A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I do agree small kids fasting (including water) over Ramadan, is ridiculous. As is building the imposing mosques everywhere. That btw (construction of huge imposing mosques), is one part of Islam to be rewarded.

‘In Islam, the reward for building a mosque is the promise of a house in Paradise (Jannah), a form of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) with continuous rewards. This reward is mentioned in the hadith,a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise".

The racism card is used so often, and so inappropriately, to have lost all meaning in many cases.

People are worn down with the victimisation and the gas-lighting.

I also see a significant number of people appear to have simply given up. The social contract has been shattered.

Saw this on another thread that’s popped up today (I think, didn’t check). Never seen this manifesto before, haven’t looked.

Yep they've got independent schools in there 😊 They are right, giving tax relief is what many European countries to in order to encourage more parents to use independent schools and thereby relieve burden on state

@Pearlyjam the threat is real and yes the social contract is broken
Sadiq khan and his deputy are a total disgrace

Absentosaur · 26/09/2025 16:21

I suppose the more Councils run by Reform, the more local people will see how they perform.. Do Reform Perform (🤢)? In a few years time - we’ll have information on that. A bit like the Greens winning Brighton. Total shit show for a few years. Now Labour again. Potentially the same will happen with Reform - but they’d go back mainly, to the Conservatives.

Upstartled · 26/09/2025 16:29

I'm not sure council performance gets much of an airing at the national level, look at the number of Labour councils on their arse, going bankrupt, in the middle of bin disputes and they still got a healthy majority last year against that backdrop. I think if Reform do well at the Senedd elections and then fail to make an impact, then that might cut through.

🤷‍♀️ Same electorate.

Upstartled · 26/09/2025 16:35

I'm not sure I understand the point/ question. Do you mean, did the people with those crappy Labour councils also return a Labour MP? Yes - look at Birmingham

Yep, you'd definitely get a waitrose. You may also get me as a neighbour 😂

Hi all!

Those potential Labour losses are staggering

We are a Conservative area.
Before we moved we lived in that first UKIP seat ( 2014) held by aptly named Mark Reckless
Think that’s gone Labour now after many years of being Conservative.
Can’t see that holding despite all the new housing which does tend to change the demographics

Ps. Bought that sheep. How did your gimmer sale go @derxa

No I mean the general electorate who vote in general elections. Some of that electorate would have / have had (by x point) Reform managed local councils. How those councils are managed by Reform, will directly impact on the locals (from those areas), voting intention in a general election. For example- I believe that no one in their right mind from Brighton, would ever vote for a green candidate in a GE, following their colossal failure as a council.

CruCru · 26/09/2025 17:02

I’ve been giving some thought to digital IDs. I suspect that the general population will end up indifferent or slightly positive on this issue - the pushback will come from the MPs themselves.

Am I too hopeful in thinking that there hasn't been much public debate on this for some time and people, who are typically agreeable, would be happy to nod it through when thinking only of the practical day to day implications but might think twice once they were presented with the wider risks and implications?

I remember that other petition that got to 3m early on for Labour. It wasn’t going to do anything but it did show strength of feeling. Labour and their supporters did the usual and said nothing to see then the local elections put the scaries on them and they panicked. WFA reversed.

So strong feelings do cause politicians to panic over jobs and votes are the way to do it, petitions can be a litmus test.

I agree with this

Reform may turn out to be no worse at the local level than Tory, Labour, Green, Independent etc controlled councils.

But the party’s councillors may turn out to be hopeless representatives and administrators. If that’s true and people know it, it will have a significant effect on GE voting.

We’ll see.

I think I may have just read possibly the biggest validation for all our concerns regarding mandatory digital ID.
Darren Jones has said it could be: "the bedrock of the modern state". If that doesn't scare us all pooless, I don't know what will.

Oh @twistyizzy I'm joining you, crisps, wine and a SM detox.
