Be honest; if you’re a tall woman do you consider yourself superior to shorter women?

I know a few tall women who refer to shorter women as things like ‘short arses’ and I’ve seen the same thing said by taller women on the Style and Beauty boards here, too.

I’m 5ft 4, so am short myself, and have had derogatory comments made to me in the past by a few tall females. Yet I’d never dream of calling them an insulting name about being tall, or even really comment on their height at all.

I’m not quite sure why everyone thinks life is much harder for tall women though? Models are all tall… the social epitome of beauty that’s lauded around the world as the ideal. They’re all 5’8+ so I’m not sure why we’re all acting like tall women don’t have representation within beauty standards.

Very very few tall women are models or look like models though.

Lots of men don't want to be in a relationship with a women, who is as tall or taller than them.

Ironically I was a model at 5'2 back in the day. Not catwalk though.

Because in real life most men prefer women to be shorter than them I guess -

I’d agree a tallish slim woman is the western ideal, but only if she is tallish not over tall, or heavily built etc.

CaptainSevenofNine · 08/08/2025 19:23

WTAF? No! I consider myself taller. That’s all. My Mum was 5’4 (the average height for a woman in the UK)

I always was very jealous of shorter women, I was taller than 70% of the boys at school and they all preferred the petite girls.

Same.

olivo · 08/08/2025 19:24

Quick question…why do people use the word short as opposed to small? All 5 feet 2 of me hates the word short….. surely the opposite of tall is small, whereas short is the opposite of long?

I’d also hate to think my taller friends and colleagues looked down on me ☹️

RelaxedOddish · 08/08/2025 19:24

No, I just feel like a lanky giraffe when around people shorter than me. Which is a lot of people as I am 5'8. I envy shorter women. Smaller feet, can wear trousers /jeans / tracksuit bottoms without them being too short. Able to wear tops that don't sit too short and coats /tops that's sleeves aren't too short. Also, fitting into smaller size clothes while I have to size up due to a bigger frame.

minnieot · 08/08/2025 19:24

You’re not short, you’re smack bang average

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 08/08/2025 19:25

Eyelinerofthetigers · 08/08/2025 18:40

I think you’re the jealous one! I didn’t say anywhere that I was demure, refined or delicate.

take a look on some threads on Style and Beauty about getting clothes in longer length and you’ll see derogatory comments right there

You’re so much more demure-er than them other ladies… Why you wouldn’t dream of saying anything mean about anyone.

The opposite of small is big. And tall women definitely don't want to be called big.

I know lots of tall women- all are in relationships. I find this as bizarre as saying men dont want "fat women". Men arent some monolith who only like one type of woman

bookworm14 · 08/08/2025 19:26

No? How weird.

olivo · 08/08/2025 19:27

Commisarysushi, I absolutely agree. In the same way I prefer to be referred to as small, not short!

HP304 · 08/08/2025 19:27

I’m the same height as OP and consider it to be an average height - not short at all! Why would anyone comment?

Because small i would more see as talking about weight as tall and short is height

fallingandlaughing · 08/08/2025 19:28

No, I don't. I'm 6'1".
I do find a lot of smaller women make weird comments about my height though.
I don't consider 5'4" very short. Average, surely.

I didn't say they were a monolith.

I am 6 feet tall and know lots of tall women. We are all in relationships, but we've also had lots of experience of being rejected for being too tall. Different experiences, I guess.

TheWibble · 08/08/2025 19:30

Where di you get the idea from that you're short? You're not at all, you're average height for a woman in the UK. I'm the same height as you and have never had derogatory comments about my height. I think this is a you problem.

MaidOfSteel · 08/08/2025 19:32

I don’t think like that about shorter women. In fact, I’m rather envious. I’d love to be petite. I hate being tall and I feel this way at 5ft7!

If you are all in relationships then I dont get your assertion that men wont date tall women?!

If this were true then no tall women would ever be in relationships and all short women would be successfully coupled up which clearly they arent....

PigFan · 08/08/2025 19:33

I’m 4’ 10” and never had anyone comment negatively on my height. I’ve had friendly teasing that I’ve not minded one jot. I’ve never read any negative comments on here either.

I do envy a tall people for their ability to eat a normal amount and not put on weight. I sniff a Mars bar and I’m instantly 2lbs heavier! Woe.

WarrenTofficier · 08/08/2025 19:33

As a tall girl I got 'Mummy long legs, What's the weather like up there? Lanky, lamppost, freak, bloke in disguise' where as my small friend got 'good things come in small packages.'

JLou08 · 08/08/2025 19:35

I've never known anyone be derogatory about short women. I have heard some negative comments about tall women. I'd say outside of high end modeling shorter women are probably viewed more favourably. I say this as an average height woman with no bias.
