I love the name Melissa, maybe because so many of the letters have a soft sound. I've only ever taught a couple of girls with that name. I think it's due a revival.

I know a Melissa in her late thirties and she's every bit as lovely as the name.
I like the name Jeremiah but would hate it shortened to Jerry.

I don't like Jeremiah because it means a very pessimistic person who's always moaning. I think that meaning comes from a gloomy prophet in the Old Testament.

I've been watching the drama series about the Mitfords and I think the 100 year rule will see names like Pamela and Diana become fashionable again.

Peregrine
I’ve never met one.

There’s a well known influencer with one. Pippin for short.

TheignT · 03/07/2025 08:55

I wonder if we will see Elvis as a top name?

Andrew

Has always been my favourite boy's name 😭

CruCru · 04/07/2025 18:32

Andrew was one of the apostles and I think it is more common in Scotland.

Andrew

I don't think Andrew will die out it's a traditional name ,it migh not be particularly popular at the moment but it will.have a resurgence at some point ,like Mark,David Paul ,Stephen etc.

I've just come across an 18th Great Aunt called "Mundane" in my family tree on my mother's side - I think "Mundane" will definitely die out.
In the same branch of the tree I had an 18th Great Grandfather called "Pain".

I think you have definitely identified the names that won’t be coming back.

100 years & they’ll be the ‘Albie’ & Alfie of today.

Was it Freakonomics that said the ‘below stairs’ names of yesteryear become the middle class names of today NB: Ruby etc.

FloweryCactus · 11/07/2025 14:28

All names will come back round in the end, once they belong to people's grandparents or more likely great grandparents. It was unthinkable to have a Harry, George, Edith, Stanley, Ruby or Harriet in the 1970s because they were names for 60 year olds.

When I first heard of babies being called Margot, I laughed my head off but now I know a few. I am pretty sure that Kenneth, Barbara Pamela, Dennis etc will come back in time, and not so far away.

Snugglemonkey · 11/07/2025 15:02

PlumpAndCircumstance · 14/06/2025 14:49

I think Mark has never fully gone away, and will definitely have a revival, along with Paul, Stephen and Jonathon, which in my mind are similar vintage.

i don’t expect Percy or Barry to come back.

I know a baby Percy.

Victoria Coren-Mitchell and David Mitchell called their first baby Barbara.

Sharon and Tracy?

Aw. Baby Babs is quite cute 🤣

sugarapplelane · 12/07/2025 11:39

How about Russell?
Never heard of any recent kids called Russell.
The name brings images of an annoying boy! Probably because our annoying, entitled neighbour is called Russell

Emanwenym · 12/07/2025 12:08

Jonathon can die out, please, but Jonathan can stay.

MikeRafone · 12/07/2025 13:08

My great grandmother wanted my mum to call me Fanny. With my last name being Hare.

So glad my mother didn’t listen

Fanny is usually just short for Francis or Frances though, isn't it? A horrible abbreviation, obviously, but not a name per se.

I had a 5th great uncle called Marmaduke and another (his brother) called Garbut! Their surname was Garbut as well - their other brother my 4 great grandfather was called Robert.

Calliopespa · 28/06/2025 22:24
