Lorraine and Deborah. Melvin and Alan.

I met a baby Alan recently. A funny little name for an adorable baby, but his brothers both have similar names so I guess it’s just the era of names the parents like!

Slatterndisgrace · 14/06/2025 14:55

Bruce.

I know! Apparently singing Happy Birthday helps get rid of ear worms.

I know “old” names sometimes make a surprising comeback, but I suspect most of the above are gone for good. All, strangely enough, are or were names of members of my family.

Names come round again. When I first started teaching, I could never have imagined I'd end up with a class with children called Stanley, Wilfred, Arthur, Elsie, Nancy and Violet.
To me they were old people's names, yet here we are!

They won't be 'old lady' names any more once all the old ladies with those names have died, will they?
