Hate how racist everything has become, and how quickly it’s happened.

I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

I was referring to you living in the UK, do you live in the UK? You implied you married someone from the UK so now you live here and presumably that's why you have an opinion on racism in the UK which it what this thread is about? So essentially you are an immigrant? Why is it ok for you but not others to the UK?

Spousal visa is actually surprisingly onerous. Nobody has an issue with that sort of visa.

Don't have time currently to respond to your whole comment but it's much easier for women and children to get on a plane from Ukraine to the UK and the situations aren't comparable. The risk of death and suffering associated with getting to the UK (or more likely, other countries) to claim asylum is high, and so typically the men endure the vast journey first and then bring their wives and children over on a plane as dependants once their claim has been processed. It's not that they value their lives and safety more than their children's and happily choose to abandon them (which is such an offensive and dehumanising trope), far from it - it's a calculation of risk between the journey and safety for the forseeable in their home country where they can hopefully be supported/protected by family. There are too many tales of children dying on the journey that most men do not even consider this an option, however much it may pain them to leave them behind. You make it sound like they're all skipping their way here merrily, laughing and singing "row row your boat" when the reality could not be more different.

So you are saying the women and children are not in immediate danger in their own countries? What about all the Afghan men? How will the women left behind live as they cannot work or even leave their homes alone to buy food?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/08/2025 11:17

The rape of a child is horrific, regardless of who the perpetrators might be, but the vast majority of migrants to this country are not child rapists, and they are no more responsible for those who do commit such atrocities than the average white British man. And it is fundamentally racist to hold them collectively responsible, simply because they share the characteristic of being "foreign".

Please stop using child rape and violence against women as a vehicle for expressing your racism. It doesn't legitimise your prejudices, it merely highlights them.

Thank you neatly said.

@NestingbirdsIf you cannot see what you have written is racist and uneducated than you're lying to yourself.

RingoJuice · 25/08/2025 12:16

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/08/2025 12:06

It isn't forced. That implies that there is grand master plan somewhere that is being deliberately imposed on people. Whereas the reality is that it's happening organically and successive governments have failed to get a grip.

Forced demographic change would be an accurate description for e.g. the slave trade, where people were taken against their will to work in other parts of the world, resulting in lasting demographic change. That is not what is happening here, so you can quit your hyperbolic claims.

Is becoming a minority in your own country ‘lasting demographic change’? I think it is.

PeonyPatch · 25/08/2025 12:17

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/08/2025 12:13

That's easy. We just need to talk about it without invoking racist and xenophobic tropes or resorting to disinformation instead of fact.

Please direct me to a thread that involves this as I’d prefer healthy debate on this.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 25/08/2025 11:19

It’s not racist to be concerned about the shocking number of board and asylum seekers coming into the country. We are a small island, there’s no room, and when in some deprived areas nearly half of children are living in poverty we should have other priorities

Why did you vote Tory and Brexit presumably?
The huge number of ‘children dying in poverty’ has been going on for years, why now is it a problem you can pin on migrants/refugees/asylum seekers. If you’ve got a problem about crumbling services, lack of go appointments, no school places, blame the party that was in power 3/4 of the last 100 years. Or rather blame yourselves for voting for the inept bunch of chancers..
Fwiw the current government are at least trying to do something, increasing deportations, moving these people out of hotels. The previous lot did nothing.

I once found a news article that showed on a graph the demographic change over the years and predicted change in the future based on current trends. It showed how white British people would be in the minority.

Who's the 'betters'?

Your government. They could in fact stop this if they wanted to, they choose not to. Even inaction is a choice.

Phobiaphobic · 25/08/2025 11:20

Please highlight where I have said that?

Spousal visa is actually surprisingly onerous. Nobody has an issue with that sort of visa.

So do you think people who are racist are going to ask for the details of how someone arrived in the UK, does it go something like this, "Oh hello, welcome to the UK, before I despise you for existing (due to the colour of your skin), can you provide the details of whether you have a spousal visa?" Come off it mate, this is just a fictional or deluded view of how racism works.

Even the Biden admin claimed to be ‘doing something’. Something totally ineffective that is

Nestingbirds · 25/08/2025 12:21

Fabulous! I agree - what is your solution to millions arriving on a small island? Do you think it’s remotely sustainable and if so why?

Perhaps you haven’t noticed the hospitals struggling, the grid locked roads, the lack of GP appointments, the chronic lack of housing. Please do enlighten us with your solutions.

Of course they're in danger, hence the need to claim asylum elsewhere - but the risk to life could be perceived as higher on the journey to asylum. As I said the risk is calculated by each family, hopefully they can be supported/protected by wider family but sometimes that is not possible, and that's where you see women and children making the journey too. Parents are not willingly putting their children at risk either way! Many Afghan men fleeing alone are against the Taliban and are trying their hardest to get their wives and children out from under their rule and current suppression.

PeonyPatch · 25/08/2025 12:22

The problem we have is uncontrolled immigration is only going to worsen prejudice and discrimination.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/08/2025 12:24

You do have to accept that the population have not given consent for millions of new arrivals. It feels forced and terrifying for many because no one seems to have any control over it - nor does it seem anyone has even planned how the infrastructure will cope. It is now impacting so many people up and down the country. This is a failure of both policy and leadership of the current government. No one has the first idea what Labour’s policy even is on immigration, they don’t appear to have one. Tony Blair conceded a few months ago that they had completely underestimated the numbers and the consequences, but the current government is silent. Total radio silence. No action. No plan. No leadership or action of any kind.

That is the real failure here, the government are really letting all of us down. I am astonished we haven’t heard a peep out of them.

Unless this is fixed, the people Labour are letting down the most are the legal ethnic minorities both born here, and those invited to live here, because of government inaction the country is now becoming increasingly frustrated and angry. Unheard. Unseen and demanding that this is addressed.

WHEN will we hear from Starmer? Where the fuck is he?
Are we all supposed to stand by and allow this to happen in this great country known for its gentle tolerance and inherent kindness?

It’s an absolute disgrace.

When has any population ever been asked to "consent" to demographic change? It has occurred throughout history and it will continue to happen. Particularly as climate change starts to bite and parts of the planet become uninhabitable.

I don't disagree that successive governments have failed to manage this issue effectively, but that's a separate matter.

There is no point in talking about a great country that is known for its kindness and tolerance if we've decided that those values no longer suit us. Surely what you're arguing for is a country which prioritises self interest and indifference to the suffering of others. And that's where our thinking diverges, as those are not the values that I was brought up with.

I’m a married-in. So I am concerned about both and my posting record probably shows that big time tbh

What is it with white immigrants thinking they’re superior to other immigrants because they married an Englishman?

There’s kindness and tolerance, but then there is plain self-sabotage. I think governments have indeed failed the British population sadly. I am saying that as a third-generation immigrant myself.

I don’t think it’s uncontrolled. If we are talking about asylum seekers they get processed, and some meet the criteria to stay and some get deported.

There aren't any threads on MNHQ with a measured debate on this subject, unfortunately. The racism and disinformation is everywhere and MNHQ doesn't have the capacity within its moderation team to tackle it.

What is happening on MN is part of a wider social media campaign that has been orchestrated by the far right. One of the racist posters openly admitted that they weren't actually a MN user, they had just come over from Twitter to stir up trouble after seeing a link on one of their far right feeds. You will see a lot of new users on these threads, who don't post about anything else.
