Clunky title, sorry.
With everything being reality this and reality that, have you ever recognised anyone from your life, on a TV show?

Only once for me, it was on Come Dine With Me, and it was somebody I went to secondary school with.
She was exactly the same as I remembered her, a really nice and genuinely lovely personality.
I can't remember how well she did on the show.
Will have to google and see if I can rewatch it!

Oh and my awful awful ex neighbours were on Jeremy Kyle. Kyle was treating him like a king and the wronged party. He really wasn’t. He’s an abusive violent addict.

Son’s girlfriend’s sister was on The Wheel. She won big.

My dad saw me interviewed on Newsround back in the 90’s! I was at a crime prevention conference and they were interviewing 2 or 3 kids from every school there and mine got picked to be aired! I had no way to tell him I might be on the telly so he was watching with my younger sister, they mentioned the conference and said to her to watch out in case they saw me in the crowd then it was me being interviewed! I’ve still never seen it myself though!

I was on Newsround in the early 00s. I was being interviewed about what a 10 year old thought about about immigration and migration

A friend was on George Clarke's Building Home, she said he was lovely but they hardly saw him.
I think he was there 3 times in the whole build.

An ex work colleague was a bridesmaid on Don’t tell the bride so she was on the screen a fair bit with the groom picking dresses etc and going wedding dress shopping with the bride.

Dh’s work colleague was on Jimmy Carrs I literally just told you and won some money, I didn’t realise they don’t get their prize money until after the show airs!

BigJanette · 06/09/2025 09:22

All these wedding ones have reminded me I do know a friend who went on Say Yes to the Dress, but I've never seen it.

Loving all the inside goss about the presenters and how the shows work😄

A friend of mine was on a very early reality TV show about people getting married. It wasent Don't tell the bride, it was her brother getting married and she was the bridesmaid, it was late 90,s early 00,s
Her brother and his wife ended up.splitting up IRL after a few years .
I can't remember what it was called.

I knew someone who went on Jeremy Kyle… lived near them and went to secondary school with them. 🫣

sashh · 06/09/2025 11:25

A couple of former colleagues. Not at the same time, one's daughter got quite a way through Britain's got talent.

The other one I can't remember the programme, it was something about holidays. He said, "I've been coming to Cornwall for 20 years and I would never go anywhere else".

When I worked with him he refused to go abroad because, "I've been abroad, they say they do British food but it's different".

One of my friends got a call from the Jeremy Kyle show, her daughter wanted to go on. My friend turned them down, said her daughter new where she lived and anything she had to say she could say person.

Not on TV, but an old work colleague was on BBC News front page the other day, saying how she scheduled her c-section to accommodate nursery funding. I’ve long suspected she’s on here.

Fair tbh, DD is born on 1 April so we had to wait 5 months for any funding 😆 1 day earlier and wouldn’t have had to wait at all!

Oh I read that article, if it's the lady with twins, she purposely chose for her section to be scheduled in March, rather than April!

Loads, me included. I was a professional athlete at one time though. You won’t know me, just to be clear in the fame thing, I am not famous, but a few friends are, one in particular iis very recognisable.

I have a friend who does extra work, she’s always popping up in the background of stuff. She has a thing on fb where people try to be the first to spot her and then win for that time, lol

Yes it was her 😊She was a really lovely person to work with, I was so surprised to see her photo!

I worked with a woman who was on The Apprentice. She was lovely - brilliant at her job, modest, incredibly bright, really personable and always gave the impression she would go to the ends of the earth to help you if she could. Her persona on the programme made her look dim, cold and sulky. She went out half way through. Made me rethink the whole ethics of the show.

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 06/09/2025 21:47

Someone from the year above me at school did very well on X Factor. His appearance had dramatically changed so I wasn’t 100% sure it was him at first.

A relative’s wedding was on a Channel 4 cookery show and I spotted various family members.

I knew someone who appeared on the Apprentice too, and was 1000% nicer and cleverer than the show suggested.

peoplegetreadyforthetrain · 06/09/2025 23:40

Yes, quite a few people. A girl I went to school with is an actress who pops up in TV shows every now and again as a nurse / girlfriend / murder victim etc.

A lady I work with is a part-time TV and film extra and has been in loads of things with very famous people although often as a blur in the background.

Some family members have been on Bargain Hunt.

And some people I went to uni with are extremely successful in the theatre world.

Ivesaidenough · 07/09/2025 00:11

A fellow parent on First Dates. That was weird.

mamaduckbone · 07/09/2025 00:13

A girl I taught was on teen first dates. Also someone I was at uni with was a 'handy Andy' type person on a home renovations show. It was short lived and I can't remember its name, and someone else I was at uni with was a contestant on the pottery throw down.

Cattenberg · 07/09/2025 00:34

Loads. When I was at primary school, there was one very bright, but attention-seeking girl who appeared in every play and TV show that she could get into. Whenever a camera crew from the local TV news was in town, you can be sure that she'd find them and get herself in front of the camera somehow.

A boy in my year at school was on Come Dine With Me a few years ago. He made a dish we used to make in Home Economics class, circa Year 8, bless him. He didn't come close to winning!

I've seen a few of my cousins in documentaries, but the details would be outing. One is a Professor of genetics.

One of my ex's popped up on the TV news, saying he thought his disgraced local MP (Eric Joyce), should resign. Another guy, who I'd dated many years before, appeared on a talk show and was chucked off the set for disruptive behaviour. Embarrassing.

Cattenberg · 07/09/2025 00:43

I forgot to mention that one of my secondary school teachers went on to be in Game of Thrones! He did some acting back in those days too, but I'm guessing he no longer needs to work as a supply teacher when "resting".
