Hate how racist everything has become, and how quickly it’s happened.

I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

Then there are also Labour proposals like the very worrying Islamophobia definition that proposed making it illegal to criticise Islam.

So the men painting crosses on the shops and harassing a woman and her child by calling her 'rag head' were just being rebellious and not racist?
Come on - it's an excuse to be racist that a huge amount of ignorant people have been waiting for. The people who like to blame everyone else for their shit lives - a few years ago they hated the Polish, now it's the 'illegals' and the 'boat people'.

And before that it was single mothers who were deliberately getting pregnant to get council houses and destroying society at the same time.

Do you mean 1 million people who move her on UK work permit visas to do jobs @Dorisbonson ? And that these people are depriving Brits of that job?
Often as a business, when applying for a visa to work here you have to advertise and show that no one here wants or can do the job. If it’s a skilled job, that person is often benefitting that company, maybe even increasing its profits.
Or do you believe 1m people still coming in to our country via border entry and simply staying - even though we have tighter border entry since Brexit?
We have a lot of aging people in this country and a shrinking work force - it’s not a bad thing to have people willing to work from other countries as part of our tax paying workforce if they have come in on a working visa .
I am interested to know @Dorisbonson the make up of these 1m people?

There are at currently at least 1.2m immigrants on universal credit. We can start with them? Perhaps those convicted of crimes too?

I'm more interested in British people having free nursery places, lower house prices and jobs. That might help with the birth rate?

No one knew that a hotel in a quiet rural town was no longer open to the public for ten months?

Probably pretty good evidence it wasn’t a hotel that local people were using, was likely to shut down and therefore the Home Office using it didn’t make the slightest difference to anything.

Lolapusht · 25/08/2025 09:41

How is putting up national flags racist??

How is saying “Hang on, we have a problem here…” racist?

By instantly calling everyone racist, you’re actually going to make the problem worse. Are you seriously saying that people out protesting at hotels where men have been arrested for sexually assaulting girls are all BNP card-carrying, white van racists? So you’re not allowed to voice concerns about 000s of illegal men arriving in concentrated areas of the country and committing horrific crimes that seem to get brushed off as ‘cultural differences’?

Immigration is vital to our existence and we need new people coming to this country but we seem to be hobbled by this refusal to even discuss that there is a problem with some of the illegal immigrants who come here. All those ringing their hands about the bigotry, do you want the government to stop Stopping the Boats? Just let everyone in? Of course there are racist a-holes jumping on the bandwagon but you can’t just write off everyone saying “we don’t want this”.

None of you have a problem with being so repulsed by your national flag? Is it the flag or the assumed intention of those putting it up that causes you such conniptions? We could do with some national pride.

Scot flying Scottish flag in Scotland = proud patriot
Welsh flying Welsh flag in Wales = proud patriot
American flying US flag in US = proud patriot
French flying French flag in France = proud patriot
English flying English flag in England = hateful racist

Can you not see why this take might piss some people off? That other people in other nations, including the ones that neighbour ours, are allowed to be proud of their country, allowed to want to protect its culture, allowed to fly its flag in the streets and display it outside their homes- but if we do it, we’re automatically painted as right wing nut job racists.

We’re not allowed to be proud to be English. We’re not allowed to want to preserve English culture and values. We’re not allowed to think that a large influx of mainly young men arriving illegally, hailing from nations and following a religion with what could at best be described as a draconian attitude towards women may not necessarily be a wonderful thing. We’re not allowed to point out that these men aren’t “fleeing war” (unless war has broken out in Calais), they’ve actually travelled through several safe countries to get here. We’re not allowed to point out that while we “only” take the 5th highest number of migrants of any European country, we’re actually only the 11th largest country in terms of size so in that respect we’re really doing pretty well.

No no. We must suppress any pride we might feel in being English people from England, we must whip our own backs for the sins of our colonialist, imperialist, enslaving ancestors and continue to dilute English culture down until it just isn’t a thing anymore (which some would argue it already isn’t).

