Blingismything · 25/06/2025 06:13

Malcolm, Norma, Mervyn.

Piggywaspushed · 25/06/2025 08:13

I am reading a book about 1920s politics and there are some great names in there that could definitely become MN approved (Fenner Brockway is a v cool name) but it did occur to me that Vivian for a man may be lost in time.

Caspianberg · 25/06/2025 11:33

I think Norma will catch on. It’s really sweet and works on any age I think. Nora is really popular now and it’s very similar

CremeEggThief · 25/06/2025 13:01

Sorry but both Norma and Norman are terrible and should never come back.

They also sound too much like one of my least favourite words- normal!

I actually think Christopher is too.

I heard someone calling an 8 or 9 year old boy Christopher today and was thinking it was due to make a comeback.

I also think Adrian will make a comeback but I like Miraculous Ladybug. 😁 I think a lot of younger girls will grow up liking that name due to the Cat Noir character.

Emanwenym · 25/06/2025 16:21

I think Norma and Norma are fine. Adrian is awful.

Christopher might get a boost as it's long for Kit.

Both of those are on my ‘loathe because they’re so ugly’ list!

Emanwenym · 25/06/2025 19:46

Adrian might be OK sometime, but not now.

iseethembloom · 25/06/2025 20:13

Can’t see much future for Derek, tbh

BetteDavisChin · 25/06/2025 20:45

Karen is a lovely name.
It will return.

I'd love if Keren-happuch made a major resurgence.

I actually have a relative called Keren, which is a short form of that name.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/06/2025 20:46

Just catching up with the list and lots of the names I still teach (have been at 3 very different schools recently)
Bryan, Darren, Esther (and an Esta), Claire, Andrew, Michael, Jennifer (and a Jenny), a few Stanley’s, Sid, Mary and as mentioned up thread I recently met a baby Keith.

Calliopespa · 28/06/2025 22:24

Euphemia anyone?

User14March · 28/06/2025 23:17

How popular is Duncan these days? Tarquin has a negative reputation that might stick for a long while. Wendy?

I know a few Christopher / Kristofer’s - it’s a name that works in Greek, Russian and English.

I've been doing our family tree on one side and was surprised to see Christopher as the first born for six/seven generations from the mid 17th to late 19th century. On both sides Robert and James were very frequent. I was surprised to see few Johns and no Catherine's except for a lone Kate, and the same for Mary. Outnumbered by four Carolines with the first in 1700 something and the last in the late 1800s. Elizabeth/Eliza, Alice and Martha were the hands down winners!

NiftyScroller27 · 29/06/2025 16:25

Mavis, Alfred, Reginald and Vera are all names that have died out I've never met anyone under 60 with them names

My grandma has traced our family tree back to about the 13th century and it's absolutely full of Zachariahs! Also Williams. No Christophers as far as I can remember. One Mary and a few Isabellas.

Lorraine, Vanessa, Melissa

I love the name Melissa, maybe because so many of the letters have a soft sound. I've only ever taught a couple of girls with that name. I think it's due a revival.
