Labour isn't working - Thread 10

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Just read on Sky that Lib Dems, Reform and the Greens have all given a firm no to digital ID. I'm almost certain that Corbyn will also be heavily against. Some Labour MPs also coming out against.
Kemi Badenoch criticising it as a deflection tactic, but she didn't rule it out either. Slightly disappointed in her response tbh. I hope she firms that up.

It totally is a deflection tactic.

With this, he gets 3 years or so whilst the system is being developed - maybe even until the next election is safely past, given that it will take a year to get it through parliament before they start writing it - without having to actually do anything about immigration. Any time it's mentioned, he'll say that the ID system will solve everything once it arrives...

Whereas we all know that it will cost billions, reduce our freedoms, put our data at risk from criminals, and do precisely nothing to stop illegal work and immigration.

Because the criminals will always have more financial incentive to circumvent the rules than the government have to keep it watertight.

It's completely predictable.

Unconfirmed reports that Labour have their next Chancellor, lined up…

“…There’s loads and loads of ways. And so people should not be scared that (slavery) reparations (of GBP 18.6 trillion) would bankrupt Britain…”
Lenny Henry.

Comedy gold.

🤣

twistyizzy · 25/09/2025 20:53

So has the ID cards been a useful distraction from the fundraising/donation scandal.....???

Agree.

Starmer is a monumentally stupid man, masquerading as a clever one, and doubtless believes that most of us cannot see through his latest ruse (read Baldrick-style cunning plan).

Well, we see this one coming a mile away.

I think the shit will hit the fan with that when that book is released.
I'm sure Starmer will be hoping this will distract from Burnham.

Agree with all of that, spot on.

I just want to hear an unequivocal no to ID from the tories. She didn't provide it. I don't feel that she read the room well in her initial response. The other parties did. Her instincts were off imo. Hopefully she'll toughen her stance in the coming days.

She as in Badenoch

I don't understand how ID cards will stop illegal immigration.

It's not like we don't know who the illegal immigrants are, it's what to do with them that's the mystery.

Off topic, this is our Rodney - so called because he really is a complete plonker.

Hot topic on Question Time right now. (Nandy makes me want to hurl the remote at the screen.😬)

Perhaps if they were made of a heavy plastic we could fashion a sharp corner at one end and frantically pop any type of floatation device we find on our holidays in France?

Upstartled · 25/09/2025 21:24

Seriously, though? No clue. It's just the new carrier oil for easing it in. Blair tried it with tax avoidance first, iirc, and then switched to anti-terrorism after 9/11.

Does he often chill on top of the bog? 😂

Yep, any excuse they can find, they'll try. They will try to convince us that is will stop illegal working. Obviously that is total horse shit as we've discussed on the thread previously. Employers who hire illegal workers know full well that they are illegal, and do it off the books. No ID will stop that.

There’s a petition not sure if I can link. Around 350k signatures. I’ve signed. I know they do bugger all but still. It’s searchable under

Petition
Do not introduce Digital ID cards

Yes! I bought DH one of those multi-tools shaped like a credit card. It has a screwdriver and everything.

Yep, the minute one of us switches on a shower he's there, parked on top, watching. Then he wants to play with the towel when you're trying to get dry.🙄
He's a total loon.😅

Wonder if Larry at no10 will insist on a black mark on your IDs

Gorgeous cat!

Just watching the news…Andy Burnam- what a tit! He’s fluttering his eyelashes and telling us that Labour party members are asking him to step to leadership. Not that he’s personally ambitious 🙄. He seems to have no burning vision, no agenda, it would just be fun to be in charge and he reckons he’s worthy. 🤮

As a non-partisan comment, politicians really are the living end, all of them. The ambition, urge to control and power-hunger they all have…

That’s a large part of what makes me conservative by nature: at least conservative instincts are to be suspicious of puffed up authoritarians and ideologically driven control freaks, even if we breed some of our own.

Burnham was no great shakes in government. He’s just playing the Labour system. A completely useless lightweight who will say and do anything for a bigger political job and a say over people’s lives.
