Am I "tiny"?

I'm not. I've always thiigh of mysefl as a normal healthy build. In a world where a majority are over weight , I'm not that, but I don't think I'm exceptionally thin either.

I've just been for my NHS health check. A bit of a waste of time really, but I hadn't had my cholesterol checked for a while, so I went when I was invited.

I was weight and measured. 5'7", 10st1 in my clothes and 75cm waist. At both my weight and my waist the HCA explained "ooh you're tiny".

Don’t worry, I’m sure someone will be along to proclaim “we’ve lost sight of what is a healthy weight” soon.

Why does it matter what she said?

TheOliveFinch · 25/07/2025 17:14

A bit of a strange thing for them to say you are a perfectly normal BMI but not tiny

SilenceInside · 25/07/2025 17:15

No, not tiny. In the middle ish of the healthy weight range for your height. Perhaps their perception is skewed by the fact that about two thirds of the UK adult population is overweight or obese.

Your BMI is about 22 so that’s very healthy and not underweight according thre NHS BMI calculator…

35965a · 25/07/2025 17:17

Is this a thinly veiled fat bashing thread? It’ll attract all the ‘we’ve lost sight of a healthy weight, I am 5’8 and weigh 6 stone and I’m perfectly normal sized, anyone heavier than 7 stone is morbidly obese’ brigade.

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/07/2025 17:22

You arent much smaller than me. Maybe like 4 or 5 pounds. And I am most definitely not tiny!

On a side note what did the dr say about your cholesterol. Everyone i know including myself whos had this over 40 health check thing has been told their cholesterol is high. I was given a leaflet of what foods to avoid only to discover minus eggs ( which i mostly just have egg whites anyway ), i basically ate nothing on the list 🤔

Where you mysteriously high too despite being a healthy weight etc

CopperWhite · 25/07/2025 17:25

No, you’re not tiny.

But then I’m a similar size to you and have also been called tiny on occasion, but only ever by people who are very much not tiny and are clearly projecting their own weight related perceptions and issues.

KittenyChops · 25/07/2025 17:28

I’m 5 ft 3, 9 stone 7 and waist of 74cm. Feeling quite smug now that I ‘might’ be tiny 🤣 and super smug that at 53, my cholesterol levels were perfectly normal after this GP health check thingy

It seems important to you that you’re perceived as tiny…

I'm 5'4 but same measurements as you, quietly patting myself on the back here too 🤣🤣

What? No someone else, a HCP, called me tiny. It's never occurred to me, ever, that I might be.

Teeny tiny, yes.

I'm 55 and my cholesterol was 3.4, which is well within the normal range. Which surprised me, as I basically live on cheese 🤣

Well objectively I would say no, you're not tiny, you are above average height for a woman and a healthy weight, perhaps your HCP had seen bigger people all day.
I don't think you have anything to worry about in that sense.

Honeydewmelon123 · 25/07/2025 17:34

From a dietitian here, your BMI is 22.1Kg/m2 which is healthy. It’s a bit of a subjective comment, and actually not really professional.
The HCA could say this to the wrong person (with an eating disorder for example) and this could cause a lot of issues.

doodleschnoodle · 25/07/2025 17:35

I am a similar BMI, 21, and 5ft 4 and am definitely not tiny! I think I look pretty average for someone of a healthy weight, not really worthy of any exclamations of any kind, I’m an average height. Very weird! Maybe it’s just something she says to people who are slim 🤷‍♀️

You're huuuuge.

Maryberrysaga · 25/07/2025 17:37

I’m the same height and weight and waist size. There are no circumstances under which I could be described as “tiny”.

Of course it is

cheesycheesy · 25/07/2025 17:38

You’ll be skipping along on that compliment for weeks

Slimagain · 25/07/2025 17:41

As someone who was definitely morbidly obese. (BMI 41) who is now BMI 22 (thanks to the miracle that is MJ) I understand your feelings as a get the. ‘OMG you’re tiny’ .. when in reality I’m nothing of the sort. I’m smack bang in the middle of healthy . I think they really mean you have lost lots of weight .

However I will bite and say that yes people don’t really know what healthy is. A bit like feeling hungry . People are not used to listening to their bodies and allowing them to signal when they are actually in need of food - they eat when they are not hungry - for a whole host of complicated reasons .

No, you’re not tiny. Far from it.
