As per the title.

I have to admit that I do. Saves a flush.

No. I work in a leisure centre . There was a woman in the shower with her 4 children, ages about 5 to about 12. As I walked past, she instructed her children to wee in the shower. I I pointed out that they were next to tbe toilets and other customers might not like them weeing in the shower. I'll just say that she didn't take it well and I had to radio the manager for assistance.

So fucking grim. Well done for calling her out.

I've always wondered what dragon butter is after 10+ years on MN I've finally found out! Envy

Urea crystals can block drains so generally no.

Fucking hell, what size crystals are you passing?

I really hope that's not an academic or at least has more credentials than all that academics writing about urine not being sterile in last 10 years or so🙈

Except I’ve repeatedly said I’d be open to learning I, and this widely help view, are wrong. But nobody, including you, are even suggesting what the contaminants may be. Just ‘belief’.
NB if you’re speaking about biofilms then that really isn’t relevant unless disturbed.

Yep, and I wee in the bath just before I get out.
saves water.
i don’t poo in the shower though!

I actually did once…when was very ill (genuinely could not help it! 😳😢). Even though I was obviously ill, I can hand on heart say it was NOT my finest hour! 😟😔

I believe that leg-washers are fine to wee in the shower.

Having read a debate (in a TikTok comment section🤫), many people don’t wash their legs and feet in the shower, they believe it’s sufficient that the residue from their torso/arms/genitals runs over them on the way to the drain… I’m not one for competitive hygiene but I was surprised at how many people admitted to that.

Now that's another thread right there 😆

I actually read about this somewhere. I chatted with my parents about it months ago. Turns out Dad is a leg washer but Mum isn't.

I thought about what I do. I'm a half and half. My thighs always get washed and I wash my feet, but my lower legs can sometimes get forgotten.

My cat has started peeing in my shower at night instead of bothering going down to the litter tray.

🤣

I used to pee in the bath when I was pregnant.

I’ve just asked my wife if she pees in the shower and she said yes. But she’s recanted her confession because I’m shocked. Now she’s on the shower.

I just asked Google if it was ok to wee in the shower and this is the reply:

Yes, peeing in the shower is efficient. And yes, it reduces your water usage — which is good news for both your wallet and the environment. But do those benefits outweigh the “ick” factor?

Ultimately, it’s a question of personal preference. So, when you’re in your own shower, you do you.

I read an article about not leg washing in the shower too. Didn't get the logic, I'd sort of get it if it was a bubble bath. I'm definitely coming at the theory from the perspective that an I'm-late-it's-a-quickie-shower is bits, pits and feet being key areas 🤣

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/09/2025 09:04

Oh I never wash my feet or lower legs! Surely they get cleaned with all the water and soap heading downhill?

SingtotheCat · 05/09/2025 12:23

Yes. At the start of showering. A good wash and it all gets washed away. I like a shower wee.

maxisback · 05/09/2025 12:31

i always squatted when I peed in the shower anyway, it never went anywhere near my legs. Do people just stand and let it run down?

Maaate · 05/09/2025 13:03

Showers are literally meant to transport all the dirt, grime and assorted bodily fluids off you and down a plughole 🤷🏼‍♀️

If pee is such a problem what do people do if they have heavy periods or a bout of diarrhoea? I frequently have to have a quick douche with the shower to clean up after flooding - never occurred to me that this was supposedly unhygienic 🤣

It's only an issue if you don't spray your shower after every use

incognitomouse · 05/09/2025 13:18

If I feel the urge to pee, I will pee. I'm already in the shower, what's the worst that can happen? I pee on my own leg that I am about to wash?

Waitingfordoggo · 05/09/2025 13:18

Yep.

Not funny to have some decent boundaries

Your belief that they are decent boundaries, doesn’t make that a fact, simply your (OTT) opinion!

Missey85 · 05/09/2025 17:03

Yes

JohnTheRevelator · 05/09/2025 17:03

Yes,why not? I often find that the running water triggers an urge to pee! It's only ever a very small amount, and not worth climbing out of the shower, soaking wet,to use the toilet! The shower gets cleaned regularly with antibacterial spray anyway,so I don't think it's going to do any harm.

Think along the lines of defecating in the shower and stomping on the result so it goes down the plug hole.
There. I bet you feel better for knowing that! I don't.

Oh yuk,yuk,yuk🤮🤮.
I was intrigued as to what waffle stamp was ..now I wish I didn't know.

ChatGPT seems rather more positive - what are people teaching their AIs?

Yes, it’s generally okay to pee in the shower — from a health and hygiene perspective — as long as you're doing it in your own shower and rinsing thoroughly with water.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
Why it’s okay:

  • Urine is sterile (in healthy individuals), meaning it doesn’t contain harmful bacteria.
  • Saves water: You might flush the toilet 1.6 gallons per pee, so peeing in the shower conserves water.
  • Convenient and time-saving.
⚠️ Things to consider:
  • Shared showers: If you're sharing a shower (roommates, gyms, etc.), it's respectful not to do it — or at least to clean thoroughly after.
  • Health issues: If you have a urinary tract infection or other medical condition, it's better to use the toilet to avoid potential spread or complications.
  • Habitual crouching or postural concerns: In rare cases, doing this frequently may affect pelvic floor function — especially if people consistently pee in certain postures (relevant mainly to medical discussions).
So: Yes, it’s fine, just be considerate and rinse well.
