Things you didn't expect to like, but do

I really, really did not expect to like the Stacey & Joe TV show.
But I do 🤷‍♀️
Their whole set up is just lovely - extended and step family are just one big family
It's just an easy watch, very wholesome.

Tricky one, I’m sure there’s actually loads of things. But what comes to mind:

Taylor Swift - thought I didn’t like her music until the other year when Spotify told me she was my most listened to artist?! 🤣

Palma - really lovely city! Wasn’t expecting it.

Blackpool. I was expecting the worse kind of tacky poverty-stricken dreary North Sea depressing shit hole but it was actually some of the best fun I’ve had. And great fish and chips!

Blackpool is on the Irish Sea. The front looks quite clean until you get to the run down and empty hotels and further into the town it definitely looks poverty-stricken.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 24/09/2025 09:38

All inclusive. It was Dh’s choice.
I went along with it thinking we will just keep ourselves to ourselves. Never met so many friendly, likeminded people. It was a lovely holiday.

When were you there? 1930s 1950s?
It has gone down a lot since, we were there about 12 months ago. We thought it foul and horrible.

The school run. I thought it would be tedious but there are some really nice parents in my child's class and I look forward to chatting with them for a few minutes.

Yes I second this actually. It's taken me a while to get into the rhythm of it, but now I like that I can have a chat to a couple mum's who just seem really chill and down to earth. But also how my DS will play after school in the playground/park and it's nice to get some fresh air that I wouldn't otherwise be getting.

Reformer Pilates. I've always been into aerobics and yoga but found mat Pilates incredibly dull. Then DD got me into Reformer. I love it. I'm in my 60s and aiming for a six pack.

I've been watching a bit of trashy TV while getting ready for work in the mornings and finding myself getting drawn in to Married at First Sight!

Also LOVE watching Gogglebox - I used to turn my nose up at the idea of watching other people watching TV, but it's bloody hilarious!

Cruises.

I thought I would be claustrophobic, probably come down with norovirus, be surrounded by pretentious people and have intrusive thoughts about the Titanic 😂.

We actually had the best flipping holiday we've ever had as a family.

Intrusive thoughts about the Titanic 😂🤭

Fun fact: They never show that film at sea. So at least you weren't in any danger of seeing it in the ship's cinema!

Mumsnet

Yes! Avoided Mumsnet for years, even though it was top result for many of my Googles 😂

Been addicted since day 1 and only wish it had been around when I was making all my own mistakes with relationships 🫠

Hah I thought the opposite about Stacey and Joe, loved them on instagram and love her stuff but the show made me realise how awful he is!

Mine would be Jane Austen, and paneer (not together)

Try making paneer at home. It can be made so soft and crumbly, you will want to eat as-is.
Boil some milk in a pot on low-medium heat. When it starts to boil over, add lemon juice, and turn down the heat. I usually give a few good shakes of the lemon juice concentrate bottle. The paneer and water starts to separate. If its not separating quickly enough, I just add a bit more lemon juice. Stir gently and the paneer starts to collect in bigger blobs. When fully separated ie the water is clear, then drain through some cheesecloth or muslin. Squeeze out as much water as you can. Stick in the fridge to use, when you've drained enough

Sunny beach in Bulgaria. Admittedly it was several years ago, near the end of the season and my going out days were behind me but I loved it! We stayed in a lovely hotel, ate, trotted around the stalls and sat in the sun for a week.

Euro Disney. I thought I'd be overwhelmed and not buy into all the merch. My DS was a young child and we laughed for 3 days straight, wore Mickey and Minnie ears, went to the parades, shows and I bought huge toys.

AndrinaAdamosballetshoes · 24/09/2025 10:20

New build house, viewed a show home recently expecting it to be a boxy rabbit hunch as that’s what Mumsnet says 😀 but it was dreamy! So big and spacious and well designed, loved it!

I so would like to try this as it would be good for my gut. Just need to bite the bullet and try it. Did buy some from M&S not their brand and it sat in my fridge till I threw it out.

Perhaps try it with something you already like. I like it with scrambled eggs or with a pad Thai. Hope you enjoy it!

Mallorca.
We booked a holiday there when our children were small just because we wanted somewhere warm with a short flight but I expected to hate it. But I couldn't have been more wrong. It's an absolutely beautiful island and it's very easy to avoid the Magalluf type places if that's not what you're into. It's actually one of the very few holiday destinations I've been to more than once.

@MrsAvocet I love Mallorca hate Palma Airport but love Mallorca its a gorgeous place.

Stay by Shakespeare's Sister. That song was everything the cool young me despised about music, but 30-odd years on and I realize it is absolute genius.

They do! I had it on the Liverpool to Ireland boat!

Blackpool is on the West, it's not on the North Sea coast.
