😀 oh yes .

I can't as my boiler is broken, looking forward to the new boiler bill when it gets replaced this week! I feel the cold so easily unlike DH who is not keen to put the heating on until about December!

I had my boiler recently serviced with all fingers crossed and it passed with flying colours. He did put the heating on - twas during the last heatwave - and everyone was complaining. My heating comes on when the temperature drops to 16 because I'm stingy. One July, for a couple of days, the heating came on - 2022?

dontcallmelen · 15/09/2025 13:01

Goldenbear hope the wait isn’t to long for a new boiler 🫰, I’ve had the heating on a couple times the last few days, I feel the cold badly my meds don’t help have practically blue feet & hands even in the summer, grateful we’ve accrued fair amount of credit & can afford to heat the house properly it’s Victorian high ceilings/big windows bit of a mission keeping it warm.

Evenstar · 15/09/2025 13:03

I use my heated throw a lot, I have fibromyalgia so have to keep warm or I have a lot more pain.

placemats · 15/09/2025 13:07

Yes my Edwardian end of terrace is difficult to heat. I do feel the cold as well but I've got a jumper on. I've been up since 7 waiting for an IKEA delivery. Loads to do now. Pax storage unit with sliding doors in the dinning room. It's going up on Wednesday, Taskrabbit, so lots of clearing up to do. I can't totally empty the room.

I’d actually die at 16 I think. Even at 18 I need a thermal base layer and an oodie, plus a blanket to keep legs and hands warm and I’m still miserable because my nose is cold

With respect if ‘putting a jumper on’is keeping you warm that’s not really feel8ng the cold. A jumper doesn’t help me at all at temps below about 19.

So would I Yy the cold nose, I do layer up & use a throw if I’m lounging about on the sofa thankfully we can afford the heating bills I spent my childhood being cold I feel for anyone who doesn’t have a choice of putting the heating on.

as for that ketamine bed wetting addled Musk, he can fuckoff then fuckoff a bit more & when he gets there fuckoff again I’m utterly incensed with his nonsense funny how Farage & company so desperate for us to leave the EU yet would handover this country to the USA without a backward glance whilst pocketing the dollars.

LlttledrummergirI · 15/09/2025 13:44

My boiler is broken again. It seems to have been broken more than it worked over the last few years- this will be our fourth call out this year.

When we were skint, it was set to 16°c, the last couple of years it's usually set to 18, but on cold days I will happily turn up to 21. It's a real treat not to be cold.

Kruger is living in cloud cuckoo land. He was a major part of the problems we have now by being part of, and supporting the government that caused them. He has the same attitude of continuing with shit policies that will cause harm. The snake is starting to eat itself.

Saucery · 15/09/2025 13:47

Today I’ve been keeping myself warm by making chicken/veg soup, flapjack and a dairy free ginger cake. I am toasty in the kitchen now Grin
Edwardian heating nightmare here, too, but I do crochet a lot of blankets, so we’re reet for now.

I applaud Ed Davey’s letter but his reply to Musk on X was a bit are you twelve?. Still, shows he cares.

Well, I don't have any medical issues but I wear socks and a vest all year round plus I have to have a long sleeve top under the jumper. In the very cold weather, the heating stays on. I build up the credit.

I have every sympathy for those who struggle to keep warm whether it's because of medical issues and or economic reasons.

cardibach · 15/09/2025 12:52

My heating puts itself on. It’s thermostat controlled and I never switch that off. I don’t care what the date is, if it’s cold I want the heating on. It clocked 8n this morning for a bit. It’s set to come on for a couple of hours in the morning and all evening if the temp in the living room drops below 19, so not extravagant. I had it set at 18 last year but that was a bit miserable.

I'm with you, I want the heating on if cold especially if WFH, I do try to resist but it's all I can focus on it not a nice room temperature.

Yes, the servicing was how I found out if it needs replacing, looks like savings back to zero and the credit card coming out 😬. Our washing machine broke last week and we had to buy a new one and my DD's window hinge broke so had to pay the excess on that- hopefully things come in three!

DuncinToffee · 15/09/2025 14:40

We need a new oven/cooker, luckily the car passed its MOT

Labour Party spokesperson on Danny Kruger MP’s defection to Reform UK:

"Every Conservative who defects to Reform ties Nigel Farage more closely to their record of failure. Nigel Farage can recruit as many failed Tories as he likes – it won’t change the fact that he has no plan for Britain."

Saucery sounds delicious, I’m doing a roast chicken & all the trimmings for dinner yesterday I made a cheese & onion flan I’m not a very good cook apart from a few offerings I do quite well oh & bake a really good lemon drizzle cake.
MrsJinks I salute you for attending the March, what really saddens me is the likes of Musk & some of his extraordinarily rich cohort appear to do nothing for the betterment of anyone they agitate & fund so many questionable groups stirring up hate in the pursuit of accruing even more power & money they could do so much good improve so many lives yet they choose destruction & chaos.

Thanks, cold hands and feet are horrible, hope it isn't too bad form you today! I don't have a medical condition but I do feel the cold, even in the summer but I equally live in a cold house and there is a very old chestnut tree that casts a shadow over the house making it colder (nice to look at though).

Does sound very tasty, I go in the kitchen to work as warmer.

It always happens in threes.

I have to get a radiator replaced before the winter sets in and getting a plumber is like trying to find the end of the rainbow.

Let's hope so, can't budget for any more!

Oh yes, trying to find tradespeople that are available is challenging although I'm quite lucky as in a WhatsApp group in the locality where someone has produced a spreadsheet of contacts.

SerendipityJane · 15/09/2025 15:53

Anyone fancy talking about the employment rights bill and Farage/Reforms opposition to it ?

PickAChew · 15/09/2025 15:59

Sod's law that all the things that want to break decide to do so at once. Even when the funds are there, finding a suitable replacement or someone to fix the problem always ends up taking up far more headspace than it should. Then even expensive stuff isn't as well made so there's another replacement or repair in the not sufficiently distant future... I daren't deep clean my oven because I suspect it's the grease that's stopping it from falling apart 😬 The washer is on its last legs, too and would have to be replaced immediately. 2 loads is a light day for it.

For general stuff I'm lucky that DH is fairly handy. I am, too, but limited by strength and dexterity, these days.

cardibach · 15/09/2025 16:11

My cat has just broken. She’s been a bit snuffly on and off for a while but now she’s having massive sneezing fits and isn’t eating well (very uncharacteristic) so she has a vet appointment for tomorrow. That’ll be pricey, I’m sure. Daylight robbery at the vet these days.
Edit to add - she’s a flat face breed with a history of tooth problems, so breathing is a worry.

I mean, I will?

There's a few on MN opposed too.

itsgettingweird · 15/09/2025 16:20

I really respect Ed Davey for coming out and taking a stand against Musks video linked speech.

We cannot allow people from other countries to dictate our politics and incite violence and hatred at our protests.

I don’t agree with the protest but our citizens have the right to hold them - and certainly don’t need encouragement from billionaire nut jobs to be violent on them.
