Labour isn't working - Thread 10

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Starmer has already derided it yesterday. Can't remember his exact words, but something along the lines of "statistically it's a few disgruntled voters and the majority fully understand and back our plans" Cheeky barsteward!

Edited

It's not a small percentage. There are about 54 million adults in the UK. Even on that basis alone, about 1 in 25 people have signed it so far.

Which might not seem many but, when you realise how many people are completely disengaged in politics or watching the news (- for example, only 62% of people can name Kemi Badenoch and 37% of people Ed Davey),
then what you have is a far greater percentage of the cohort of people who watch the news, have the tech and the time and who are prepared to go through the rigmarole of signing a petition and validating it via email - even knowing that it won't change the governments mind at all.

There is no way that anyone with any political sense would feel like that wasn't a bad omen.

nearlylovemyusername · 28/09/2025 09:08

I'm rarely on these threads, but recognise familiar names and some of you will know that I'm not a Labour supporter at all. I do want them to go and never come back.

But - I'm really lost now. Next party in power is almost certain to be Reform. And I'm not voting for them ever.

What is your view guys? what is your choice between Labour and Reform? Tory don't have a chance to be considered as an alternative

Absentosaur · 28/09/2025 09:11

I just .. can’t… think… but these 3 definitely have something in common.

He, Labour and supporters did this on the 3m petition which really just showed discontent rather than a specific issue and then were shocked by local election results and reversed WFA.

That’s small fry to a state changing digital ID scheme. I do need a protest though, that’s how annoyed I am over this. I rarely go on those so yep I want to push back.

Upstartled · 28/09/2025 09:12

I've got a conservative MP who clings on in even the most dire MRP polls, so I don't have to choose really. But I'd vote for Reform over Labour @nearlylovemyusername

Yes, me too. I can't bear the thought of standing around in a crowd, being jostled by pissed off people and, more than likely, in crappy weather now but - yes- I would go too.

The sewage Labour swim is unbelieveable. Tony Blair at it again.

The Government was tonight embroiled in a cronyism row as it emerged Tony Blair secretly lobbied for his billionaire backer who could make millions of pounds from Labour's controversial digital ID cards.
Documents seen by The Mail on Sunday reveal the former prime minister urged Business Secretary Peter Kyle to consult a technology institute founded by his friend Larry Ellison in a private meeting last year.
Mr Ellison, the world's second richest man, has donated or pledged a staggering £257million for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

I genuinely think that this government term will mark the end of the Labour party.

Then something good would come from all this.

I was just looking at the election result in my constituency ....recent boundary changes aside its almost always been tory....it was a tory hold but only by 1000 votes. I am surprised. Labour came 2nd. Reform 3rd. I will vote to keep Labour out at next election.

No choice where I live. If you want to get Labour out, which I desperately do, then it will be a Reform vote. So I will be voting Reform.

twistyizzy · 28/09/2025 09:34

Starmer is now desperate, I really fear slash and burn policies

Yes, this is what I'm wondering about, especially looking at the i.d. cards and how it came from nowhere. If the Labour Party feels as hopeless as its figures looks then at what point do they take their parliamentary majority and just frogmarch through as many changes as they can in the window that remains knowing they are sunk anyway?

EmpressoftheMundane · 28/09/2025 09:43

I signed too.

I plan to vote Conservative. But, if it is a race between Labour and Reform in my constituency, then it is Reform.

TheNuthatch · 28/09/2025 09:58

Morning comrades 😁
Just catching up. I needed to unplug lastnight.

Welcome to the new names on the thread. We are growing 💪.

Just read the times article on Starmer's tax affairs. He could have kept the field and let his parents use it, he could have gifted them the field. Instead he put in into trust, knowing that it would avoid IHT when he became the beneficiary.

@upseedaisee Thanks for the Blair article. How dare they accuse the tories of cronyism when they have people like Blair and Mandelson squirrelling away in the background.

@twistyizzy and @Upstartled Agree with you both. I think we've reached the slash and burn point. God help us while we try and stay afloat.

@nearlylovemyusername Where I live, it will be Labour or Reform. I'm still a tory through and through, but I will hold my nose and vote Reform.

There is a story in the Sunday Times about “Questions for Starmer over field he put in trust” but it is quite far down on the app - perhaps it will be more prominent on the print version. There’s a fairly long interview with him which is on top.

Yes it's all over X
Seemingly when he gave a field to his parents, he used a "life interest trust". This meant that, as its value grew from £20k to £300k, it was outside their inheritance tax estate. He also failed to declare it initially.

Hang onto your hats ladies, Steve Reid being interviewed by Camilla Tominy. She asked about Keir Starmer's appalling popularity stats. Apparently Keir Starmer is so unpopular because the Tories allegedly ruined confidence in government! You can't make this stuff up!!

Fucking gaslighting twats the lot of them. Exactly same gaslighting as we constantly see from the cultists on here.

I appreciate people listening to this stuff so I don’t have to as I’m at the limit, but I laughed at how bad this is. The audacity and arrogance how is it possible

I feel politically homeless. I work in local government, and Reform seem to hate people like me. They paint us all as lazy, clueless wasters. We aren’t all the same - I promise!

I can’t stand Labour, and I’ve voted Conservative my whole life. But unless there’s a dramatic turnaround in their popularity, that will be a wasted vote.

I have children, and I’m really worried about what’s happening to the UK. Looking at the absolute shambles of the past year, and the prospect of Andy Burnham taking over as PM (which has already spooked the gilt markets eg due to proposals to borrow an extra £40bn for Council housing ), there’s no way I would ever want Labour getting in for a second term.

So my vote will go to Reform, but it feels like I will be a turkey voting for Christmas. Maybe I should start looking for another job now while I still have the chance. If I had the financial means, I’d seriously be looking at moving my family out of the UK.

I’m actually staggered by the level of spending, and they’ve only been in for just over a year. How much is this ID scheme going to cost? And we all know these projects always suffer major setbacks and go over budget.
