Clunky title, sorry.
With everything being reality this and reality that, have you ever recognised anyone from your life, on a TV show?

Only once for me, it was on Come Dine With Me, and it was somebody I went to secondary school with.
She was exactly the same as I remembered her, a really nice and genuinely lovely personality.
I can't remember how well she did on the show.
Will have to google and see if I can rewatch it!

I recognised someone on Only Connect who I was on a two day work trip with almost 30 years ago, different company, never saw him before or since that trip. It's amazing as I am almost clinically bad at recognising faces but I suppose a/ I also recognised the name and b/ I may or may not have fancied him a bit at the time.

"Only Connect" is very aptly named in this case 😄

A friend spotted me bidding at an auction on Antiques Road Trip.

An old teacher went on Pointless and gave an answer that doomed him to endless torment when he got back to school.

I went on The Weakest Link about 25 years ago, and recently saw a lady I befriended on there on a different show. I was amazed I remembered her so vividly as her hair was totally different.

A family friend of ours was on a Heinz Spaghetti Hoops advert a few years ago.

My auntie was featured in a really cheap advert for one of those we buy and sell gold companies. That really threw me! It turned out the advert was made by her son's production company.

Then most recent one was the Gran from the train adverts. I used to work with her.

I’ve known 3 people from Come Dine With Me, one on Naked Attraction and a contestant on Love Island by sight, as he lived in my village for a while.

That's reminded me of the Gavin & Stacey episode where the whole family were waiting to watch Mick's interview on their local news, only for it to be practically edited down to nothing 😂

I would love to be on The Chase, with a really clever person who went high on the chaser's offer! 😉

My tattooist was on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, converting a railway carriage into a home.

Our lovely, local bobby, now retired, in The Repair Shop.

Yes years ago I recognised someone I used to go to school with on Saturday Night Takeaway where Ant & Dec used to do that thing where they fool people!

Subweymouth · 04/09/2025 19:18

Knew someone turned up on a quiz show - she knocked 4 or 5 years off her age. There was no reason to mention anyone's age, so fair enough.

whitedoorsgalore · 04/09/2025 19:21

Yes, someone I used to work with turned up one of those ‘benefit cheat’ programmes. He’d managed to get the keys to several council properties and was subletting them, making a fortune.

I don’t normally watch programmes like that but I was off sick from work and was languishing on the sofa, idly flicking through the TV. He had quite an unusual name and I couldn’t believe it when I saw his name in the programme description.

Justbecauseyoucandoesntmeanyoushould · 04/09/2025 19:25

Yes, some former students in adverts, Holby City, 'Enders, televised performance at Glastonbury.

Someone in my tutor group at Newcastle Poly later played Jimmy Nails' girlfriend in Spender. A friend of ours is occasionally on Homes Under the Hammer.

Someone I went to school with missing a flight on Airline (they were very nice to her), and my butcher was on Newsnight, voting Tory.

EchoedSilence · 04/09/2025 19:29

Shegotanology · 04/09/2025 20:24

Local boy played the baby in Gavin & Stacey.

Jitterbuggs · 04/09/2025 20:28

Various professors as talking heads on documentaries. Always nice when I randomly see one. :)

CrushingOnRubies · 04/09/2025 20:33

someone I used to work for was on Escape to the Country. They actually brought one of the houses so it’s been repeated a few times

I aaw someone that I was in sixth form with on one of those Big Brother wannabes programs back in the day 😂

Oldglasses · 04/09/2025 20:41

Years ago I knew someone in Come Dine (a friend of a friend).
I also knew someone in the last Traitors. A friend of a close relative.

HornyHornersPinger · 04/09/2025 20:41

Yep, I saw someone I used to work with (who was a total knob) on Street Wars, the police documentary. They'd been filming the police in our town and I recognised him as he got arrested for drunk and disorderly - they caught him having a piss against a church and he'd gotten lairy when they spoke to him 🤣
