Greta’s flotilla

What are you thoughts on this? 13 people including Greta Thunberg were travelling to Palestine via boat with supplies. It’s been intercepted by Isreal and diverted.

Whatvare your thoughts? I’m guessing they will simply be deported, maybe with a severe telling off? The UN and the Palestinian foreign ministry have vocalised their support and asked for them to be allowed to continue their journey, however Isreal have said it was nothing more than a vanity exercise and they had very limited supplies on board to actually give aid.

What do you think will happen to the activists on board? Do you think they were right to go? Do you think they genuinely wanted to help or it was more about raising awareness?

I like Greta and I love that she has, so far, used her life to champion causes and she seems like a clever and funny woman. But I wonder if this trio was always doomed and what their long term plan was, especially if they had little aid onboard? But if that was their intention, maybe they just wanted to raise awareness of their feelings on the situation? Should anyone be trying to intervene like this or should it be left to proper channels?

I know feelings are high about this and I want to say I don’t support any of the awful things that have happened and recognise bad things on both sides. I don’t care for Israel’s terrible behaviour or Hamas’ awful doings, I do however care for the innocent people in the middle on both sides. This thread is just to get general thoughts on this…’mission’.

Just to add my thoughts: if this was a genuine aid mission then I respect them putting themselves potentially at risk (due to the boat trip) to care for others but also feel like it’s extremely naive and not actually the right thing to do, there has to be better ways to support?

Israel did a really good killing journalists reporting from Gaza.

Al Jazeera is a good news channel with some good front line reporting in this conflict. Nothing wrong with getting your news from different news sources offering different perspectives. Maybe you should give it a go?

What different perspectives? Al Jazeera is left leaning.

Genocide isn't what it used to be.

What a flippant statement to make.

I won’t ask you about your source here as I don’t need to.

Ofc journalists as Hamas fighters in disguise as are all the aid workers, medical personell etc Israel have gunned down. I am going to leave this thread now as I just cannot debate with genocide - apologists.

You do know that genocide is literally in Hamas' charter? Whereas the Israelis warn civilians before attacking - not exactly genocidal. And if Hamas didn't hide within/underneath civilian buildings there wouldn't be so many casualties. Yet still the media fall for it. Hamas know exactly what they're doing.

IDF don't use human shields. They also don't dress up as journalists and doctors. But they do warn civilians to get out of the way - which tbh is more than the Allies ever did.

Wrong. There is so much evidence of them using human shields. They call them mosquitos and they get them to search the buildings. It's a common practice

They dress up as doctors also. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/jan/30/israel-forces-disguised-women-medics-storm-hospital-jenin-west-bank

You need to start doing some basic research because you are spouting lies.

Mosquito Protocol: Israel’s Systematic Use of Palestinians as Human Shields

Israel has repeatedly claimed without evidence that Hamas endangers civilians by hiding behind human shields. It turns out, however, that Israel has systematically used Palestinians as human shields in violation of both international and Israeli law. A...

I wonder if Greta had ever given a thought to Noya Dan, the 12 year old autistic girl actually kidnapped and then executed while being frogmarched at gunpoint towards Gaza, possibly because Hamas considered her too much of a liability to be held captive?

Most people manage to feel both shocked, sad and angry about actions by Hamas and the Israeli government. I am not sure how many times this needs to be said as it’s just not sinking in.

I am NOT a Hamas supporter so I don’t know why you write as if I am.
I am not even going to comment on your comments there that Israel are warning civilians.
Both Hamas and Israel are war criminals.

I would like the removal of both Hamas and the current Israeli government

No one at the UK marches seems to call for the removal of Hamas though - or if they do they are threatened by a minority of pro-Palestinian supporters, moved on by the police or arrested. Campaigner Peter Tatchell recently held up a placard on a march criticising both Israel and Hamas - he was reported to the police by the march stewards and arrested. Tatchell said he had supported the Palestine Solidarity movement for over 50 years but he was prevented from criticising Hamas on the march.

Well, that's a classic example of a lefty luvvie having his naive misplaced loyalty thrown back in his face.

Greta is all white privilege, rich privilege.

"My name is Greta Thunberg and I'm from Sweden"
Yes dear you are from a Swedish family in Sweden and thus privileged beyond imagination.

It's funny when someone likes to meddle in highly sensitive international politics but they have no communication or diplomacy skills, maturity or political know-how. 😂 Back to your cosy Sweden and the immensely comfortable lifestyle she comes from.

She is a PR product of her fame hungry parents, completely inauthentic.

Sadly this doesn't seem to be evident from the behaviour of people on the marches. Criticism seems to be very one sided.

Interesting post. Have you ever thought about how Hamas can recruit so many young men to become fighters and terrorists?

She can be white and have a social conscience.
She can be from a well off family and know right from wrong.
She can be Swedish and fight for the underdog.
She can have had a comfortable lifestyle and have morals.
All of the above can be true - that must seriously blow your mind!

Itallcomesdowntothis · 10/06/2025 17:11

Virtue signalling! Why? Because not once in the entire conflict has she ever said or wrote something about this issue. And now after months and months and months and months she does this? Give me a break.

If she was there day one (or even first month) in a boat, or at the border, or on tv, or writing about it etc then perfectly fine:

This is the definition of jumping on a bandwagon and trying to look like a hero .

Doesn't it just. When tested and pushed, people will be at pains to point out that of course they are anti-Hamas as well as anti-zionism, anti-Israel, anti this Israeli government. But only when really pushed....

Most of the time all we hear is pro-Palestine, pro-Palestinians, pro-Gaza, anti Israel, anti zionism, anti Israeli government, anti IDF, and yes, very thinly veiled anti Jew.

Hamas barely gets a mention. And when they do it's always 'yes but what you need to understand is, context ,context, yada yada.'

How do you know she has not said or written anything about Gaza previously? I know you would prefer her to stay in her lane and sit in Sweden and write a neat little column, but you wouldn’t hear about it then would you?

Sadly the deeply tragic topic of Gaza and Israel is too deep for Greta. Never mind. She got her additional 2 minutes of fame. Although she looks kinda miffed on the plane home. I hope she won't forget to purchase carbon offsets.
