Why is everyone so angry at Labour?

18thday · 02/07/2025 19:29

From what I understand they tried to cut (essential) benefits and put the money somewhere else. And what happened was labour MPs got angry, threat of resulting poverty in the population etc. So labour backtracked.

My questions are

  1. they backtracked so doesnt that mean they get it?

B) weren't they trying to find money to fill a hole that must be filled?

C) How else could have they raised the money? High taxed- bad people get very annoyed NHS cant handle more cuts.

I'm guessing they thought that forcing people off benefits would stimulate the economy by forcing people 'back into work'.

Well i hope youve contacted the dvla. Its not debilitating if you can get on with it in medical terms that would be classed as mild

Yeah but thats not my full medical history now is it?

You dont have to attack the person, attack the argument :)

Because they are trashing the economy and people are losing their jobs? The hospitality industry is on its knees? Their main ‘successes’ have been introducing legislation legalising killing terminally ill people and unwanted very nearly full term healthy babies. And making old people cold till they were forced to change. Failing to tackle immigration while making comments worryingly close to Enoch powell’s ‘rivers of blood’. The bond market is looking shaky. They’ve failed to tackle the vast amount of people on benefits / threatened to take benefits depending on your view point.

Guessing you have a very short memory of the previous government?

Also, educate yourself. The assisted dying bill is not about 'killing terminally ill people, it's about giving people with a terminal illness the right to choose a time and place of death.

You dont understand what I have. How can you? Do you think I'll lay out my medical history for you in this post.

Im saying the majority of PIP goes to depression and anxiety. ADHD gets a big chunk. People just take PIP and check out

Why have you created a thread just to spout misinformation and lies

I cannot afford that it's currently around £2000 pip would pay for that and under the current guidelines he would get it with ease now its uncertain i need to start saving now for several years time

You see? You have to find 2 grand so you're incentivised to work more. If they take 2 grand off the tax payer they are incentives to work less.

Reduce benefits, and everyone works harder, the economy grows.

justkeepswimingswiming · 02/07/2025 20:30

@18thday panic attacks while driving? If it was serious you wouldnt be able to drive. Bollocks. Just trying to make people look bad you dont even understand that PIP recipients work.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/07/2025 20:31

No idea. It took on an appalling mess which will take years to turn around. Anyone expecting significant positive change so quickly is very unrealistic.

justkeepswimingswiming · 02/07/2025 20:32

Someones a troll. You have no idea of actual figures for pip why are you spreading misinformation?

Bridport · 02/07/2025 20:32

My brother is crippled with ill health and spends months at a time bed bound. He has long term mental and physical disabilities that mean he will never be able to work. Despite his obvious inability to ever work he has to reapply for PIP on a regular basis. It's a complex and fraught process.

He always fails on the first attempt because of some technicality. Then a period of waiting where the family all worry how on earth he will cope. Then the technically is sorted and after months of uncertainty and fear the PIP is reinstated.

Anyone making out that PIP is easy to come by hasn't been through it.

That's incorrect.

They fucked up last September when they appeased their base with ridiculous pay rises.

Theybthought this would buy loyalty from Teachers and other public sector workers without realising that today’s world is every man for themselves and theyll have a hand out the next year regardless of the past.

They are either career politicians or champagne socialists, and worse their maths don’t work.

I thought they’d be better than the Tories, and I write as a lifelong Tory voter. Their majority meant they could do good when the majority thought they would.

such a wasted opportunity.

tobee · 02/07/2025 20:33

Hmm taxes and party manifestos. The Conservative Party constantly go on about tax cuts. And their pals in the right wing media hype it up come election time. And relentlessly slag the Labour Party about what taxes they'll raise. And yet the Tories massively increased the tax burden while in office. But they get a free pass on that from MSM.

Meadowfinch · 02/07/2025 20:33

Why am I angry with them? Because their policies aren't reasonable or well thought.

  • they tried to cut wfa for people living on less than £1k a month. Then they restored it to almost everyone (much too high). Why didn't they set it as the same level as the minimum.wage? They show no judgement.
  • Family farm tax will destroy family farms. They are jeopardising our food supply. Why didn't they target their tax at tax dodgers buying farms, which is where it should. Not 4th generation salad farmers making £30k a year. Again, poor judgement.
-National insurance increase has damaged growth and cut investment. What were they thinking? Poor judgement.
  • Even vat on private schools. It's not going to save the UK any money, it will cost more than it saves, and will mostly hit those with SEN, but no ehcp, that the state system has already failed. The rich won't even notice the VAT. Again poor judgement.

Now the welfare bill. Voted out by their own MPs.

The UK badly needs a govt that knows what it is doing. We all agree with that. This lot are wasting time.

Where did I say I had any idea what your health issues are @18thday ? Or ask you to put them on a public forum?

@18thday panic attacks while driving? If it was serious you wouldnt be able to drive. Bollocks. Just trying to make people look bad you dont even understand that PIP recipients work.

My family member who suffered from panic attacks was repeatedly taken to hospital because when he had an attack in public passers by thought he was having a heart attack when he collapsed in the street.

Prior to his panic attacks he was a rugby playing, tax paying fit and strong young man. Now he is well he's thankfully all of that again. He just needed a leg up through desperate times.

The OP has an axe to grind.

Pollqueen · 02/07/2025 20:35

Because they've pissed off absolutely everybody bar the train drivers. That's quite an achievement in 12 months

Now the infighting and leadership challenges will start which will totally dominate the next 6 months or so. They're no better than the Tories, it's all so disappointing

38.4% of PIP goes to mental health conditions, 28% of these are for anxiety and depression alone. I have both but I do power through.....

But you are one person. Not everyone can. Have you had multiple suicide attempts, been sectioned, developed non epileptic seizure disorder because your brain can't take it anymore?

Ever heard the saying, there's always someone worse off than you?

The government publishes the data. Do you think the government put out a horrible bill that pissed off literally everyone when they had another option?

Anxiety debilitates me, I still work tho

And she would if someone would employ her.

As would my son.

If you have any suggestions how to get an employer to employ someone with autism please please share it.

My son is desperate to work, he's applying for everything but no employer will give him a chance.

For everyone that 'should' work there's an employer that 'should' hire them.

What do you do if they won't? You cant bang on someone's door and demand they employ you. So what do you do when every job you go for tells you no?

Maybe the solution is to target employers. Make them employ disabled people. Incentivise employing disabled people. But then you get people complaining about tokenism and disabled people in the workplace suffering from their colleagues bad attitudes and potentially bullying because they were "only hired because you're disabled"

I mean, the actual solution is for people with disabilities to genuinely be seen as equals, fully understood, valued, welcomed and any accommodations or adaptations needed given gladly.

I wish there was a flying pig emoji.
