Anyone have any idea how I can stop my neighbour from doing this when I have already tried talking to him?

My neighbour keeps doing something and it's got to the point where he's actually doing my head in now because he doesn't need to be doing it and two he won't explain why he is.. I have spoken to him but it's still happening..

Family came round to my flat once and knocked on the door, As I was walking down the stairs to answer I heard my neighbour come out of his flat and say 'She never answers her door can I give her a message?' Thought it was odd as I opened the door but didn't really think anything of it, Until it happened again. Basically if he ever sees anyone knock at my door he will go out and tell them I never answer the door.. I do answer the door and I'm not sure why he thinks I don't so I spoke to him about it and he refused to talk to me about it and closed his door.

Now over the last month I have not been getting any parcels delivered, ALL of them have been delivered to neighbour, I have never ticked the box to say deliver to neighbour and I am always in as I work from home, I just get notification that parcels have been delivered then when I check he has them.

Managed to catch dpd driver today handing neighbour my parcel so I asked in front of neighbour why he keeps delivering my stuff to my neighbour when I'm at home and he's not even knocking on my door, dpd guy said my neighbour always comes out and either tells him i'm not in or I never answer the door.

Anyone have any ideas on how to stop my neighbour from saying this? It's gone passed being strange for me and it's now starting to piss me off. I have lived here with zero issues for ten years, he moved in a year ago. We live in flats but each have our own front doors so I have no idea why he is even near mine at all to be doing this in the first place, it's not a communal entrance.

for the record I do answer my door when people knock and I have no idea why he thinks i don't.. It's at the point now where family think I'm not in and don't bother knocking sometimes..

I would tell him that they next time he does this and doesn’t bring the parcel straight round to you, you will report him to the police for theft.

Otherwise, change the wording for your orders to something IN CAPS about not leaving parcels with next door.

And put a a sign on the door.

i have tried a few different ones but unfortauntely I can't get a connection to any of them, the wif doesn't seem to reach down my stairs. i wish I could have one because it would solve this isuue

Get a WiFi booster then.
Something like a tlink

BBQBertha · 04/07/2025 08:54

I’d report every single one as missing or a misdelivery by the delivery company. The driver shouldn’t be giving parcels to him without trying you first.

Here’s an idea: go speak to him and ask why the FUCK he keeps intercepting parcels and talking shite about you never answering the door! Use your words.

This. Have someone with you to witness.

Bettysnow · 04/07/2025 09:07

I would start sending multiple parcels to yourself filled with fish or something else that will stink after a few days then don't collect them

Genevieva · 04/07/2025 09:09

When you order something it often ask for additional instructions. Some postal services, such as Amazon, record this permanently. Put a note saying please deliver to the correct address and do not allow the neighbour to intercept your parcel.

Also, get a Wi-Fi booster to improve the connection near your front door so that you can use the Ring doorbell feature. I imagine your neighbour has it, which is how he knows when you have deliveries.

@MrsSkylerWhite 's suggestion is sound, but NOT using the quote as the OP already said in her thread title, read it why dont you? that she'd spoken to the neighbour.

FFS.

As the thread gets more traction today they'll be loads of posters giving you a telling off for your lack of reading comprehension

Best put your hard had on

How can people complain about a lack of reading skills when they haven’t read the apology?

I took that quote to mean that she needs to go again and be much more forceful. Hence suggestion of a witness.

There are a relatively small number of courier companies that deliver the vast majority of parcels in the U.K. - Royal Mail, Evri, DPD, DHL and UPS cover probably 99%. I agree with adding delivery instructions wherever you can NOT to deliver to anyone else but sometimes you don’t have a free text box that allows this and it wouldn’t be possible for you to do this for anything someone else sent to you. I would suggest contacting the key courier companies since there aren’t that many and seeing if there is a way of putting a standing instruction / marker for your address - it wouldn’t surprise me if there is this possibility as you won’t be the first person who has a neighbour issue.

Harassedevictee · 04/07/2025 09:11

I would be writing him a firm letter asking him to stop intercepting your mail and lying to callers/visitors by incorrectly stating you are not in. If this continues a cease and desist letter is the next step.

