Hate how racist everything has become, and how quickly it’s happened.

I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

It is frightening. But it’s not surprising- people are frustrated, they don’t like seeing their local area changed by an influx of people with very different behavioural norms and cultures that may be at odds with the values that most people hold. They like it even less when groups actively demand that established norms are changed țo accommodate new arrivals if it is perceived that it disadvantages the locals

Catname · 24/08/2025 22:27

It was always there, just waiting for an opportunity to show its face 😢

LavenderBlue19 · 24/08/2025 22:29

It's horrible. There must be a huge amount of money behind it - presumably the same money that got Trump into power.

I'm hoping very much that it's just summer madness, and when it starts raining next week they all crawl back into their holes. We are not a racist country.

Silverbirchleaf · 24/08/2025 22:31

But what does flying a flag, painting roundabouts achieve though? . Fear? Intimidation? I like living in Britain, but I’m not proud of these ‘British’ people at all.

Welfare migrants aren’t a race issue - except in London where the homes and services they take come straight from
the poor, who are mostly non-white.

If you cared about racism, you’d get how distressing it is to know Windrush families who took two jobs each see their grandchildren forced out of their hometown by lifelong workless asylum seekers… in the name of fairness.

Welfare migration is an insult to the once-immigrant working poor - who aren’t white.

What on earth are you talking about - “a huge amount of money behind it”? By who? What conspiracy theory is this?

Do you not think ordinary working class people are fed up seeing or hearing
news stories or reports of illegal men coming into the country and getting put up in 4 star hotels for free. Don’t forget the crimes that are being committed as well that the public actually get to know about.

Silvertulips · 24/08/2025 22:50

I think people want the government to sit up and listen This is been an issue for years - ow services are at an all time low and it’s being squeezed and the money to government are throwing at eh issue is changing the landscape.

People just want to be heard.

Pogoda · 24/08/2025 23:12

I am not on social media and don't even have TikTok, so I was intrigued to see a flag on one of the houses in our sleepy village. Then I browsed to find out what's going on and now I'm scratching my head, because this village is very white-British, Conservatives win big time every time, and the only immigrants I can hear here are a few Ukrainian mums with small kids on a school run. I'm a little dismayed now. Whose agenda is this...? It doesn't make any sense...

I think the real sadness is that so many people believe the reports of illegal men coming into the country and being put up in 4 star hotels. Or at least not understanding that it is hardly luxury to be housed in a former 4 star hotel, sharing the room with three or four other migrants.

If they really were 'illegal migrants', they would be under the radar as they wouldn't have been detected. Anyone housed in a hotel is either an economic migrant or an asylum seeker. In either case they are awaiting processing and very much known about. Since it is not possible to claim asylum here without being on British soil, the means by which they arrive is usually irregular (smuggled / small boat etc).

People have been whipped up into a frenzy if xenophobia and racism by endless crap on social media algorithms and GB News.

There is serious money behind this. You're being manipulated into hating.

okydokethen · 24/08/2025 23:19

It’s scary. We’re a hateful, drunk, entitled nation.

Rafting2022 · 24/08/2025 23:20

I’m so bored of hearing this ‘housed in 4 star hotels’ bullshit as if they’re all spending every day ordering room service, booking spa treatments and having afternoon tea on the croquet lawn.

Apply some critical thinking at least.

FatherFrosty · 24/08/2025 23:21

It’s Nigel cunting Farage making it ok to say racist stuff out loud

it’s not ok and I’m so embarrassed

lickycat · 24/08/2025 23:23

Completely agree OP. In the space of 15 years we’ve gone backwards 50.

BourgeoisBabe · 24/08/2025 23:26

It's horrendous. I dint know how it has happened so quickly. I fear for the future.

erm · 24/08/2025 23:27

I think it’s timing, the NHS is on its knees, people can hardly see a GP, schools are majorly underfunded, there’s a cost of living crisis where every week our shopping bill seems to be going up, then to top it all off all the illegal immigrants are allegedly crossing several countries and risking their lives crossing the channel to get to Britain as they see it as the land of milk and honey or benefits galore.

Coupled with the seemingly never ending social media stories of illegal Uber delivery drivers, HMO houses, men arriving to rape or women and children and you can see how easily and quickly the frenzy is being whipped up.

Personally, I think we do need tougher controls like Australian has, no entry into the country unless you can prove you have a job and X amount in the bank. Any committing a crime you’re deported. We take a limited amount of genuine asylum seekers each year similar to other EU countries. Send out the message you are more than welcome if you want to come here, contribute, work hard and join our multi-cultural society.

Morningsleepin · 24/08/2025 23:28

I don't know about England, but there an awful lot of bots on Facebook trying to whip up racism in Ireland. There is serious money involved

1000%

scary

AppleKatie · 24/08/2025 23:34

It feels similar to the social manipulation that occurred during Covid.

This isn’t a mad conspiracy theory- I believe in vaccines, covid was clearly a genuine public health emergency etc etc…

I mean the way attitudes are shifting, people are changing behaviour, aggressively challenging anyone who tries to break away from the ‘new norm’. It’s really genuinely frightening.

LivingWithANob · 24/08/2025 23:34

I wouldnt say its racist. I am not racist for saying - hang on it seems we cant support our own people in the uk (police/housing/healthcare etc), how can we keep springing money out for housing these people. It feels to me there is no plan and its just out of control. Im allowed an opinion on all this without being called racist.

Toothfairyat230 · 24/08/2025 23:38

I don’t think this is motivated by racism.
Are you aware that the current increase in flag displaying is in response to a council in Birmingham who’d been taking them down.
It’s just rebellious flag waving.

where are you seeing this behaviour?

The Covid messaging was obviously coordinated by governments. I'm completely open minded on whatever you have to say by the way.

Don’t be ridiculous. A hateful, drunk nation? I’ve heard it all now.

Buxusmortus · 24/08/2025 23:41

I think the issue is that when times are good, people don't generally have such a problem with immigrants as when times are hard, as they are now. I also think these days it's become socially acceptable in some demographics to speak out loud about the issue whereas previously people may have thought the thoughts but kept them to themselves.

When you experience delays in basic health care like seeing a GP or specialist, huge waiting lists and constantly being told that there isn't money available for the NHS, schools, police force etc, it sticks in the craw when people arrive on boats, who could easily have sought asylum in France, Italy or Greece, turn up and are housed, fed, given phones etc without having to lift a finger. These people aren't generally families, they're young men who are mostly not fleeing a tyrannical regime, they just think they'll have an easier life in Britain with more money.

That doesn't go down well with British citizens who live here and are struggling. People are frustrated because the government seems unwilling to do much about it, but other countries such as Australia are much more stringent.