Edited to add that I am the grandchild of migrants on both sides, and my grandparents were proud to come here. But they came legally, and adopted and immersed themselves in their new way of life. My grandmother and her sisters rarely spoke Hindi even to one another when they were alone together. Now you can be sitting on a bus or train and not understand a single word spoken by a single person around you. That is what NF and his ilk are capitalising on. That feeling of frustration at the idea that to be proud of being English in England is shameful, and that Englishness itself is being eroded and chipped away at until it won’t exist anymore.

Edited

This post hits the nail on the head. Flying our flag is not racist and sod anyone who says it is.

How can one possibly ‘spot the British person’?

They'll be the ones foaming at the mouth.

Sunflower3332 · 25/08/2025 07:17

So what's your answer when people who've lived in this country all their lives have to wait forever to get a council house, yet people who have just arrived here can jump the queue with EVERYTHING, especially with regards to being housed.

Why does “living in the country all your life” entitle you to a council house paid by others? Genuine question.

Why should the “white british people” get one? What have they done to get one? Or is your success criteria just being “white British”?

ayepecking · 25/08/2025 09:43

It's horrible. There must be a huge amount of money behind it - presumably the same money that got Trump into power.

I'm hoping very much that it's just summer madness, and when it starts raining next week they all crawl back into their holes. We are not a racist country.

What's racist about not wanting thousands of fighting aged men we know nothing about arriving illegally in our country?

The language they speak often gives it away you know.

Does it? How? There are four people in my family, we’re all British, we speak three different languages.

No, we’re not. We’re generous to a fault.

Agernonthingy · 25/08/2025 09:46

There are obviously quite a number of people in this country who are unhappy with the way things are being managed. We’re stuck with the government for a five year period, so I guess folks are finding a different way of objecting.

Rollingdown · 25/08/2025 09:46

I live rurally and there was a coastguard and helicopter gone to see a dingy that had appeared off the coast not the point but I’m surprised they came here also there’s the argument that the UK isn’t the first safe country they pass

BufferingAgain · 25/08/2025 09:46

It’s the algorithms … if people loiter on a racist post, the algorithm serves them up 10 more as they think that’s what will keep the person’s attention. Before they know it their entire feed’s about asylum seekers doing this and that … digital brainwashing

I would be proud of a nation that collectively condemned racism and showed compassion to those in need.

I have no issue with the flag per se. I'm disgusted by the attitudes of the people who are now flying it, though, and the flag is now sadly tainted by association. It has become a symbol of racism and hatred.

I would like to see some sort of campaign to claim it back.

PermanentTemporary · 25/08/2025 09:48

I’m also hoping that it’s mainly it being summer, plus too much cheap alcohol, and cocaine apparently. But I’m not hopeful.

We lost a fantastic colleague a few months ago because he just doesn’t want to bring up 3 children who are not white in a country where the expression of racism is so normalised.

Anyone who wants more people deported should be delighted with this government, the numbers successfully deported are stratospheric compared to the previous shitshow.

Sounds weird I know. But I suppose if you live in a town you aren’t likely to try and book a room in the local hotel. Presumably some locals (staff etc) were aware but there was certainly no discussion of it amongst anyone I know or on local social media, until as I say, about 10 months later when it all became common knowledge.

What on earth are you talking about - “a huge amount of money behind it”? By who? What conspiracy theory is this?

Do you not think ordinary working class people are fed up seeing or hearing
news stories or reports of illegal men coming into the country and getting put up in 4 star hotels for free. Don’t forget the crimes that are being committed as well that the public actually get to know about.

If you think civil unrest is not orchestrated by the highest echelons of society then you know nothing of history, politics and manipulation.

What do you count as ‘proper news’? The BBC are no better than partisan tabloid journalists who are very selective about what they choose to report or promote. Algorithms are a problem for all sides - the left get their views reinforced and pushed to the extreme by them as much as the right.

I think that the Brexit campaign and result has brought the people who used to hide their racism out into the light and emboldened them to say what the hell they like. Backed up by the likes of Farage and GB News.

I am a Lexiteer. Brexit was not about racism. Many of those who voted Lexit were appalled by the treatment of the Windrush immigrants - well, I was.

The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 for broadcast journalism.

The BBC may spend too much time seeking balance such that they sometimes invite unscientific fringe theorists on to programmes to make sure it is balanced but on the whole the BBC is great.
