I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

I am a Lexiteer. Brexit was not about racism. Many of those who voted Lexit were appalled by the treatment of the Windrush immigrants - well, I was.

It might not have been about racism for you, but it was for everyone I know who voted for it.

Brexit was absolutely about racism.

What on earth are you talking about - “a huge amount of money behind it”? By who? What conspiracy theory is this?

Do you not think ordinary working class people are fed up seeing or hearing
news stories or reports of illegal men coming into the country and getting put up in 4 star hotels for free. Don’t forget the crimes that are being committed as well that the public actually get to know about.

But that's the problem. Those reports are false. Asylum seekers are not illegal, and they are not put in 4 star hotels. The reports of crimes are exaggerated. People are being heavily manipulated by very right-wing racists. It's not as if it's unprecedented, is it?

nowitsmetime · 25/08/2025 10:00

Wow this thread has really blown up! I still believe people should follow the money. Who has all the money? I can guarantee that if you stop the boats none of us will be richer and then surprise surprise it will be single mums that are the main problem.

The counter protests are much bigger but that doesn't fit the agenda. Billionaires don't want to share their wealth or pay for the NHS so they tap into xenophobia. F face, Tice and Candy are all rich men, they are protecting their banks not this country. Time to TAX BILLIONAIRES like them.

Such as?

Why does “living in the country all your life” entitle you to a council house paid by others? Genuine question.

Why should the “white british people” get one? What have they done to get one? Or is your success criteria just being “white British”?

What’s the point of having a country if this is what you really think?

. Honestly there are areas in Tower Hamlets, E3 to be specific which are incredibly disturbing to walk through as a non Asian, or perhaps even more specifically non Muslim woman. I'm an architect and mixed race, getting to one of my projects in E3 was a lottery whether I would be abused walking to and from it and the nearest station. I realised it was particularly risky during school drop off or pick up when lots of family's were moving around in big numbers.

Over the time I was visiting site there I had used nappies thrown at me by a woman from a flat, was spat at my a man, had various verbal abuse thrown at me around my race, weirdly had my leg slapped by passers by quite a few times while something shouted at me, was told to f off more times than I have fingers by people, stared at. Really I'm not easily intimidated but it was the most unwelcoming and edgy I have felt at 8am in the morning. The walk to site was less than 10 mins. It wasn't just directed at women either the contractors who were mainly white had various negative encounters too from locals some of which involved Police.

There is a big difference in the treatment from passers by in Aldgate and some of the back streets around E3.

I'm sorry to hear how you are now feeling.

What's racist about not wanting thousands of fighting aged men we know nothing about arriving illegally in our country?

They are not arriving illegally: over 65% have a legitimate claim for asylum. Why assume that men cannot be the target of persecution? In most dangerous régimes they are the primary target.

hazylazydayz · 25/08/2025 10:05

It's just scapegoating - it was the same 40odd years ago with the NF in the London suburb I grew up in. Blame a tiny small minority while letting Johnson or Farage or Rees Mogg and all of that lot off the hook. They're the ones systematically carving out money for themselves and their uber rich multi national offshore investing elite friends, awarding massive public service NHS and construction contracts to companies that prioritise paying dividends to their shareholders - even when they fail spectacularly. They're the ones to blame for the crumbling NHS, poor social housing, budget cuts left right and centre. The laughable thing is how some folk honestly believe Reform will be ANY different. Same people that voted BJ in because he was a 'character'.

What’s the point of having a country if this is what you really think?

Yes, because that is their home country. It shouldn’t matter what race or ethnicity you are, but if you were born and raised in that country, it should entitle you to certain benefits over those who weren’t.

I know immigrants who married white British people, separated not long after and got given council properties straight away. That’s really quite unfair imo.

The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 for broadcast journalism.

The BBC may spend too much time seeking balance such that they sometimes invite unscientific fringe theorists on to programmes to make sure it is balanced but on the whole the BBC is great.

That is funny that you think they are balanced.

Happygolucky314 · 25/08/2025 10:08

if you look at the protests they aren’t healthy or showing what we believe in or anything of the kind I’ve just seen a video of people climbing all over police vans cars etc it isn’t ok. however I still think we should have closed borders and they should not be entering illegally but that is all. They shouldn’t be taking our homes.

The BBC is balanced. As I say they sometimes go too far to invite flat earthers on.

That you think they aren’t suggests your own views are a bit cockeyed.

Where would you get your news from?

No one at present and I wish they would it’s a dive and my private landlord is a joke. They will be housed eventually won’t they they’ll be taking over the new housing estates being built etc when we’ve got young families and young people waiting and wanting houses and we need to support and look after our own first.

Yes they are everywhere but the majority of them are from a certain religion. They cannot stand women being independent and expressing themselves. Ive walked down the streets and have had stones thrown at me and been called a whore just for wearing shorts and tshirt

Muslim men cannot stand women being independent and expressing themselves? News to me, I'll let all the others know at our next Big Meeting.

(after we've discussed the progression of the takeover, naturally)

@MarchitectmummyI lived in Tower Hamlets E1 in a local authority estate for 15 years and while it does have a strong non-white community, I don't recognise what you're describing. I'm not questioning your experience but suggesting one person's anecdotal experience of an area is just that. I found it to be an actually very friendly and warm place once you got to know your neighbours on a human-human basis. Also that entire part of London has been an immigrant quarter for literally centuries (huguenots, Jews, Bangladeshis) and plenty of the same discussions were happening then as now.

I get my news from a variety of sources (and have never watched GB News) but you only need to glance at the BBC news page these days to see they are nothing more than tabloid journalism. Even their fact checker has to constantly rewrite their articles because they are wrong. Inconvenient stories get ignored or only published when they can no longer be ignored. They can’t even identify the sex of male sex offenders!

Why is someone choosing to buy or rent a property taking over a housing estate?

There is plenty of support for british people who need housing already, I find it odd when people either suggest it doesn’t exist, or expect someone to find a perfect home for them just because their British.

The rental market does need an overhaul though, slum landlords are a huge problem. But people would rather moan about refugees when they could put the energy into demanding reform of the rental marker.

It's not a conspiracy theory. I recommend looking into the billionaires who funded the Brexit campaign because they didn't want to follow EU tax laws. I thought/hoped it was common knowledge by now the way big money funds and manipulates social media.

Everyone is labelling people who are getting concerned their neighbourhoods are changing due to illegal immigration as racist.

WTF. It's not racism to be worried about how the armies of men are affecting how safe you feel in your own town.

You are making it racist not them.

As a worker I am sick of being at the bottom of the barrel being taxed to the hilt and warned of increased taxes to fund the benefits bill now growing topsy because of boat people.

We have proper immigration routes. Ask yourself why men of fighting age from countries that are anti the UK, misogynistic cultures or known for terrorism are they're coming in here in droves through unauthorised routes.

We are a tiny island, land and resources are already stressed.

All of us should be concerned.

You are not being taxed to “pay for boat people”.

If you go to the ONS website you can see which ethic groups get the most welfare and which benefits etc and what costs etc. It’s white British. White British also claim the most generous benefits such as PIP and DLA etc.

Perhaps at your next big meeting you could ask the offending men to stop calling women whores for walking down the street in a shortish business skirt? This has happened to me recently near my place of work, just like the pp whose experience you’re so happy to take the piss out of.

You might think this is ok and women shouldn’t make a fuss. I strongly disagree.

It would be good to do research into the demographics of council home waitlists.
