Tommy Robinson, Hitler and wooden crosses

Tommy Robinson is having his 'Festival of Free Speech' in London tomorrow.

I'm also seeing attempts on social media to rehabilitate his image as a 'concerned citizen' and pleas from him to keep things civil, not wear masks and not drink alcohol. Jolly good.

So let's be clear that he has also posted an image promoting his 'free speech festival' standing with Ant Middleton next to a bus, number 88. The far right will be well aware of the use of the number 88 to denote 'Heil Hitler' where H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. This is not an accident.

He has also posted on social media that he is planning to bring a large number of wooden crosses to his 'free speech festival'. This would appear to be an odd choice for a free speech festival but makes more sense if you want to bang on about how England is a Christian Country and Muslims are Not Welcome.

Either way, he is trying to appeal to a wider crowd while at the same time signalling to his racist contingent that it's business as usual.

I'm absolutely not a fan of the man, and come from family that suffered alot at the hands of fascists, but even I can see the 88 bus claim is a bit of a stretch.

tripleginandtonic · 12/09/2025 16:40

But why choose that bus no over all the others? He definitely knows the connotations

Far right Tommy Robinson just happened to have his photo taken with a white supremacist dog whistle?

What do you think the wooden crosses are for? Possible vampire attack?

Oh my sweet summer child.

Yaxley-Lennon and his pal had thousands of locations to choose from. They just happened to choose the route of the 88 (one of 675 bus routes in London) and just happened to have a photo taken as the 88 bus was passing.

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2025 17:00

In all seriousness what are they going to do with all those crosses?

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2025 17:21

I'm also confused by Tommy Robinson calling for someone to lose their job because of something they said.

Is he in favour of free speech or not?

It absolutely is not a stretch. You think that of all the buses in London (and I went on a fair few with the tube strike earlier this week; there are a lot), he just so happened to be in front of the one with the Nazi dog whistle on it?

DrAmanitaPhalloides · 12/09/2025 17:31

Do they think those crosses are going to offend Muslims?! Cos they are not. Jesus/Isa is a respected prophet for Muslims.

Yaxley-Lennon is a twat.

Lottapianos · 12/09/2025 17:51

'Yaxley-Lennon is a twat'

He certainly is. I watched a bit of his interview on Triggernometry recently. What an unbelievably boring man he is. It was an account of being involved in just about every ruck and scrap in Luton over the past 25 years, according to himself. Both nasty and mind numbing at the same time

Those wooden crosses and the photo with Ant Middleton just look unhinged

Mikart · 12/09/2025 17:55

He is an utter wanker.
Let's see what mayhem ensues tomorrow.

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2025 18:00

I'm kind of wishing I'd put a poll on this thread.

Do you think Tommy Robinson accidentally had his photo taken with a Nazi dogwhistle or was it deliberate?

Because I did think the answer was obvious.

Wooden crosses will be handy if there's any rough stuff. Which Tommy and his mates never start of course. When was the last time they darkened a church door I wonder? Such brave lads ; perhaps they could volunteer to help Palestinian Christians .

CaroleLandis · 12/09/2025 18:04

Absolute nonsense.

Pedallleur · 12/09/2025 18:05

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2025 17:00

In all seriousness what are they going to do with all those crosses?

The KKK used burning crosses when lynching and terrifying the enslaved or emancipated afro Caribbean population of Southern USA.

Please elaborate?

Indeed.

I am aware of the symbolism. That's what I ask for. Has he said?

Don't drag poor Cliff Richard into this ! Although he is a good Christian I don't think he's up for a riot.

No not at all numbers have a significant meaning within the extreme far right,C18 ,Adolf Hitler,28 blood and honour motto of the Nazi brown shirts+extremist white power music and nazi ideology magazine, column 88 ,heil Hitler.. and that's just the ones I can remember.

LeavesOnTheLines · 12/09/2025 18:32

Tommy Robinson is a very strange Nazi, what with being a Zionist and partly funded by pro-Israel organisations 🤔

I'm no Tommy Robinson fan or hater. He seems like an alright bloke but he's not a Nazi. He's a self-styled Zionist and a known supporter of Israel and has been for years. He founded the English Defence League which was originally registered as the Jewish Defence League and he has been photographed wearing the Israeli flag on multiple occasions. Calling him a Nazi is quite the a stretch!

Considering the killer of Charlie Kirk inscribed anti-fascist messages on bullets, maybe it's time we reconsider labelling everyone conservative, vaguely right wing or people away disagree with Nazi. It seems to have lost its meaning.
The bus thing is a coincidence.

The Internet is making people already prone to conspiracy theories and seeing secret messages in things go bonkers. Re the crosses we're a culturally Christian country built on Christianity even if no one attends church anymore, there are already churches and crosses everywhere you probably walk past a few to and from work and you've survived so far! He said he likes Sikhs so I'm sure there will be a variety of people from different ethnicities and religious backgrounds.

My suspicious is that he's doing what he does because he makes money out of it and enjoys the celeb status. He asked fans to donate £27,000 for a Maori Haka at his event tomorrow and gave one reason for including them being that they are anti-Muslim. I don't want Britain to become Islamic for one reason that I find the religion sexist, but Maori have high domestic violence rates so that seems like an odd choice. But maybe it's like a Britain's Got Talent situation. I'm not even sure what the 13th event is about?? The Telegraph said something about it being for "Football Lads"...? Football lads and Maori...?

ScholesPanda · 12/09/2025 18:36

I wonder how many of them are regular Church goers? Probably a bit woke, what with the helping people and loving thy neighbour.

All about the vibes I guess.

And I'm in no way shocked that free speech means that they can speak without any criticism or challenge, whilst anyone who disagreed shuts up or else.
