It’s evil what was done to that poor woman. At one point she was literally rotting just so she could incubate the fetus that little bit longer. He’s finally been born, and he’s so small. They are confident he will make it, but I think they HAVE to say that to justify what they did.

Least she can rest in peace now

If it was me I would want my baby to have a chance, you would do anything for them when alive, why not after you die if it's possible.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 18/06/2025 14:05

I have personally met a baby who was born whilst her Mum was in a coma in the height of covid. Both Mum and baby fine now, although traumatic experience for the Mum of course as she didn't come out of the coma until a while later. Think this is different though but it just shows these things happen more than you think.

You'd bring life into this world through your lifeless body? I think that's fucking unhinged.

Im 33 weeks pregnant. If died tomorrow of course id want my unborn son saved if there was a fighting chance.

TomatoSandwiches · 18/06/2025 14:06

Adrianna was brain dead, she was 9 weeks pregnant but a 9 week old gestation is not viable, nowhere near and they should have passed away together imo.

This was an experiment and a poor motherless child will carry the burden for someone else's perversion imo.

Don't pretend it's the same scenario because it's not.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/06/2025 13:53

Exactly this, I find it utterly repulsive.

This.

God, it's worse even than being born to a mother who dies during childbirth.

He wouldn't be the first child never to be held in his mother's arms even once, but he's been deprived months of hearing her voice, listening to her sing, feeling her rub her belly, all the normal, loving things pregnant women do so they already have an established relationship with their baby by the time they are born.

Who knows what the impact of being gestated in such a sterile environment might be, brain damage or no brain damage.

I literally answered what you said applying it to my own circumstances. Where did I say it was the same.

They'd try and save your baby if it was viable. They wouldn't keep you a hair's breath away from death for months on end while your flesh decayed - who would want that for their child?

^ This, just because you think you can doesn’t mean you should.

(Even if you have been proven to be right as in this case. )

I think women should be asked this during their booking in appointment, and then that stuck to wherever practical (or it may not be justifiable before a certain point under the NHS).

I'd have probably chosen to be kept alive for the second or third trimester, but only the first in my first pregnancy (as I'd have the welfare of my first to think about as well).

Very fair points, I think.

SheilaFentiman · 18/06/2025 14:22

It's entirely possible that the family were stroking the bump, talking to it etc (this happened in the Czech case I mentioned upthread)

I thought she also had a DNR in place. So her wishes, and the wishes of her next of kin, who already have to deal with her death, were completely overruled.

There's no indication that it will reach the UK. We have and have always had quite a different stance on abortion.

I think you are quite naive if you think women's reproductive rights won't be used as a scapegoat for political gain. I do worry about Reform, if they get in I'm pretty sure they'll start banging the drum about decreasing birth rates of the "native" population and that will be the catalyst for something sinister. There's a few of them that already believe in some pretty racist conspiracy theories about white people being bred out of existence.

That's a very poor substitute for a living mother's womb. We have no idea what the impact of living inside a corpse might be, and we shouldn't be trying to find out.

justkeepswimingswiming · 18/06/2025 14:34

awful, her family didnt want her on machines to continue the pregancy but the state forced it to happen. They wanted her & the pregancy to pass away peacefully and they ripped that away from
them.

She was DEAD not in a coma DEAD

Totally different scenario

To be clear, I disagree with the actions of the hospital in the US case.

She wasn't in a fucking coma, she was fucking dead. She was not waking up from a deep sleep like Snow White, as soon as those machines were turned off, there was nothing keeping her alive. She was not waking up.

Sure - but dunno if the hospital is discounting.

Was there an announcement on a discount? US hospitals don’t offer “discounts”.

justkeepswimingswiming · 18/06/2025 14:41

@Wavescrashingonthebeachshes dead not in a coma. Theres no “think” about it.

Like I said, I don’t know.

US hospitals have an ability to do certain things pro bono in my understanding. Emory may or may not have waived some fees here.

Soggybirthdaycamping · 18/06/2025 12:34

Rights and wrongs aside, child seems to have a good chance of surviving, and is a perfectly normal weight for a baby of that gestation, which has usually about a 70 to 90% chance of survival.

Baby also has survived about 5 days so far, so their chances of survival are higher, as most who die will do so within the first few days.

This baby is likely to make it and I hope it does. It's death or survival shouldn't be used as points scoring either way. Ultimately it's a tiny baby fighting for its life, and on that basis, I wish it the best of luck

Edited

Disgusting mentality a child's been born without it's mother & will never know a proper family or be told it's loved by the person who conceived it just so people can feel good they "saved it"

You should all be ashamed of yourselves

Tell me you’re never had medical treatment in the US without telling me you’ve never had medical treatment in the US.
