Booneymil · 10/09/2025 23:20

The last thread was taken down because of personal insults towards the man.

We should be able to have a thread about this news topic.

Report any insulting posts. Mumsnet can you please just delete the offending posts, instead of deleting the whole thread?

Thank you.

Charlie Kirk has died today. He was shot at a public talk that he was giving.

It will be interesting to see if this thread lasts the night.

My concern is how much further the USA can be pushed towards to edge of the two sides in this coming together with a massive bang.

It's so incredibly sad.
My heart goes out to his wife and children.
He did nothing more than say things people didnt like.

You think that it’s not a tragedy on a larger scale because now there’s one less trump supporter? What the actual fuck

I don't support Trump but I know some really lovely people who do support Trump.

We should all have the freedom to choose

I felt genuinely sad when saw this on the news earlier. I have watched countless YouTube clips of him and although I can see why he’d rub some people up the wrong way, underneath it all he just seemed your stereotypical “American Man” who loved God, his wife and his children and who wanted people (especially women) to be safe and respected.

I feel sad for his children and for the fact that just because someone disagreed with his view points they now have to grow up without their father.

The whole thing is tragic.

Financial · 10/09/2025 23:33

He was much younger than I thought he was.

Agree.

Booneymil · 10/09/2025 23:35

I wonder why whoever did it decided to shoot him.

There are people who are much more powerful than him, who havent been shot at.

He was just a guy that went round college campuses.

I'm absolutely devastated by this. He was an incredible man and achieved so much in such a short time.

Glad I didn't see the previous thread. Murdering someone for their political beliefs is just beyond words. And all those poor people who were forced to watch something so brutal.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 10/09/2025 23:37

I disagreed with him on a lot and agreed with him on some things.

either way he was always interesting to listen to.

democracy is damaged by this.

AyeDeadOn · 10/09/2025 23:38

Anyone who thinks theyre making some clever point by saying he supported the right to bear arms so somehow is in any way more deserving of being assassinated because he said things people disagree with, is either a total idiot or being completely disingenuous.

NervyWegovy · 10/09/2025 23:38

In no way do I think he should have been killed for his opinions, that being said if it were possible to do so I would be intrigued to know if he would still hold the same belief that the second amendment is more important than his

Again I don't think its right he was killed but I do sometimes think that some people hold set opinions thinking it will never affect them.

I hope his family are able to grieve as freely and privately as needed

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 10/09/2025 23:38

It's sad and tragic no matter what anyone believes or doesn't believe.

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/09/2025 23:38

He was just a guy that went round college campuses.

Spreading the message that gun ownership was necessary, despite the cost to society and individuals.

How is anyone safer with more guns and less restrictions?

That's what this guy advocated for. The irony is he was killed by the very thing he was such a huge proponent for.

It's terrible what happened to him but let's not pretend he was a saint or even just a 'normal family guy'.

No. Every death is a tragedy

Agree. His views were frustrating, but this is never the answer.

Vodkamartini3olives · 10/09/2025 23:40

RIP Charlie. Regardless of his politics he was doing an important thing in opening up debate and giving both sides an opportunity to speak. He was always respectful, never belittled anyone's opinion. He was a husband and a father and no one deserves to die because you don't agree with what that have to say or their right to do so.

DiscoNights · 10/09/2025 23:40

It is tragic. I am so upset for his wife and children.

Yeah, not much point engaging - the anti Trumps are the ‘goodies’ after all 🙄.
This thread won’t be any different to the last one, with the fascist apologists thinking they’re better than people with opinions that they don’t like. And the anti gun lobby salivating that a pro gunner got shot dead in front of his wife and young children, no less. I predict round about page six you can also look forward to someone comparing him to Hitler…
