform at the moment and the support they seem to have going by all the comments on Instagram and Twitter is pointless then, as they aren't going to win according to the replies here.
