Labour isn't working - Thread 10

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I remember that other petition that got to 3m early on for Labour. It wasn’t going to do anything but it did show strength of feeling. Labour and their supporters did the usual and said nothing to see then the local elections put the scaries on them and they panicked. WFA reversed.

So strong feelings do cause politicians to panic over jobs and votes are the way to do it, petitions can be a litmus test.

Except they seem to want to roll this out in two years.
So enough time before the next GE to perhaps be lost amongst the campaigning

Its being sited as mandatory
Aparently Labour thinks the only problem will be those who don’t have and can’t use smartphones 🤣🤣😆🤣so they’re going to do classes to help people.

I absolutely detest all forms of tracking and any of my personal info being online. Even worse if it’s all online in one neatly packaged space
The LibDems for once have got it right

I do agree small kids fasting (including water) over Ramadan, is ridiculous. As is building the imposing mosques everywhere. That btw (construction of huge imposing mosques), is one part of Islam to be rewarded.

‘In Islam, the reward for building a mosque is the promise of a house in Paradise (Jannah), a form of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) with continuous rewards. This reward is mentioned in the hadith,a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise".

Edited

Small kids don’t fast over Ramadan
Typically they start at 14/puberty

but kids taking exams can request exemption aswell

They do where I’ve lived, in the ME and parts of the uk. Aged 8 and above seemed to be the cut off.

Yes, my ds had a friend in y6 who was fasting for Ramadan. He had to bow out mid-way through when he had a wobble at school - but there was no pressure for him to continue - he just ate regularly after that.

Yes, clearly he didn't get the memo on boiling the frog by inches.

Jones, who is the PM's chief secretary, said: "If we get this digital ID system working and the public being with us, that will be the bedrock of the modern state and will allow for really quite exciting public service reform in the future."

What 'exciting public service reform" exactly??

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

The level of corruption that's coming out about Labour seems unprecedented.

Surely the ID card policy can't go through. Trust in the government is so much lower than it was when Blair tried it - and even in those more optimistic times it was seen as too dangerous.

No manifesto pledge for this btw

I knew immigration issues would end up prompting more state control. Over citizens instead.

🙄
I hope all those teachers who advocated and voted for Labour are happy with it. I'm sure they're thrilled.

In their 2019 manifesto, they were scrapping SATS. This is insanity.

Anything they didn't put in their manifesto appears to be fair game. They couldn't care less what they do and don't have a mandate for.
See WFA, farmer's tax, NI increase etc. Now digital ID. We should start calling them the CCP. We are all just plebs who don't know what's good for us.

They’re really setting up manifestos meaning less than they did and the black hole thing. The next gov will do the same.

Looks like Darren Pocket Money Jones is gearing up to have another stab at the welfare bill soon. Hopefully this time he can manage it without offending the recipients for good measure.

TheNuthatch · 26/09/2025 20:21

@EasternStandard I keep thinking back today to some of your posts pre election, written across various threads.
I remember you warming adamantly that if Labour won the election, it would make a Reform government more likely in 2029. How right you were.

That name is very apt for him.
Are they even capable of introducing policy without offending and shitting on people from a great height? I've yet to witness it if so. They thrive off division and spite. Keeps them warm at night.

My god the abuse! I think back here’s what I thought pre GE
a bad idea to vote in a higher spending party when there wasn’t much money
anti growth policies would lower tax receipts
nom dom thing was a bad idea (since changed)
smash the gangs would see Reform go up and likely cause social and political strain (look at protests)
migration issues would lead to the need for more control to stop unrest - ID system it is

I think where we are is exactly that. One thing that I hadn’t thought of was the ‘one in one out’ and whether Macron will take enough people to help Starmer. If he’s relying on that and it helps then it’s more about economics which are shaky.

This is what makes me laugh when someone posts that bloody left wing pledge tracker. Labour didn't put any of their actual plans in the manifesto 😂.

Oh man, the sherry is the drink of last resort in this house, I think it's in the laundry cupboard behind the neglected hand wash detergent, collecting dust - primed for a Christmas emergency.

We've all got one of those I think haven't we. Bought for a trifle recipe 15 years ago, never to see daylight again 😂

Off topic, but do any of you have an Ocado delivery booked for tomorrow?

I've reserved my slot with 3 bottles of gin, and the website won't let me edit my order. I've been trying for ages. I can't even cancel it.
