I know many Amanda’s ranging from mid 30s to 60s, but never met a baby/child Amanda and I’ve been to lots of baby groups, have school aged children and worked in schools. Ditto Claire/Clare, Michelle, Yvonne, Michael, Philip, Andrew, Jennifer.

I know a six year old Amanda, but she's Spanish.

Phyllis, Agnes, Carmel, Esther, Doris, Beryl, Enid, Bertha, Doris, Mabel, Wayne, Sharon, Kenneth, Darren, Darryl, Jayden (and variants), and names like Braxton, Pa(i)ge and Harper. Possibly Lilly and Jack as the the trend is/was too great. Also girls called Charlie (who aren't Charlotte).

I think Vera and Stanley will make a comeback, and maybe Hilda.

Esther hasn’t really gone away here in NI. There aren’t loads, but you still hear it. Probably because it’s a biblical name and you know how much we luuve our religion in NI😅 My 16 yo nephew’s girlfriend is Esther. Lovely name.

deeahgwitch · 19/06/2025 16:06

Has Mabel not made a comeback @XWKD ?

Mabel definitely not going anywhere. We have 13 of those names on roll at work, from baby age up to school age, including at least 3 called Mabel.

From this list I mean:

Phyllis, Agnes, Carmel, Esther, Doris, Beryl, Enid, Bertha, Doris, Mabel, Wayne, Sharon, Kenneth, Darren, Darryl, Jayden (and variants), and names like Braxton, Pa(i)ge and Harper. Possibly Lilly and Jack as the the trend is/was too great. Also girls called Charlie (who aren't Charlotte).

Emanwenym · 19/06/2025 16:56

@borderlaise, Lilly was only briefly popular, but Lily is #4. Jack is still in the top #20.

Most of the names you listed are really nice, but I wouldn't use Stanley and Hilda for siblings.

Mary, Margaret, Marion - my mum, her mum, and my dad’s mum. And three names that are dead in popularity. Almost called my daughter Marion but we had people saying they’d never heard it before!

I will add Mavis in there too.

i have a mary in the family (2 years old) and I love the names Margaret and Marion, hope they make a comeback!

Our grandchildren are going to be called Barry, Lorraine, Melvyn, Janet, Colin, Jacquie, Tony, Sheila, Terry and Joyce

Yeah, right!! 😂

Slatterndisgrace · 16/06/2025 14:12

I always wondered why people shortened the lovely name Richard to Dick, which is vile.

My parents called me Ann because they thought that couldn’t be messed with.
Most people have decided to call me Annie!

I think Mark has never fully gone away, and will definitely have a revival, along with Paul, Stephen and Jonathon, which in my mind are similar vintage.

i don’t expect Percy or Barry to come back.

One of my DS (in his 20s) has one of these names. He loves it as he says it makes him unique, and his mates gently tease him about his “middle aged man” name.

RafaFan · 20/06/2025 19:40

Met a four-year-old Veronica (Ronnie) today. Not a name I would have expected to hear in this age group, but it is perfect for her and unlikely to be another one in her class at school.

Clawdy · 20/06/2025 22:19

Muriel
Brenda
Doreen

borderlaise · 24/06/2025 17:17

Saw a secondary school aged lad today called Adrian. Not a name you hear much anymore.

I like Phyllis, Agnes and Enid from your list. I know a twelve year old Mabel.

Oh please not Hilda for a comeback.

If there was ever an ugly name it’s Hilda. The only thing worse is the German “Brunhilde.”

I actually think Christopher is too.

ToWhitToWhoo · 24/06/2025 23:21

I would also have suggested Daphne- but I have just met an 8-year-old Daphne.