I would also be asking visitors, particularly family, to text or phone when they arrive so they don’t need to use the doorbell.

Myrobalanna · 04/07/2025 09:11

Does he do this with other neighbours, or just you?

I only ask because I've had one of those neighbours who likes to 'be useful' but of course causes far more complicated disruptions by inserting themselves into neighbours' business. She just wanted to be appreciated, I think. It's completely unreasonable and weird.

Leaving an instruction for delivery companies on each of their accounts should work (curse the small number of characters allowed) but if you also leave an actual note for them, it needs to be at the point of entry into the building as he's stopping people even getting to your door. And then, he can simply remove it if he wants to.

Alternatively, use a parcel pick-up point? A faff, I know. But then tell him you are doing it because of him, and you are also warning all visitors to your door that they should ignore him. He should get the hint if you put a clear plan in place? It sounds like he has mental health issues (as so many bizarre-o neighbours do) so best to work around him IMO.

It literally says in the OP that they've already done this...

And Cherrysoup has literally noted that fact in another post and apologised. So why go on about it?

marcopront · 04/07/2025 09:15

@zingerdoot

. It's at the point now where family think I'm not in and don't bother knocking sometimes..

If you family knows he does this why don’t they just ignore him?

Theseventhmagpie · 04/07/2025 09:16

ninjahamster · 03/07/2025 22:45

Is he maybe looking for excuses to talk to you? He takes in parcels, you have to go round to collect them. He tells family you are out and he will pass on a message, he comes to pass it on… creepy…

This.
His behaviour would concern me sufficiently to consider a report to the police, but I would warn him verbally and in writing first of your intention to do this if he persists with this behaviour.

I'd also tell family to not just ignore him, but to actively and assertively tell him to "go away", stop lying to people and mind his own business.

I mean, presumably, when a family member is coming to visit as arranged, and creepy neighbour comes out to claim that OP never answers her door, they surely don't just take his word for it and go away again?!

Does he always tell his lie and leave promptly, or does he ever stick around for a few moments until OP does indeed answer her door, and then he's left there clearly looking like the boorish liar that he is?

Even if he were telling the truth, if she doesn't tend to answer her door, why would anybody accept it as an absolute fact that she genuinely never uses her door?

Yes, I’m very surprised family would even consider believing this neighbour. OP’s family need to be telling him to keep his nose out of OP’s business. If he feels that OP has got some support it might scare him off.

k1233 · 04/07/2025 09:31

In your delivery instructions put you will be in and to disregard neighbour who says you don't answer the door or are out. They are NOT to deliver the parcel to the neighbour. They do not have your permission to do so.

Tell family to text you when they arrive. You are home and will come down. They are not to listen to the neighbour.

Do everything you can to cut him out of the communication loop and stop people speaking to him.

VirginaGirl · 04/07/2025 09:35

What an absolute weirdo.

I think there are some great ideas here.

I might also tell all my family and friends to text me when they arrive. I would also put a note on everything I order asking the delivery driver to either text or call me when they arrive with my delivery.

Hopefully, pretty soon everyone who visits your house socially or with mail will get the message.

Topsyturvy78 · 04/07/2025 09:35

Buy a WiFi extender? Is there a socket closer to the door?

VirginaGirl · 04/07/2025 09:36

Sorry x-post with @k1233 !

ALPS100 · 04/07/2025 09:37

Why are people suggesting putting a note - sorry, a laminated note 😂- on OP's door saying not to give parcel's to nutty neighbour??

He will OBVIOUSLY just remove it! And as there is no doorbell camera, they'll be no proof of him doing this

Yeah, I thought this!

Are you logging all these instances OP? It'll help if you end up involving the police.

Where's the laughing emoji response when you need it 😂

So what if he doesn't get a lot of visitors - how does that apply to his weird behaviour of telling OP's friends/family that she doesn't answer the door??

And anyway, that is his problem, why should a woman sort out a man's loneliness? (presuming OP is female)

And also, if he is lonely, he would be on the look out for OP coming home to leap out and give her her parcels and have a conversation, not wait with them in his home until she has to knock and ask for them!
