Have you recognised anyone on TV?

Clunky title, sorry.
With everything being reality this and reality that, have you ever recognised anyone from your life, on a TV show?

Only once for me, it was on Come Dine With Me, and it was somebody I went to secondary school with.
She was exactly the same as I remembered her, a really nice and genuinely lovely personality.
I can't remember how well she did on the show.
Will have to google and see if I can rewatch it!

Anyone remember street mate with davina McCall back in the 90s? My brother’s girlfriend was stopped in the street and asked if she fancied a date with the guy but she said she had a boyfriend (my bro) 😄

A parent from Scouts was on Location, Location.
One uni friend is a successful.presenter so see her often
Another uni friend presents the news locally.
Another uni friend was a presenter on sky news for a bit.
Saw another uni friend on Come dine with me.
A work friend had a part in one episode of a tv drama.
Another work friend on a game show.
And I was on the weakest link.

So, loads come to think of it.

Yes come dine with me twice someone I went to school with and someone I worked with. A friend on Dickinsons real deal. My cousin was on a quiz show with Terry wogan can’t remember the name. My dad was on the local news with his job. I was on the news years ago but you could only see the back of me (thank god !) A place in the sun and Sun sea and selling houses. And half the people in my town are on bargain loving brits in the sun 😂😂😂

My dad was once watching the evening news on the telly and there was one news item that was an outside broadcast doing an interview outside some big building in London, and as he watched, he saw himself come out of the building, walk down the steps and walk off.

He'd been at some meeting there that day, and hadn't seen the tv crew, outside broadcast van, interviewer/ee outside at all.

A woman I used to work with was a big cricket fan. She wanted to see an important match but she was meant to be working so she rang in sick, went to the match and sat in front of the scoreboard! Several people watching on tv saw her, including me! Luckily her boss didn't and nobody told him.

LimoncelloSpritzplease · 04/09/2025 23:17

Yes once recognised a really horrible Welsh girl that I encountered on holiday in Spain on Blind date.

ResusciAnnie · 04/09/2025 23:17

Well, myself 💁🏻‍♀️ been on tv a few times for various things.

My dad and best friend have been on the same program together once too.

But recognised unexpectedly / seen by surprise - yes, girl from school was once the ‘local expert’ person on Escape to the Country. Vineyard person.

Dabberlocks · 04/09/2025 23:20

Two people I know have been on Gardeners' World.

AleynEivlys · 04/09/2025 23:28

My brother was in Harry Potter and the CoS

newrubylane · 04/09/2025 23:32

A Big Brother contestant when I was about 20. I went to school with her. She was an awful person. Also, a reasonably famous actress who went to my school as well.

A very odd thing happened several years ago when my DD, who was about 2 at the time (she’s 13 now), spotted her big brother on TV! He was 6 at that stage but the footage was from when he was 2 (so DD wasn’t even born then but still recognised him!)

So a few years previously ‘Milkshake’ had visited my son’s nursery and with parental permission spoke to some of the kids and filmed some of the nursery day. It was meant to be used for a kids programme but to my knowledge it was never used. We then left the area so never heard more about it.

Then years later, DD was watching a programme on TV (can’t remember what it was called but there were loads of songs) and suddenly kept pointing to the TV and saying DS’s name. Sure enough, as the backing footage for one of the songs was the footage taken at the nursery years earlier and my DS and a friend playing and laughing on the screen! He looked so different and still had his baby features so I was pretty amazed DD recognised him! It was the strangest thing as I honestly thought nothing had come of the footage and then it popped up on TV years later!

Somebody I know was on DIY SOS
Her son has similar disabilities to my son so it was well deserved.

Gamuchon · 05/09/2025 00:58

@CoffeeChocolateWine that's so cool!

A really lovely girl I knew at school. She was a vet on one of those "day in the life of a zoo" type programmes.

I remember her being upset at school because a teacher had told her she wouldn't get the grades for vet school. She bloody did it in spades. So proud of her, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Toomanywaterbottles · 05/09/2025 01:22

Yes, quite a few work colleagues often turn up on various quiz shows like Mastermind, University Challenge, Only Connect, and someone else was on Bake Off.

Maddy70 · 05/09/2025 01:28

I live in an area where many actors/ artists visit they are often in my local bar

Whiskeyandkittens · 05/09/2025 01:37

In the early 2000s a lot of people recognised me on a news report, they were filming people walking through the city centre and apparently zoomed right in on me - I would have been walking to work at the time. People I hadn't spoken to in ages kept calling me to tell me but I missed it, hope I looked OK 😅

garlictwist · 05/09/2025 02:03

Someone I was at school with was on first dates. Hadnt seen him since I was 18 but recognised him straight away. On first dates he was dating a bloke which was not the case when we were at school but came as no surprise.

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/09/2025 05:50

Back in the early 90s when at Uni, some friends were also friends with local TV news readers, who I also became friendly with as we went out in a group. Both ended up on Sky News, one as a presenter, another as a correspondent who is on regularly.

stample · 05/09/2025 06:05

Friends dd in a documentary about children, girl from school year below me in the inbetweeners, another girl I went to school with, her dc were in the ads in a clothing shop

autienotnaughty · 05/09/2025 06:45

A neighbour went on come dine with me, another on the weakest link and a work colleague was briefly on ant and dec (she got a place on the plane!)

Stoptakingmysellotape · 05/09/2025 07:03

I was on wacaday as a child and was recognised by people I knew who called me afterwards to ask was it me. I get interviewed semi regularly for TV and radio and often get people messaging afterwards to say they heard it.

I work in a really niche area of expertise and so I see colleagues and other experts I know on TV all the time as we get called up to give opinions on issues relating to the industry.

goudacheese · 05/09/2025 07:28

A work colleague was on Cilla Black's Blind Date. She was the chooser and hoping for a date in an exotic location. She ended up at a theme park in the next County.

Yes, a bloke from my sixth form French class was on Blockbusters and someone who worked at a company we’d done a project with was on Location,Location, Location.
