Leave the TV on standby? As in if you know you're not going to be using it again for the next few hours / days do you switch it off via remote control or do you switch off the actual plug?

standby even overnight as it records stuff

MiddleAgedDread · 30/07/2025 11:21

Always on standby because it's on the same plug sockets as the wifi!
my parents always turn theirs off at the wall.

SabrinaThwaite · 30/07/2025 11:23

On standby. If away for a few days then I switch it off at the wall.

It uses so little power on standby - works out at about 4kwh for the entire year.

KnickerlessParsons · 30/07/2025 11:23

Bit of both here.

PinkFlOId · 30/07/2025 11:23

Plug off, sometimes forget though

SafeAndStranded · 30/07/2025 11:23

Standby. There's no way I'm digging down the back of the tv cabinet every night to get to the plug.

toastandegg · 30/07/2025 11:24

Standby, even if I go on holiday

tinyspiny · 30/07/2025 11:24

We just use the remote

Radioundermypillow · 30/07/2025 11:24

Standby. The plug is too hard to access easily.

PrincessofHyrule · 30/07/2025 11:24

Not sure I could even find the plug - its behind another cabinet and many wires. So always on standby

caringcarer · 30/07/2025 11:24

Turned off. I don't watch much TV.

ReplaceTheLinen · 30/07/2025 11:25

Switched off at the wall. We only use it in the evenings for the most part.

Latenightreader · 30/07/2025 11:26

Switched off at the wall every night and if we go out. It is only usually left on standby if we are likely to be using it in the next couple of hours.

Venalopolos · 30/07/2025 11:27

Only the guest bedroom TV gets turned off at the plug, but it’s a WiFi plug so we can turn it on and off from our phones. No other TV gets turned off at the plug, mostly because the plugs aren’t easily accessible.

Hardlyworking · 30/07/2025 11:29

On standby 24/7 365. For the sake of approx. 60p a year saving I'm not constantly rooting around for the plug. I'm frugal but that's ridiculous!

CurlsLDN · 30/07/2025 11:29

Never occurred to me that people are routinely switching it off at the wall! I just click on and off with the remote

Unicorn34 · 30/07/2025 11:29

Off by the remote but not unplugged. My husband is a retired firefighter and there's not much we are allowed to leave on.

Strollingby · 30/07/2025 11:31

Switch off using button on TV. Only on standby if coming back to it in an hour or two.

Onlyinthrees · 30/07/2025 11:31

Off at the wall, but I have OCD.

gamerchick · 30/07/2025 11:32

I unplug it at night. It would be a pain to keep doing it during the day though.

DinaofCloud9 · 30/07/2025 11:34

Standby

Depends on the telly. If you go over 55 inches, stand by costs more, as does general running of the thing.

irregularegular · 30/07/2025 11:35

We have the tv socket on a timer. It's on 6pm to midnight. Not entirely sure why. It's a DH thing.

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 30/07/2025 11:36

Just remote, have never switched it off at the wall and didn’t realise that was a thing!

DramaAlpaca · 30/07/2025 11:36

We turn ours off with the remote. It's only ever turned off at the wall if the Sky box needs rebooting.
