Does anyone else LOVE winter?

I’m so excited the nights are drawing in. I love winter. I love it getting dark early. šŸŒ™ Love candles šŸ•Æļø and the fire on. šŸ”„ I love the orange leaves on the ground.

For me also I’m less busy at work. It’s my husbands birthday and mine and my adult kids too. We go away on holiday in winter.

And of course there’s Christmas…..šŸŽ…

YES! So much. Cosy warm evenings by the fire and thick tights and jumpers! Bliss.

OnionBag · 23/09/2025 17:55

Yes I love it too. Lots of cups of teas and chats indoors in the warmth. Halloween, Christmas, love it all!

Coldiron · 23/09/2025 18:07

Yes, I much prefer all my winter clothes too

fastingforweightloss · 23/09/2025 18:08

Ooh I’m glad it’s not just me! I love that it’s dark at 730pm. Yes!! šŸ™Œ

I've got a horrible cold 😭😭

But I STILL love winter - i'm still at my happiest even though i keep on sneezing

GlowWorm13 · 23/09/2025 18:08

Yes I love winter. I was really cross last Friday when summer showed up again for the day 🤣 I want the cold, the dark and cosy nights in front of the tv.

fastingforweightloss · 23/09/2025 18:09

I’ve had the fire on this week and the candles šŸ•Æļø

Nope.

This time of year is OK. November and December can fuck off. January better as the light is coming back.

Smartiepants79 · 23/09/2025 18:10

I don’t LOVE it but I always like the different seasons. I have to say this year though I’m not really feeling it and kind of dreading the short days and getting up in the cold. I really want it to just be summer for longer this year.

fastingforweightloss · 23/09/2025 18:10

I live getting up when it’s dark too. December is glorious!!

I don't like plodding to work through horizontal rain and so windy that umbrellas are useless. I don't like walking like a ninety year old to avoid slipping on wet leaves. I don't like painful joints caused by cold and damp. However I like the candles, winter cooking and Christmas.

Yes i love it.
Storms rougher the better wind rain fog frost bitter cold days dark gloomy day.
Just all the weather MN hates.

Oh I love the hibernation mode! Autumn is my favourite though, the colours and changes in nature. Getting builders out soon to open up our fireplace so no doubt it’ll be lit every night, nothing nicer!

IfNot · 23/09/2025 18:29

… it’s Autumn! Halloween, also Autumn!

Me too! Short days. Long nights. Stepping outside to a starry sky early in the morning. Weather that is biting and cold and clean and makes the skin tingle. Weather that makes me feel alive and energised instead of drained and apathetic.

Summer started in spring and included four heatwaves and went on and on and on. August seemed to never end. I hope autumn and winter go on for as long

I hate cold weather. 😭

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year get me through the first few weeks of winter then I do a winter sun holiday to cut January down by a couple of weeks.

In an ideal world, I’d be in the Southern hemisphere October to March every year.

Meadowfinch · 23/09/2025 18:40

No.

I had to scrape ice off the car this morning. I'm busy unpacking sweaters, fleeces and socks.

I was hoping for an Indian summer, but looks like we won't be getting that. Instead I'm looking out recipes for curries, soups and casseroles. Making jams and pickles before the night chill ruins the last of my garden produce. This weekend I'll collect greengages, sloes and hazel nuts to make liqueurs. The chimney sweep is booked and the log shed is full.

It's so depressing, knowing it won't be warm outside again for 6 months. 😩

MagicLoop · 23/09/2025 18:42

No. I really like Christmas and I like a bit of snow (briefly), but I absolutely do not like the months of rain and both leaving for work and driving home in the dark. The leaves stay orange for about 5 minutes (in autumn, not winter) and are soon brown sludge on the ground. I like spring and early autumn.

Bippybop · 23/09/2025 18:43

I also have a skin problem that is worse in the heat or sun.
So in summer when people are settling in for the night my days begin.
In winter time i feel normal.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 23/09/2025 18:45

It's awful. Depressing and cold and dark.
I am absolutely dreading the next 5 months.

Andnowshesapreschooler · 23/09/2025 18:50

I definitely feel privileged that I can love autumn and winter because I can afford the heating the comforting hot chocolate with no problems this hasn't always been the case for me. Absolutely love getting snuggly in woolies.

Bimblebombles · 23/09/2025 18:50

I like that sweet spot where it gets dark around mid-evening and the sun comes up around the natural time I'm getting up. Makes me feel like I'm in sync with the rhythms of the earth!

What I don't like is having to stumble around in the dark getting lamps on when I get up and it being dark at 5pm.

If only it were limited to 5 months. March is often freezing and most years April is too cold to be outside for long.
