What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

I think all paedos should be gassed. Actually most agree with me on that one 😂

I don’t. I’m against the death penalty full stop and while I’m probably in a minority these days I don’t think “most” people think ‘gassing paedos’ is a good thing.

Womblingmerrily · 28/06/2025 20:27

Animals do not belong to people. Removing them from their families causes them harm, which is why they spend time crying for them, only stopping when they give up hope and instead attach themselves to the human who has made them suffer in this way because 'I want a pet'

Agree. Poor kittens and puppies just want their mum.

dynamiccactus · 28/06/2025 20:30

Nitgel · 28/06/2025 20:27

All kids should attend a local school that they can walk to

Is that particularly controversial? I agree and my son did. It obviously depends where you live, it won't work in the Scottish Highlands, but I agree with you where it's possible.

Hanging is too good for them.

A while ago, on a similar thread, I posted my controversial opinion, and my post was promptly deleted by admin. So, I guess I'll stay quiet. It's the "mum" part of Mumsnet.😶

Edited

Ooh, give us a hint!

Edit: apparently my reading comprehension is toddler level tonight. Never mind. 😁

Interesting…why?

Every man I have ever met who says it's his favourite film has been an insufferable twat who mansplains everything. No idea why, but it's just something I've noticed over many years, and my theory hasn't been proved wrong yet.

Never met a woman who says its her favourite film so I couldn't comment on that.

TheChosenTwo · 28/06/2025 20:31

People that introduce new partners to their children before a year are idiots.

IWFH · 28/06/2025 20:31

I think that the UK would be better off with a properly left wing Socialist government.

OP did ask for a controversial view.

SquashMeDown · 28/06/2025 20:31

Forgot my main controversial opinion.

The vast majority of men are misogynists and prop up a misogynistic world, and too many women are blind to it.

PothasProblem · 28/06/2025 20:31

dynamiccactus · 28/06/2025 20:23

I agree - I don't think pet ownership is right (though I realise cats tend to adopt their owners rather than the other way round).

I think people who park their cars/vans on pavements should have their cars crushed.

On the breastfeeding I think you stop when your child gets teeth - at the latest.

Also agree about the planet - it won't suffer if humans die out. We are just a bink in the eye of the world's history.

Which teeth?

atoo · 28/06/2025 20:32

comoatoupeira · 28/06/2025 20:25

Have you even started to consider the human suffering?

Yes,.I have. Have you considered hedonic adaptation?

Foolsgold74 · 28/06/2025 20:32

SunMootStars · 28/06/2025 20:12

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I agree. It's utterly weird. I look at my dog and think, what a strange stinky hairy funny little thing you are to be living in my house. It boggles my mind! He's the love of my life though, so the little weirdo is lay next to me snoring away right this minute!

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 28/06/2025 20:32

Everyone who doesn’t like hot weather should STFU and stop complaining about it.

Personally I judge women more however I don’t vocalise this and this is just me admitting it for the purpose of this thread irl I keep it to myself.

Why do you judge women more?

dynamiccactus · 28/06/2025 20:33

PothasProblem · 28/06/2025 20:31

Which teeth?

Any that mean they can bite you when they are feeding!

Ouch.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 28/06/2025 20:33

That violent sexual predators, active paedophiles and serial rapists should be automatically euthanised once proven guilty. Take the fuckers out of the gene pool rather than spending taxpayer’s money on the expense of incarceration and the ridiculously optimistic - and largely impossible - task of ‘rehabilitation’.

Redrosesposies · 28/06/2025 20:34

That Reform might have a point (or two)

dynamiccactus · 28/06/2025 20:34

Kirbert2 · 28/06/2025 20:33

Why do you judge women more?

It's a good question isn't it. Because women are meant to be caregivers and should #bekind whereas men can bugger off if they want to.

MsTTT · 28/06/2025 20:34

Women who say “my husband was able to be successful because I took a step back in my career to care for the children” are kidding themselves.

If it’s a choice between having children or success, the vast majority of men would choose the latter.

NC28 · 28/06/2025 20:34

Beesandhoney123 · 28/06/2025 20:30

Hanging is too good for them.

Depends how you do it - the traditional trapdoor method with the sudden drop which breaks their neck is fast, obviously.

But the Handmaids Tale method of kicking a stool from under their feet or raising them into the air from the ground, by their neck, is a different story. Would take a while to die, I imagine.

It's not

mrstambourinewoman · 28/06/2025 20:36

I think people need to talk more openly about serious illness and the fact that it’s just a part of life. Not talking about the daily mail doom and gloom article type stuff but I think as a society there is such a taboo around illness, particularly cancer, that when it inevitably happens to someone you know, it feels like an automatic death sentence.

shellsuitsally · 28/06/2025 20:36

Meditation should be on the curriculum.

IceColdFanta · 28/06/2025 20:36

Kirbert2 · 28/06/2025 20:33

Why do you judge women more?

Because it’s worse for a woman to let multiple men impregnate her
