Is there a serial killer in the UK?

I don't know what to think. It is social media, after all. But . . .

I've seen quite a few TikTok videos recently, all listing a large number of female deaths, all being found in or near a body of water (river, canal, lake). And all ruled as "not suspicious" by the police, even before toxicology reports have been released (if they are even released).

The first video I saw listed 14 women over a period of 30 months, but some comments were saying that there have been other deaths which haven't been reported on. Other videos mention different women.

These deaths are over the country, leading to speculation that it could be a lorry driver.

Does it seem likely, or is this the latest SM scare?

I haven't seen this on Tik Tok or heard about the numbers / cases you are stating, but there being a SK lurking somewhere in the UK - statistically I imagine that it's very likely.

CallMeFlo · 24/07/2025 12:41

Stop it. Its the latest sad act Tik tokers who have nothing better to do with themselves.

What these armchair detectives forget is for one thing the police will be privvy to so much more information than they release to the public.

I know of one case that there was 100% undeniable evidence that there was no other person involved in the person's death but the keyboard warriors were blasting the police for their search tactics and for saying nothing suspicious when the body was recovered.

The 2 sisters from Aberdeen who were found in the river are counted in the figures despite the fact they were seen on the bridge in the days leading up to their deaths and they told their landlord they no longer needed their flat.

On Tiktok EVERYTHING is a conspiracy.

LordEmsworth · 24/07/2025 12:44

Are you seriously saying that you believe the police are deliberately covering up a serial killer, because Tik Tok told you so? Maybe you would benefit from a little social media detox?

I agree. There were rumours around the time of the Moors murderers. My parents lived in the area at the time and there were many rumours and they were ridiculed by the “we live in a safe area” people, people said it was silly and we’re safe and ditto the cannibal killer
in London.

AlexandraJJ · 24/07/2025 12:49

It’s either being reported more rigorously or there is in an increase in these type of tragedies. I’d never really heard of such and so often until a few years ago. I darent say what crossed my mind as it sounds crazy even in my own head. I don’t use TikTok so no idea what’s being put out there 😬

murasaki · 24/07/2025 12:50

0f course not. There is a rise in the reporting of women with mental health issues who are choosing drowning as a way out. It is tragic and needs looking into, but it isn't a serial killer.

ChompandaGrazia · 24/07/2025 12:51

Possibly but then think very carefully before you take TikTok to be a news source. There was a woman killed near me and that this time there was stuff all over SM saying it was illegal immigrants.

bookworm1982 · 24/07/2025 12:51

Getting your information from Tik Tok 🤣 ffs, this world today 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rallentanda · 24/07/2025 12:53

Good grief. TikTok. I don't know what to say.

Put the phone down, OP.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 24/07/2025 12:55

This sort of stuff is so disrespectful to those women who have lost their lives and downright cruel to their families. People should be ashamed of themselves making others’ deaths into entertainment to elevate their own social media profiles.

IberianBlackout · 24/07/2025 12:56

I’ve probably seen the same tt.

I think it makes sense, it’s just probable isn’t it? Same goes for anywhere else.

RepoTheGeriatricOpera · 24/07/2025 12:58

There's a crossover between those obsessed with true crime, and those who are chronically online.

Sadly those who fall into the two categories find conspiracies in everything, and often post the online with no regard for facts, or the families who are suffering.

Foolsgold74 · 24/07/2025 12:58

Some (most) of the people commenting on SM clearly haven't got 2 brain cells to rub together. With all the cctv and home cameras around, it's much easier to track people's whereabouts now. In the latest tragedy in Cheshire, the police will have been able to trace her movements and see that she was alone right until the end. There are houses, a train station and businesses around there that will show that she was alone. I'm not saying there couldn't be nefarious forces driving her to do what she did (I have no idea, I'm just saying) but the chances of there being someone else with her at the time are slim to none.

No. I'm really not. I actually said I don't know what to think and that I am aware that it is social media, and that it could be the latest SM scare.

Utterly agree. It is disgusting.

myplace · 24/07/2025 13:02

A few years ago it was all about the Manchester canal killer that targeted young gay men.

There will always be blobs in data, and the media will always report on what interests people, social media will drive more content that you pay attention to. So this is a self fulfilling situation, created by you.

However there will be active serial killers in the uk. Obviously. As well as a far higher number of men with poor impulse control killing women fairly regularly who are far more of a risk to an average woman than a serial killer.

Port1aCastis · 24/07/2025 13:03

Discussing someone's sad death on Tik Tok is awful, how on earth would the deceased person's family feel if they came across their relatives death being mulled over on tik tok
Sick and Sad

SilverHammer · 24/07/2025 13:04

I would stop using TikTok as your point of reference for a start.

XXLfiles · 24/07/2025 13:06

I saw tiktoks which said that we shouldn't drink water.... Like at all...
🤷

Madcatdudette · 24/07/2025 13:06

I don’t think that the current facts demonstrate a real concern about a serial killer being on the loose.
Probably more likely that these people have taken their own lives but autopsies will confirm

Drowning doesn't seem a logical decision so I can see why it's rasing suspicion though. I can understand combined with an overdose, but if done as a stand alone thing it's a horrific way and hard to imagine why someone would choose it over other options?

Octavia64 · 24/07/2025 13:08

There are 10,000 deaths each week in the U.K.

obviously many of them will be completely expected and in situations that are explained.

in the circumstances 14 deaths over a matter of months near rivers seems a very low amount.

i expect there is a serial killer currently in the UK though - there usually is. Lots of people who
kill kill multiple times before it’s noticed.

Venalopolos · 24/07/2025 13:11

Interesting you say this as I’m not on TikTok, and hadn’t seen anything on social media but had said to DH a few months ago that it felt like there were an inordinate number of middle aged women going missing and being found in and around water and no one seemed to be connecting the cases - maybe because there was no dots to join, but it definitely felt like a pattern. Police forces are also quite disjointed so it’s not unbelievable they might miss the connection between cases all across the country.

However I do trust the families would be shouting if they didn’t think suicide / accident was likely that would cause someone to link the cases, but I did think it was an interesting observation at least.

WooleyMunky · 24/07/2025 13:12

UK Serial killer in this day and age? DNA profiling, Ring doorbell cameras, and dashcams? Location tracking on every device?
You couldn't kill one particular type of victim for long without it raising some major red flags that even the thick as shit Dibble that the UK has would eventually spot something.

Superhansrantowindsor · 24/07/2025 13:13

Speculation like this is really not good and probably quite distressing.
