No scare mongering
just seen a post that said WW3 is about to happen and the UK will be involved. Something about trump.
is it true

WTF is saying this and where is the evidence i.e offical news, not some random shit on fb?
There will be enough people worrying about the situation becoming worse without scare mongering on here as well.

CommissarySushi · 22/06/2025 10:06

No. Iran doesn't have the capabilities to fight back against the US, and any potential allies they had have been backing off for a while now.

I live on an overseas US army installation and nobody is worried right now. Obviously things can change quickly but that's the current consensus.

Happyher · 22/06/2025 10:09

No it’s not unless you consider Iraq and Afghanistan to be world wars but then it would be WW5. Mutually assured destruction is what’s prevented it up to now. The media hypes it up as it’s good TV. How worried would you be if you didn’t have 24 hour news. We may see terror attacks on Western targets and cyber attacks

WaryCrow · 22/06/2025 10:09

And yet there’s a hell of a lot of noise out there about how Iran nearly had nuclear weapons, not long after the international task force tasked with such matters said that they were not.

Propaganda machines are working I feel.

Well . . .

Look at history, look at our commerce, look at recent events.

There is a major war in Europe, with no end in sight.

There is war in the Middle East, with no end in sight.

Western monetary systems collapsed in 2008 and they have never recovered. Virtually all western countries are literally broke.

Men of fighting age, from countries that have been preciously attacked by western forces, are pouring into Europe, thousands of indivdual, on a daily basis, the numbers are staggering. They are deliberately making their way to those countries that are considered to be "in power" or have influence over EU politics. The UK, Germany, France . . .

Western "democracies" are the weakest they have ever been. There are immigration riots in the US, the EU, Ireland, UK . . .

People are poor, jobs are scarce (and the advent of A.I will ensure they only get harder to find). Societies are fractured and there is immense anger within communities. People are seeing their neighbourhoods, their country, change before their eyes. They have no certainty anymore. There are millions of people who feel like they are invisible, and don't feel their own government is working for them.

We are in the most precarious and dangerous place since the end of WW2.

If Iran or their proxies decide to blockade the shipping routes, western economies will not be able to survive the oil shock.

If oil rises by 50 to 80 percent, which it will if the tankers are attacked or blocked, we are fucked.

That will be the touch paper for a global conflict.

BMW6 · 22/06/2025 10:19

No. I'm knocking on 70 and have lived through bigger threats of WW3 than this.

Iran will continue to lob missiles at Israel, they'll probably set up some terrorist attacks on American properties, spout a load of guff then hopefully there'll be a regime change.

Same old same old.

BlueandPinkSwan · 22/06/2025 10:37

The Middle East have been kicking the shit out of each other since the dawn of civilization in some shape or form, what is new about it?
Trumpy Boy is going for Iran because he didn't get Russia / Ukraine war sorted as he said he was going to. He hasn't bombed Ukraine and would be too scared to take on Russia, so he's being Billy big bollocks and taking on Iran instead.
When is America going to stop policing the world and sort out their own problems i.e their red neck president?

Ireland is in the EU. And the “immigration riots” were basically a few hundred hoodlums nicking trainers from Sports Direct. If you want to know how most Irish feel about immigration, probably better taking a look at the recently held national election rather than YouTube shorts (the antiimmigration parties barely mustered a couple of % points between them).

Lavenderfarmcottage · 22/06/2025 10:38

No I don’t think so. Donald trump is stupid but when it comes to a potential world war three, I don’t believe he would combine arrogance and stupidity - his usual winning combination. This isn’t just reversible tarrifs or attention seeking headlines or a power play, the stakes are high. I think he’s surely listening to experts - actual experts.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 22/06/2025 10:41

Plus Israel seem to have a distinct advantage with intelligence - wars are won with intelligence. I also think trump is just playing a game of “I’m so unpredictable” to give Israel the upper hand and shake Iran’s cage.

I think grumpy trumpy is involved because the US are bum chums with Israel & it’s a foothold in the Middle East for US.

Actual experts 😆
They are probably as stupid and thick like him, and will tell him whats wants to hear.

Lovelyweatherbluesky · 22/06/2025 10:59

Worrying about bad things only attracts bad things, collective worrying and panicking only makes it worse

Abhannmor · 22/06/2025 11:15

Doubt there will be a world war like WWII. Israel has circa 300 nuclear bombs and does not allow inspectors to have access. It is not signed up to the Non Proliferation Treaty - unlike Iran. Although Israel is a very belligerent nation it's unlikely to start a nuclear war. Iran has no nuclear bombs but the regional war will drag on as it's not really about that. It's about Bibi.

Consequently there will be :

A huge wave of refugees - to Europe of course , not the US.
A spike in the oil price leading to inflation and or a Recession
A rush by Israel's neighbours to acquire nuclear weapons. Otherthwise how will they avoid the fate of Lebanon, Iraq , Syria or Gaza? Or Ukraine come to that.
There could be political repercussions, maybe a new America First party , now that Trump has betrayed his base. Isolationism.
Starmer to mumble about ' concerns ' but still allow the US to use British bases and send a token taskforce to the Gulf.
The Irish were wobbling about neutrality after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I think that this insanity will lead to a rethink. We must look to ourselves for defence. Otherwise we will be complicit in war crimes with no end in sight.
My tuppence worth.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 22/06/2025 11:44

Does anyone listen to ‘The Rest is Politics’ oh wow they are good - comforting & like listening to your Dad & an Uncle discussing politics (albeit far more informed). I haven’t had a chance yet (kid free) to listen to their latest podcast on this very issue.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 22/06/2025 11:45

If only Rory & Alistair (TRIP podcast) could run the world.

If Article 5 of Nato is triggered
We go, Nato goes

BUT it is extremely unlikely that targets will be hit in the UK.
Almost impossible infact

It may be impossible for them to hit targets with traditional bombs. Doesn't mean cyber warfare or an increase in terrorist attacks is out of the question.

PopeJoan2 · 22/06/2025 11:48

Hedjwitch · 21/06/2025 23:14

Possibly. Unless cool heads intervene

Which isn’t likely given that the world is ruled by nutcases at the moment and our prime minister is spineless, a* licking and power hungry.

In the past few years ordinary British citizens have been hit with Covid, lost our freedom to live and work in other European countries, been traumatised by having to back Netanyahu’s relentless attack on Gaza in our name (because our govt helped to arm them), a cost of living crisis and now they want us to give up our young for their wars.

if only they took older people into the army. I would sign up because I have had enough.

I think one day we will look back and realise it had already started. It’s a slow burner with flashpoints here and there.

I was just about to post this...we are not waiting for anything, it has already started - it's just been on slow simmer.

PopeJoan2 · 22/06/2025 11:50

I will never forgive Americans for inflicting this monster upon us.

Parker231 · 22/06/2025 12:00

Read this viewpoint online this morning.

The first move in Iran’s retaliation could be to block the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint where nearly a quarter of the world’s oil trade flows. This narrow waterway connects the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, and any disruption here would send oil prices skyrocketing, triggering global inflation and economic shockwaves.

crumblingschools · 22/06/2025 01:30

@Daisyqueen45 do you think Iran will take this quietly?

Quite

Sadly even recent history has shown us that you don’t need nuclear to retaliate on a horrendous scale.

There is no way that Iran will not respond to this. Fucking scary times thanks to the Orange Twat across the pond.

They'll be wiped of the face of the earth if they do retaliate. They just don't have the resources, compared to the US.

And Trump - the greedy orange glob - will take control of their oil while Starmer yaps at his heels begging for a trade deal.
