Taxes to rise to fund PIP

1000 replies

Viviennemary · 27/06/2025 11:20

I just read this, Don't agree with this at all. PIP needs to be reformed. But not by introducing this two tier system. Sick of Labour already. Might have know they would revert to type. With all the infighting and disagreement so nothing ever gets done except back peddling, increased taxes and prices rises.

I don’t agree with working people being the only people to get tax rises. It should be tax rises for everyone, or nothing.

Im a pensioner and i pay tax, which will also rise. You are not very subtle with your insinuation,or do you propose people on benefits pay tax as they along with people on basic state pensions dont pay tax..

Jenkibuble · 27/06/2025 13:54

I voted labour and am regretting it - their indecisiveness is a JOKE and not a funny one !

Who will they give in to next? Farmers (inheritance tax)

I don't think PIP should be awarded for anxiety and depression. The money should be put towards better counselling services on the NHS if mental health needs to be addressed.

Just anxiety and depression or all mental health conditions?

Absolutely, we are considering this too. Even more so if tax is increased

My son is about to qualify as an actuary with one of the UK's largest insurers. Most of his peers are actively looking to leave the UK and work abroad and nearly all the "leaving do's" over the last couple of years have been for newly qualified actuaries leaving to emigrate. It's a very real problem! Not just because of how highly taxed they are (income tax, NIC, student loans etc), the housing costs are crippling for young people.

Cool story. It reads like a benefits bingo card. You should become a fiction writer🙄Utter rubbish!

That's fascinating. I am very sad about the relationship breakdown and have no reason to invent a story at all.
What does it say about you when I am talking about this and you defend a liar by calling me the liar?

I don't agree with the tax rises and am disappointed with all the back tracking. All benefits should be reviewed. There should be cuts and more restrictions.

Lcwra for people with mental health problems like anxiety needs to be stopped. I know so many people sitting around being paid not to work. Work actually helps mental health. Why pay people to stay at home and essentially get more anxious and avoidant, with a financial incentive NOT to help themselves?

Work does not necessarily help your mental health. This is propaganda.

Many workplaces are unsupportive, run to the ground, expecting more of people than they can give with unreasonable and unattainable targets designed to make people feel like failures.

Another poster who thinks that if you stop support the need for that support magically disappears.

I presume you're talking about the poster I quoted and not me.

Miley23 · 27/06/2025 13:51

Completely agree. This is the reason I want to leave my job as a benefits advisor.

Edited

And as a benefit advisor you should know that PIP is not an out of work benefit. The fact that someone is claiming it is absolutely no indication as to their ability to work. Everyone knows someone who is scrounging or. ‘Not disabled enough’. No one really knows anyone elses’ true circumstances, which is why as a former benefit adviser and disability outreach worker, I tended to treat comments like these with the contempt they deserve. Sweeping generalisations have no place in deciding who should be eligible for these benefits.

If they hadn't made such stupid mistakes in the first place, they wouldn't have to do all these U-turns. They made the classic leftie mistake of politics of envy rather than using common sense. "We hate private schools, so we'll tax them", "we hate farmers, so we'll hike IHT", "we hate business so we'll hike NIC and impose draconian workers rights", etc.

OriginalUsername2 · 27/06/2025 13:57

I’m pissed off at the rich people fucking off elsewhere. Their departures will strain the economy even more. It feels like they’re abandoning ship.

‘We hate disabled people so we’ll hoodwink the public into thinking they’re all scroungers who are riding round in free cars and having a ball.’!!

Arrearing50 · 27/06/2025 13:59

I was listening to Scaramucci on the rest is politics US and he was talking about the New York elections, saying rich people have happy feet. That’s right really, we all do our best for our families. There needs to sense in a tax system and it needs to reward striving.

Yogabearmous · 27/06/2025 13:59

it was always obvious that labour would do this. They have reverted to their old plans again. Tax tax tax until all the wealthy people leave and we end up in the shit. Just like last time.

cupfinalchaos · 27/06/2025 13:59

UnpopularOpinion212 · 27/06/2025 11:36

I would stop PIP for all anxiety-related issues after 6 months, unless due to physical aggression / PTSD.

Yup.. who doesn’t get anxious sometimes. Rather the money went where it’s needed. Labour doing what it does best.. f***g up the economy.

Badbadbunny · 27/06/2025 12:18

It won't be "everyone" though, will it? Those living on benefits will be exempt, as will pensioners. So it WILL just be yet another tax on workers.

Im a pensioner and i am most certainly not exempt.I like many pensioners pay tax on our income.

Kulwinder54 · 27/06/2025 14:00

Rosscameasdoody · 27/06/2025 13:50

I'm recommending people on benefits to get a source of income, not saying get out of the house and get a job.

This makes no sense whatsoever. And government cannot just stop paying benefits, the commitment is enshrined in law.

Edited

the gov can still give you money but it can very well end up being worth nothing. what's your lifestyle going to be like when a box of 6 eggs is ten pounds? what will people on benefits do then?? that is why i am recommending them to save and prepare.

It's not just the rich it's young people who are being bled dry by taxes and the cost of living,. It's not just the tax avoiders who are a problem, it's people who make benefits a lifestyle choice.

AzurePanda · 27/06/2025 14:01

We are in the process of returning to my home country after 30 years of living and working in the UK. Never thought we would do this and never wanted to but the disparity between tax paid and quality of public services has become too great.

Two out of three of our (high earning professional) children are now working abroad and the third has just accepted an international job offer. It’s a flood of departures.

My DH had a brain tumour and due to loss of sight and memory issues he applied for PIP and didn't get it partly because he was still working I think. Then he had brain tumour removed and took some time to get over operation that removed tumour from going in through his nose and reapplied and still didn't get it. He's since got it for a fractured spine and partial knee replacement after a bad accident and struggling with mobility. I don't know how your ex could get it.

He isn’t my ex.

We pay taxes so if we need benefits in the future they are there. What if you wake up tomorrow disabled or get in a life changing accident. Don't ever think your immune from disability

Indeed.
