Well, John Torode has now been sacked too.
Who should take over?

It was an amazing reboot following Loyd. Should it be scrapped?

I actually really like Camillas son - forgotten his name 🤣
Definitely not James Martin, Jamie or a woman who's name I can't remember either 🤣 not Anna the Irish one, but not her either.
Marcus absolutely.

I don't want it to change

Same.
Its one of the few shows which haven't been turned into some kind of 'reality tv' thing. Just minimal info and lots of cooking! A competition.

My favourite bit has always been when they walk in and have to do the on the spot cooking test. Can you cook this ? Yes/no and here's 20 mins to show us.

I don't want the show twisted into some kind of fly on the wall seeing them buggering about in their own restaurants thanks.

Bobblebiscuits296 · 16/07/2025 13:47

i believe that Nadiya H has posted a video saying that the BBC wanted her to resign for mh reasons (which they asked John Torode to do too) and like him, she refused because she said it would be a lie. The truth was that she has spoken out about political issues and that proved uncomfortable for the BBC.

I don’t know how other media outlets handle this? If you are employing presenters from a wide mix of cultural backgrounds or who have different sexual orientations, or different ages, or differing physical abilities and disabilities (all of which is very good imho) then you can’t expect them to be completely void of personal opinions in their private lives can you? Not unless you employ a piece of carboard to do a presenting job?

I am very much a supporter of the BBC but I think the way they apply their policies are a bit bat shit! They sack perfectly decent people like Nadiya H and Michel Roux for apparent breaches of policy while harbouring perverts like Greg W and Hugh Edwards! Obviously they took action with the latter two eventually but how long had they known about them?

Also, people like Chris Packham have very strong views aired off screen. But that’s ok apparently bc they align with BBC views? He certainly doesn’t represent neutrality is my point.

It’s all an extremely confused picture, How about they simplify things and allow presenters to express what they like (if legal) outside of programmes, sack them when they do something illegal on set, and have an independent panel made up of licence payers to adjudicate when the situation isn’t clear?

Gary Lineka (sp?) is another one fallen foul of having an opinion isn't he?

Agree with op - they throwing the babies out with the bath water now!

PeonyPatch · 16/07/2025 14:18

I agree with this headline

Gary posted a pro Palestinian pic without checking its origins. Thats a very different thing to sexually harassing your colleagues.

Qoopwhooping · 16/07/2025 14:55

Yes I think Torode was taken down with Wallace. Having said that, perhaps some of the reason Torode had to go, was knowing what Wallace was on with but not blowing the whistle on him.

OrangeAndPistachio · 16/07/2025 14:56

Si King would be great , as would Andi Oliver or Grace dent. A previous master chef winner would be a good call too if they can find the right fit.

I feel like Monica probably wouldn't do any more than the professionals series as she has her own restaurant to run. Didnt she even step away from the professionals for a series to be around for her staff more?

Beefstew · 16/07/2025 15:40

Angela Hartnett and Chris Bavin were really good together on Homecook of the year
Or
Colin Fassnige from My Kitchen Rules and Lisa Allen ,

True I guess, but I feel the organisation has shirked responsibility as well!!

I agree!

Posting a picture in your private time, which you haven't checked the credentials of and which is unrelated to your job, gets you sacked now.

BBC is now disappearing up its own arse IMO.

He shared a notorious anti-Semitic trope. And then pretended he didn't know about it/hadn't noticed/not me guv.

Gowlett · 16/07/2025 18:58

John’s wife had said something about Gregg Wallace.
He was pissed off JT didn’t come out in support of him.

I love Alex! In fact, if I wasn’t a heterosexual woman, I would want to marry Alex! 😆

You’d have to get past this heterosexual woman first!

I suspect there is more to it than this.

Twenty years ago I was told by two separate BBC camera operators that Gary Lineker was an extremely unpleasant individual. Neither had any reason to lie, it was just part of a general conversation on who was nice to work with and who wasn't.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 16/07/2025 23:28

Bobblebiscuits296 · 16/07/2025 09:43

Apparently! It was all very strange as I think Gary Linekar was advertising crisps at the time! I miss Michel Roux!

Please not Matt Tebbutt who has the charisma of a cardboard box imho.

I love Monica!

But really I think they need to scrap the entire show, and stop flogging the format to death. We have seen enough of it.

Why not follow eight young chefs in their first year of attempting to run their own restaurant? Bring in mentors to advise. Make it supportive. Have a “tester” who goes in and films undercover during their meal. Have out-take sections in the programme where a chef like Monica helps them design a dish, source the best ingredients, cook it and cost it?

Edited

That's been done and wasn't repeated. I think Marcus might have been the presenter.

loveyouradvice · 17/07/2025 08:03

Agree - leave the professionals alone - I think Monica and Marcus are the perfect team!

I would adore Si King and Grace Dent - think it would be genuinely exciting interesting and fun. Hope they chose these two as a pair!

loveyouradvice · 17/07/2025 08:04

ps I have always loathed Greg, and never liked John Torode.... I watched it despite them, and always wondered why they lasted so long

FurForksSake · 17/07/2025 08:24

I can just imagine gregg reading this and seething about the missing g.

MissyB1 · 17/07/2025 08:41

Never liked Greg (with or without his extra g), but I dont mind John T. I've watched John live a couple of times at our local food festival, hes surprisingly entertaining.

for the record re: Gary Lineka i have zero actual interest in him or football!
Interesting to hear about him from better informed posters than myself 👍

BigFatLiar · 17/07/2025 15:07

I'm not a chef but believe that professional kitchens have a bad reputation for casual sexism, racism, drug use etc. It may be trying to clean up its image but I suspect most professional chefs have some 'banter' in their backstory which considering how touchy the BBC is would really make them ineligible.

RoseTulips2023 · 18/07/2025 18:31

Angela Hartnett and Nik Grimshaw would be great together if their Dish podcast is anything to go by.

awaynboilyurheid · 18/07/2025 18:35

Can’t stand Grace Dent miserable looking woman, and never watched it when Greg Wallace was on as I always thought him weird.
Really hope it’s Nadia be good with Si king but yes Angela and Nick Grimshaw is a really good shout too!

OrangeAndPistachio · 18/07/2025 18:41

@awaynboilyurheid yeah , women really should smile more shouldn't they? It lights up their pretty little faces.
