People are very naive thinking that Starmer/UK can just pull out. We are NATO. And we'll need to join if NATO will ask...

NATO is a defensive organisation, allies may get involved outside of its structure if pressured but that’s different

Is it not a good thing that Iran will now not have a nuclear bomb?

They don’t have one. They never had one. Behave.

Usou · 22/06/2025 08:06

Why the hysteria about WW3?

Who would fight whom, and where would they do it?

Hopefully we are just seeing limited surgical strikes to end Iranian nuclear ambitions. I, and I suspect many regional players, would see this as a major positive.

I doubt there would be much appetite for "boots on the ground" within the US government after iraq and Afghanistan. Israeli actions mean that both Iran and Syria have greatly reduced capacity for any military response.

Pakistan has threatened a response, but I'm not sure about their ability to do this.

The major threat within Europe at the moment is probably from Islamists that interpret this as an attack on Islam.

apparently the Israelis are trying to jump start the apocalypse if you get into the religious side of it and them believing they are gods people … it’s why the lunatic (can’t spell his name kind of don’t want to either) is trying to wipe everyone out .

What a vile racist comment with no basis in reality at all.

Pedallleur · 22/06/2025 08:11

Things are negotiated behind the scenes. The Mid East states may regard Iran as a rogue nation . Russia provides assistance where necessary. China can just watch. Iran doesn't really have allies just lots of oil and sand. Well be back here in 10/20/40 years when the next regime threatens our interests. But WW3? No.

Sadcafe · 22/06/2025 08:12

China will condemn what’s happened as no doubt will Russia, but not sure either would want to start a war with the US because of it. Irans proxies will doubtless get involved but again, is that enough to start a world war, hopefully not

What a stupid comment - no basis and pretty disgusting to think like that

Is it not a good thing that Iran will now not have a nuclear bomb?

Where’s the evidence that they had one?

Genevieva · 22/06/2025 08:16

I think there’s been a slow burn forever war for years.

ohfook · 22/06/2025 08:17

I actually think no. While I don’t support what the US has done at all, it has just removed Israel’s entire reason for any aggression against Iran. I mean they have instead made every US citizen a target so I don’t think DT is a tactical genius but it has hopefully paused any issues between Iran and Isreal.

clappydays · 22/06/2025 08:19

I doubt anyone is going to side with Iran (not even Russia) so I see it as unlikely. There will likely be reprisal attacks of some kind though.

I find it odd that people weren’t concerned about an evil power like Iran having nuclear weapons but they are concerned when the US removes them.

clappydays · 22/06/2025 08:21

It would be wonderful if a cultural revolution now unseated the Ayotollah - how glorious if women could once again live in freedom.

CalmLemonCrab · 22/06/2025 08:30

Totally understand the fear - the news can feel overwhelming. But it's worth remembering that there have been lots of serious conflicts (Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Syria) involving major powers and crazy leaders that didn’t spiral into a world war.

Even now, with the US bombing Iranian targets and tensions rising around Israel, it's still more likely to remain a regional conflict. None of the big players - including the US, Iran, or even Israel - actually want full-scale war, let alone a global one. There are back channels, diplomacy, and deterrents in play behind the scenes.

It’s serious, yes, but not the start of WW3.

TuttiFruittiSweets · 22/06/2025 08:33

It’s unlikely but not impossible.

caref · 22/06/2025 08:38

I watch the tv news with videos of rockets exploding over cities with sadness and dread. Will we - humans - never learn? Seems not. So sad.

AInightingale · 22/06/2025 08:39

I took a look at Twitter this morning - 'World War Three' is only trending in 3rd position in the UK, behind some football manager and Tony Hart. Seems people aren't unduly concerned? Many have got catastrophe fatigue at this point.

For me, it's that, at the age of 51, I've seen so many 'possible WW3' cries over different wars and events, that I just don't think this is any different.

LancashireButterPie · 22/06/2025 08:46

I hope that Starmer has learned from the mistakes of the Blair admin, and remains cool headed.

QuiteUnbelievable · 22/06/2025 08:49

Parker they do not have nuclear weapons they were working towards it that's the problem

I think it’s often said on mn. Most leaders recognise the threat.

Birdsinginginthetrees · 22/06/2025 08:51

No it isn’t. Stop being so hysterical. If anything the world is a much safer place now. I will sleep a lot easier tonight.

Wasn’t one of the first steps of the ‘free’ new Surian regime to start handing out burkas? Hopefully that was just some anti propaganda. It would be wonderful to see women in all of the Middle Eastern countries having more freedom, but I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime.

Dominicus · 22/06/2025 08:53

Goingawayistricky · 22/06/2025 07:29

It makes not a hill of beans.

History shows us men like fighting.

Everything could be worked out diplomatically but they can’t help themselves.

Exactly. Like a bunch of toddlers. Where are the adults? The mediators and diplomats?

This is it in a nutshell. There are already too many rogue states around the globe that are capable of holding the world to ransom. Iran would have eventually been another one.
