Greta’s flotilla

What are you thoughts on this? 13 people including Greta Thunberg were travelling to Palestine via boat with supplies. It’s been intercepted by Isreal and diverted.

Whatvare your thoughts? I’m guessing they will simply be deported, maybe with a severe telling off? The UN and the Palestinian foreign ministry have vocalised their support and asked for them to be allowed to continue their journey, however Isreal have said it was nothing more than a vanity exercise and they had very limited supplies on board to actually give aid.

What do you think will happen to the activists on board? Do you think they were right to go? Do you think they genuinely wanted to help or it was more about raising awareness?

I like Greta and I love that she has, so far, used her life to champion causes and she seems like a clever and funny woman. But I wonder if this trio was always doomed and what their long term plan was, especially if they had little aid onboard? But if that was their intention, maybe they just wanted to raise awareness of their feelings on the situation? Should anyone be trying to intervene like this or should it be left to proper channels?

I know feelings are high about this and I want to say I don’t support any of the awful things that have happened and recognise bad things on both sides. I don’t care for Israel’s terrible behaviour or Hamas’ awful doings, I do however care for the innocent people in the middle on both sides. This thread is just to get general thoughts on this…’mission’.

Just to add my thoughts: if this was a genuine aid mission then I respect them putting themselves potentially at risk (due to the boat trip) to care for others but also feel like it’s extremely naive and not actually the right thing to do, there has to be better ways to support?

Remember the footage of Sinwar's wife waddling through the tunnels? That family had food. Meanwhile the six Israeli hostages who were being kept near them, and who were later executed, were found to have suffered severe malnutrition before they were massacred.

Gogreengoblin · 10/06/2025 22:47

I can honestly say that I can see more than one point of view here.
At the very least, Great brought more news coverage to the cause, and it may have been partially for self image purposes, but there's definitely been some positive points to it.
It's made the IDF look bad, because they are and it's hopefully made some Palestinians feel a bit more cared about.
You could say it was a bit of a foolish operation and I can see why due to the small stocks they brought and the likelihood that the crew would be hurt or have a fruitless journey was high.

foxgloveswaving · 10/06/2025 22:48

There are real hostages. It's an insult.

foxgloveswaving · 10/06/2025 22:50

@Roseandviolin Your comments are disgusting.

Genocide? The only ones committing genocide are Hamas towards Israel. It's literally in their charter. Did you see what they did on October 7th? The Palestinian population is actually growing if you look at the numbers.
And as for starvation, honestly I've never seen such overweight people who have no food.
Hamas are the ones blocking food. They have literally shot and maimed their own people this week for trying to raid their warehouses. More food went into Gaza before the latest blockade than they could have possibly eaten. Gazan restaurants on Instagram have plenty of food. Hamas is withholding it from it's people and blaming Israel because they know the world hates Jews. You are literally playing into their hands.

Edited

90 percent of Gaza is destroyed. Nearly 2 million people have been displaced. Thousands upon thousands killed. Israel have announced plans for 22 new settlements in the illegally occupied west bank. There is no justification for what Israel are doing. It couldn't be clearer that it is a genocide.

I mean this honestly and with genuine compassion, I feel really sorry for you because either you believe the crazy lies that this wicked regime is planting or you are just a deeply malevolent actor.

There is no good ending for Israel here. What are the Palestinian people supposed to do? Die, continue to endure or just flee and forget? They won't. Both Palestinian and Israeli people deserve a more hopeful future.

KurtansCurtain · 11/06/2025 06:44

Where’s your source for 90% of Gaza being destroyed? Before you say google it, I have.

You’re only going back to 1948? That’s incredibly selective. Do some reading. This conflict is complex and goes back centuries, if not millennia, before 1948.

Well, they need to return Northern America to the natives, following this convenient logic

mumandmumber · 11/06/2025 07:54

It honestly blows my mind how confidently people argue their positions — on both sides of the debate — as if what they’re reading on social media or in the mainstream press is pure truth. Have we not learned by now, after years of exposed bias, misinformation, and spin, that so much of what we’re fed comes with an agenda? Yet people still cling to headlines and threads like they’re undeniable facts, forgetting how often those narratives fall apart with time.

Saying that’s a falsehood is simply a falsehood.

do you see how that works? Unless you’re actually there on the ground you have NO idea what the truth is. Of course Hamas and their online supporters will say they’re not. Of course the IDF will say they are

mumandmumber · 11/06/2025 08:25

Trying to get people to take a step back and actually question what they’re consuming feels almost futile at this point. So many are deeply committed to their “side” that questioning anything — even with genuine curiosity — feels like a betrayal. It’s not just about the issue anymore; it’s tied to identity, morality, and self-worth. And really, that’s human instinct — we’re wired to seek certainty, to stay loyal to our tribe, and to defend what we’ve already invested in, even when the ground starts to shift. Admitting we might have been wrong feels threatening, so most people double down instead of looking deeper.

Lalgarh · 11/06/2025 08:29

It would be nice if Sudan civil war got as much coverage. Both there are barring journalists access but there are already several million displaced

Very thought provoking post, thank you

KurtansCurtain · 11/06/2025 10:27

That YouTube video isn’t proof - also the other sources say “damaged or destroyed”. 90% damaged or destroyed (which is what I found by googling) is fucking awful as it is, but it could (I’m not saying it does) mean 10% destroyed and 80% damaged - you decided that it means 90% destroyed so you go off and say it as if it’s a fact. When you try to mislead about the actual numbers or exaggerate them you undermine your own credibility. It makes people wonder what else is being exaggerated.

if you reported it accurately in the first place I wouldn’t have asked - because my own googling would have backed up what you said

When you have a regime which joked about helping the population with obesity, whilst thundering that no food is getting in, you know who you're dealing with.

I have seen no credible reports that Hamas are blocking people from getting the food.

Thank you. It’s something I ponder often. Glad to see some people on here are equally curious and open minded.

How do you know what Hamas are doing with this level of certainty?

Dangermoo · 11/06/2025 12:15

Fancy Thunberg not doing research on her fellow passengers.

Cowsgomooo · 11/06/2025 12:16

Have you seen the images? You can see for yourself the state of Gaza.

You are quibbling between damaged and destroyed. I don't think by saying damaged they mean a roof tile fallen off or a bit of plaster cracked.

Why do you feel so driven to defend the actions of this Israeli government?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/06/2025 16:00

Why not let them deliver the aid?

TBH I'd have thought the Palestinians have problems enough without having to deal with Greta waving a phone in their faces for another selfie

Pointless virtue signalling all of it, and so predictable that they refused to watch the footage of the October atrocities

Dangermoo · 11/06/2025 16:09

I was looking for Douglas Murray's take on it. He didn't let me down either; he dispatched her, as easily as swatting a fly.
