What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

I don't believe in donor sperm or ova, nor in surrogacy.

I judge men as well but for a woman it is worse imo and you don’t have to sleep with a man that refuses to use anything.

Why is it worse?

Women don’t have penises.

Dickhead adults who ride their bikes on pavements should have their bikes taken away or at least fined. Boo fucking hoo you numptie that you feel too nervous to rude on the road.

I got hit by a car and knocked off my bike a few months ago. I use my bike to get to work. There's a bit of dangerous road and I use the pavement for that section now. I always give way to any pedestrians. Am I a dickhead and a numptie?

Jesus Christ.

As others have said-if you have a penis, you are a man; even when you have cut it off!

EdithStourton · 28/06/2025 20:44

A significant minority of parents are bloody useless.
Many are fabulous, and do everything they can to rear resilient, helpful, hardworking DC. Or put in the hours to get a child with issues assessed and helped.
Some just can't be bothered to put in the effort. There is a limit to how many of the resultant pieces schools can pick up.

Fringle · 28/06/2025 20:45

My unpopular opinions concern vegans and a few - but recurring - types of primary school parents.

Not saying any more.

JustAnInchident · 28/06/2025 20:45

That surrogacy is completely wrong and shouldn’t be done, ever.

I hope you don't have kids then.

JohnnyLuLus · 28/06/2025 20:45

Dogs aren't family members and they should be left at home when their owners go out to the shops for a couple of hours or out to dinner. They should also not be allowed in cafes or restaurants.

That ‘trans’ is an autism presentation. See also: anorexia, personality disorders.

I’d go further and say that trans and anorexia are largely due to arbitrary rules (gender and beauty stereotypes) and sensory issues.

Personality disorders are ND conditions with added trauma.

The NHS shouldn't be free for most people.

why do you think it’s free? What do you think taxes sbd National Insurance are??

Why do you judge women more harshly?

Confuuzed · 28/06/2025 20:47

Most nurses, doctors, soldiers, teachers etc aren't saints in human form. The vast majority are just as lazy and selfish as the next person, they're doing a job they are paid to do and they aren't particularly deserving of overwhelming gratitude for it.

Anorexia can come due to life events such as bullying/ abuse. But I agree regarding autism. The 2 transpeople I know personally are most definitely on the spectrum, and the ones I've worked with were waiting on a diagnosis

Do you get off your bike and walk that section?

JohnnyLuLus · 28/06/2025 20:48

Surrogacy is cruel. The trauma of separting a newborn from their mother who has carried them for 9 months has a longlasting negative effect on mother and child.

Pricelessadvice · 28/06/2025 20:05

I find people breastfeeding past the age of 6 months unnecessary.
People get very annoyed by that one!

My 3 year old son would have disagreed completely. I was ready to give it up earlier but we stopped at 2 years 10 months because it helped him sleep and he wanted it for comfort. He also still very rarely gets ill and has no allergies that we know of. Not so unnecessary after all!

Bloody hell. I don’t think I’d admit that even under a name change!

ScreamingBeans · 28/06/2025 20:48

We are not lucky to have the NHS. It's not 1948 anymore. Most other developed nations also have decent healthcare systems meaning that all their citizens have access to healthcare either free at the point of demand or at perfectly affordable prices. The funding model is clearly inadequate and we are encouraged to be grateful supplicants who humbly accept terrible standards and terrible treatment because we should think ourselves lucky to have it.

Imagine if the water companies kept telling us we were lucky to have clean running water and we better not complain about them dumping sewage on the beaches in case we have to go back to using wells. Or the electricity companies told us we were lucky to be able to read at 8:00 p.m. when it's dark, so we should put up with rude, incompetent or cruel treatment.

Shock horror.

WisePearlPoet · 28/06/2025 20:48

Personalised number plates are pure vanity. Extreme wealth is obscene, think the Bezos circus in Venice this weekend.
We still have no real understanding of the impact Covid has had on the population but it isn't good.
Mandatory sterilisation for women who are repeatedly pregnant and the children are promptly.removed by children's services.

Conkerjar · 28/06/2025 20:48

Having kids that you can't wait to send off to school age 4 (or for lots of nursery time even younger) doesn't make sense to me. You/one of the parents should be prepared to be around for them, and should want to be, if it's best for that kid. I used to regularly guffaw at school holiday posts from people who didn't know how to handle having their kids at home. Why bother having them? Something on a tick list?

I get that some kids absolutely thrive in childcare settings, but parents treat school like free childcare, and it really isn't.
