Greta’s flotilla

What are you thoughts on this? 13 people including Greta Thunberg were travelling to Palestine via boat with supplies. It’s been intercepted by Isreal and diverted.

Whatvare your thoughts? I’m guessing they will simply be deported, maybe with a severe telling off? The UN and the Palestinian foreign ministry have vocalised their support and asked for them to be allowed to continue their journey, however Isreal have said it was nothing more than a vanity exercise and they had very limited supplies on board to actually give aid.

What do you think will happen to the activists on board? Do you think they were right to go? Do you think they genuinely wanted to help or it was more about raising awareness?

I like Greta and I love that she has, so far, used her life to champion causes and she seems like a clever and funny woman. But I wonder if this trio was always doomed and what their long term plan was, especially if they had little aid onboard? But if that was their intention, maybe they just wanted to raise awareness of their feelings on the situation? Should anyone be trying to intervene like this or should it be left to proper channels?

I know feelings are high about this and I want to say I don’t support any of the awful things that have happened and recognise bad things on both sides. I don’t care for Israel’s terrible behaviour or Hamas’ awful doings, I do however care for the innocent people in the middle on both sides. This thread is just to get general thoughts on this…’mission’.

Just to add my thoughts: if this was a genuine aid mission then I respect them putting themselves potentially at risk (due to the boat trip) to care for others but also feel like it’s extremely naive and not actually the right thing to do, there has to be better ways to support?

Why not let them deliver the aid?

TBH I'd have thought the Palestinians have problems enough without having to deal with Greta waving a phone in their faces for another selfie

Pointless virtue signalling all of it, and so predictable that they refused to watch the footage of the October atrocities

Not only refused to watch it but dismissed it as propaganda. Maybe if she had got where she had really no intention of was going, she could have asked Hamas to confirm the footage was real, given they filmed it.

because I’m not an antisemite

im just pointing out that your hyperbole is discrediting your points

Yes, you are - because Arab people are also Semites. Why Israel made 'Semites' all about themselves? They should say anti-Jews or anti-Israel. It's literally like saying 'anti-Slavic' means anti-Serbians or anti-Bulgarians

Is that something else to be thrown at Jewish people now? They seem to get blamed for a heck of a lot.

The word antisemite was coined by a German radical, nationalist and race-agitator in 1879 to specifically refer to Jews. There are no semitic people, only semitic languages.

Please do some research; you're compounding your antisemitism by claiming that "Israel made 'Semites' all about themselves"

BigALittleABouncingB · 11/06/2025 21:56

Just to add that there is a wiki entry for 'Semitic people' but it notes that the "terminology is now largely unused outside the grouping "Semitic languages" in linguistics"

Semitic languages - Wikipedia

I can’t stop thinking about this comment. I had to return to it as I can’t leave such an ignorant and frankly bigoted comment without a response.

As PP’s have also responded:
Yes, Arabs are Semitic in a linguistic sense, but antisemitism has never just meant “hate against Semitic people.” It was coined in the 19th century specifically to describe hatred toward Jews — and that’s exactly how it’s been used for over a century, including by those promoting the hate.
Telling Jews they shouldn’t use the term antisemitism is not only wrong — it erases centuries of persecution, from pogroms and expulsions to the Holocaust and ongoing hate crimes. This isn’t just semantics — it’s historical reality!
Anti-Arab racism is absolutely real and serious, and it deserves its own attention. But trying to undermine Jewish suffering by nitpicking terminology is so offensive, divisive, and shows a deep lack of understanding or empathy. You really showed your true colours @Roseandviolin The irony is unreal.

So what's your theory on why only "Jew victims" have names and stories?

What clever fun Greta is having.

https://twitter.com/JakeWSimons/status/1932797266211045800

Media manipulation 1-0-1. And this is only one example why Greta is a hypocritical nuisance. Wold peace is not her true aim, but she sure loves the fun of being a bandwagon activist and appears to revel in the attention and popularity. Pretending her hands are tied is fake news. Fake news does not contribute to lessening international conflict, idiot.

She hasn't even got a degree of qualification in international relations or environmental science, which raises questions about her qualifications to speak on such complex global issues. She'e now merely a hire an activist. I wonder if she has a fee.

To Greta Thunberg
I speak to you as an Arab Muslim activist who has spent the past nine years committed to combating misinformation and working tirelessly to promote peace in the Middle East, with a focus on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Stop using our suffering as PR tool for yourself, Our struggle will not be resolved through performative gestures or virtue signaling—but through the relentless efforts of those truly rooted in the region. History will remember who helped ending the war and who hindered it. We won’t forget nor forgive.

Some funny comments on x people have the measure of her.

WORLD RECORD: Greta Thunberg becomes the first hostage victim in history whose kidnappers’ only demand is that she leave

Did Greta magically teleport to Sicily from Sweden to embark? She either flew, or got a diesel-powered ferry part of the way. What do you suggest? A giant catapult?

Saying that Greta Thunberg was kidnapped is spitting in the face of Ruby Chen, who has been waiting 614 days — 1 year and 9 months — to retrieve the body of her murdered son, Itay, and lay him to rest. You want to talk about hostages? Talk about him.

I'll stop spamming this thread now, but some of these made me laugh. I'm not a great fan of social media and especially x but it's interesting to see some of the responses and reassuring how people can see through her. The fake hand cuffs and claiming she's been kidnapped are super annoying though, yes dear, you want to be on the right side of history, yet you are merely contributing to disingenuous communication manipulating people's feelings and basically lying and meddling while enjoying the media spectacle.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/06/2025 15:58

She's not alone in that, @5aSidekick, but what beats the heck out of me is why people lavish attention on her, and all over a silly self promoter who seems to think that clicks and being photographed scowling at people mattter

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 12/06/2025 16:33

That poster is making a direct comparison between the way Gazans have been treated by Israeli Jews and the way Nazis treated Jewish people and other minorities they wished to exterminate.

That poster's argument is that when the war ended in an allied victory, women who had collaborated with Nazis were quite possibly rounded up by mobs and treated pretty roughly as payback. Therefore it's only to be expected that Gazans should want to mete out the same punishment to Israel women now. Or something.

So basically, we've come full circle. The Israeli Jews are now the Nazis in this story, and Jewish women deserve all they get, while the Palestinians in Gaza have taken the place of the persecuted Jews. Except I see no gas chambers and even by the inflated nonsense figures of Hamas, we haven't reached six million dead. But that's probably because this isn't an actual genocide. Not even close.

Yes. She totally is. Mindblowing, isn't it?
