Tommy Robinson, Hitler and wooden crosses

Tommy Robinson is having his 'Festival of Free Speech' in London tomorrow.

I'm also seeing attempts on social media to rehabilitate his image as a 'concerned citizen' and pleas from him to keep things civil, not wear masks and not drink alcohol. Jolly good.

So let's be clear that he has also posted an image promoting his 'free speech festival' standing with Ant Middleton next to a bus, number 88. The far right will be well aware of the use of the number 88 to denote 'Heil Hitler' where H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. This is not an accident.

He has also posted on social media that he is planning to bring a large number of wooden crosses to his 'free speech festival'. This would appear to be an odd choice for a free speech festival but makes more sense if you want to bang on about how England is a Christian Country and Muslims are Not Welcome.

Either way, he is trying to appeal to a wider crowd while at the same time signalling to his racist contingent that it's business as usual.

Another quote for anyone who thinks this march is in any way celebrating "freedom" of any kind

Other speakers included New Zealand Christian fundamentalist Brian Tamaki, who told the crowd: 'Christianity versus the rest. Islam, Hinduism, Bahai, Buddhism, whatever else you're into — they're all false. We gotta clean our countries up.
'Ban any type of public expression in our Christian nation from other religions. Ban halal. Ban burqas. Ban mosques, temples, shrines. We don't want those in our countries.'

Ridiculous, really

I don’t think they even know.

To drink beers and scream and yell

It’s infuriating to see wooden crosses - symbols of a faith that preaches love, and compassion - wielded as props. These idiots are parading Christianity as a costume to give their march a righteous and moral veneer, when in reality, their actions are about division and anger. It’s insulting to the faith, to actual Christians, and to anyone with a shred of integrity.

Weaponising symbols they don’t live by (weddings, funerals and Christenings really don’t count) is ironic. If they actually went to church and lived as Christians they wouldn’t be on the bloody march in the first place.

And yet, the most maddening part isn’t just the insult—it’s the ridiculousness of it all! Trying to mimic Jihadi theatrics as if brandishing a cross will somehow make them look scarier is just embarrassing.

Yeah, and none of them even give two hoots about jesus or his teachings. Just using there crosses as a way to waffle and spout more crap.

@Uricon2 I'm just starting to read the thread and you asked British Jews are few and well integrated for be a target ,most of the time

Can I remind or let you know that anti Jewish feeling reached it's zenith when Jeremy Corbyn had his time in the sun and I remember feeling deeply ashamed that Jewish faith leaders ( spelling )were writing public letters and in the media begging us not to vote in the far left because they felt : fear
And Jewish people had been attacked and called at the streets

Itcantbetrue · 14/09/2025 07:30

@Uricon2 but some women are living in Gilead in a multi tier society to protect other cultures and traditions .
This is the irony ?

Fizbosshoes · 14/09/2025 08:09

I was in another room but heard DH watching thr news, and they mentioned the March
"It ended in violence...." not really news then, who thought there was any other objective?

But its really concerning and scary how many people are sympathising and supporting right wing ideology, both here and in Europe and the US. 5 or 10 years ago if TR had organised a march , he might have got some support from neanderthal football hooligans but not a crowd of 100k!

I'm fully aware of the failings of the Left at that time and the climate that British Jews have to tolerate far too often is utterly unacceptable. I know about the security synagogues and Jewish schools are forced to adopt. I'd never say for one moment that anti semitism has gone away in the UK or anywhere else, and believe that SYL and his followers still have all the old hatreds towards Jews and black people because they are steeped in it. Their view of what makes a Briton is very narrow.

The fact is that at the moment the "official" target of SYL and his movement is Muslims/new migrants. His isn't vocally attacking British Jews or calling for attacks on them and is cynically aligning himself as a Zionist. This doesn't mean harm aimed at British Jews has or will stop, sadly, and I did find it telling that yesterday one of his speakers (Brian Tamaki) was basically calling for all religions other than Christianity to be shut down.

Itcantbetrue · 14/09/2025 09:02

@Uricon2

Great its just you said that British Jews were few and not a target. I have no idea what you do or don't know .

They were very much a target to the point of rabbis writing letters in the press begging the population not to let the far left in.

I'm sorry for my lack of clarity, my fault and I didn't mean to diminish the real issues British Jews face. I should have been clearer that I meant they are not the group YSL and his movement are officially focusing on (although I'm sure there is a lot of overlap between his supporters and attacks on the Jewish community) I sincerely wish they weren't a target for anyone.

What about Druids?

And Celtic Pagans?

Bit difficult to ban them under a British / English Homeland banner.

StewkeyBlue · 14/09/2025 09:31

The crosses are presumably to denote the Crusade.
The anti-Islamic Crusades.
Famous for their noble humanity.
Not.

In the interest of good faith and fair debate

Met police figures last night were

110,000 attendees

25 arrests

police officer injuries - not sure of number

Football fans are wanting nothing to do with this. Right wing thugs may also attend some football matches, but this movement is not coming from football.

No, im not saying it is. my post says 5-10 years ago football hooligans (who i accept are not the majority of football fans) might have been the ones on Tommy Robinson marches, compared to the the huge crowds yesterday

Spittykityy · 15/09/2025 11:09

I'm an ex Lutonian. I am no fan of Mr Yaxley Lennon. I grew up knowing the real Tommy Robinson and his brothers and cousins. I'm also Jewish. Mr Yaxley Lennon is many things and most of them unpleasant but absolutely he isn't racist. He has friends of Sikh Hindu black and even Muslim origin. In it's day the EDL had Jewish and Hindu Divisions, Sikh division too. He has gone on record as saying one of his Sikh mates has done more than he has.and better too. Did you also note the black man in Union Lack suit hat and glasses marching with the Unite the Kingdom cohort?

Spittykityy · 15/09/2025 11:15

LeavesOnTheLines · 12/09/2025 18:41

Some Jewish organisations are funding him. He’s been invited to and has visited Israel. You can pretend he hates Jews and Jews hate him if you like but it’s completely untrue.

He doesn't hate Jews. Years ago I was doing a Stop the War stall in Luton and he passed by and upended our table and hurled abuse at us. I asked him then of I was welcome as a Jewish woman in the UK and he burst out laughing and said the EDL don't hate Jews and never had. They had their own Jewish Division. I absolutely loathe the man but I never saw and racism. He briefly joined the BNP but left after being told at a meeting that a Black and Sikh friend he had with him would have to go away. He's also pro Zionist and pro gay marriage.

LlttledrummergirI · 15/09/2025 11:18

Tommy 10 names a good guy! Ffs how gullible do you think we are?

Yeah right. These are my principles and if you don't like them ; I have others.

During his election campaign Trump was often pictured with Black and Asian people. Where are they now? Tommy is like any other manipulative con artist. He wants to be liked. You can be on his side , provided you know your place.

@LlttledrummergirI but then a lot of men dont want to have kids and marry a girl who has been with a lot of men, this is another reason for low birthrates

Does your wife know of/share your views about women?

Did You actually read the posts? Neither of them said he was a good guy. What did you find from upending the table that would paint him as a good guy?!

noblegiraffe · 23/09/2025 18:20

Just in case anyone was in any doubt about Tommy Robinson and the 88 bus picture, he has deliberately posted it again, having been told the last time he posted it about the nazi dogwhistle. It's definitely no accident.
