Paul Ainsworth has a good nice/nasty thing going on. He's smiley and pleasant but VERY serious about the food. Very exacting. I imagine he doesn't take fools and would be a good strict judge. I think you need one strict/scary judge and one softer taster alongside.

Only thing is i don't think he'd do it. He's often too busy to even do both the days required on GBM.

I think if they rejigged the format a bit he'd make a lovely, supportive host. Could go round and chat encouragingly to the contestants.

Then have a separate pair for judging, Monica, Jay, Andi, Grace or whoever.

Do you think they might tweak the format? Other Masterchef shows around the world have mostly quite a different and more game showish approach. I don't think I'd like that much.

Also, not Gordon Ramsey or anyone shouty.

Local to me cookery writer Bee Wilson - who was on the original Masterchef - would be good to see as an occasional guest.

That would work well. Good cop bad cop. Monica comes across as stern but I do absolutely love her. Si appears to be just lovely (as did Dave). I wonder if he'd have it in him to judge. I reckon he could.

@EmptyHandleslooks like someone’s managed to scrub a lot from the internet, I’m sure it was in some of the papers at the time, if I remember correctly his girlfriend had accused him of having a temper, I really can’t remember the details and of course we don’t know if they were true but I’ve just had him as a wrongun in my head since then.

But really I think they need to scrap the entire show, and stop flogging the format to death. We have seen enough of it.

Why not follow eight young chefs in their first year of attempting to run their own restaurant? Bring in mentors to advise. Make it supportive. Have a “tester” who goes in and films undercover during their meal. Have out-take sections in the programme where a chef like Monica helps them design a dish, source the best ingredients, cook it and cost it?
