Greta’s flotilla

What are you thoughts on this? 13 people including Greta Thunberg were travelling to Palestine via boat with supplies. It’s been intercepted by Isreal and diverted.

Whatvare your thoughts? I’m guessing they will simply be deported, maybe with a severe telling off? The UN and the Palestinian foreign ministry have vocalised their support and asked for them to be allowed to continue their journey, however Isreal have said it was nothing more than a vanity exercise and they had very limited supplies on board to actually give aid.

What do you think will happen to the activists on board? Do you think they were right to go? Do you think they genuinely wanted to help or it was more about raising awareness?

I like Greta and I love that she has, so far, used her life to champion causes and she seems like a clever and funny woman. But I wonder if this trio was always doomed and what their long term plan was, especially if they had little aid onboard? But if that was their intention, maybe they just wanted to raise awareness of their feelings on the situation? Should anyone be trying to intervene like this or should it be left to proper channels?

I know feelings are high about this and I want to say I don’t support any of the awful things that have happened and recognise bad things on both sides. I don’t care for Israel’s terrible behaviour or Hamas’ awful doings, I do however care for the innocent people in the middle on both sides. This thread is just to get general thoughts on this…’mission’.

Just to add my thoughts: if this was a genuine aid mission then I respect them putting themselves potentially at risk (due to the boat trip) to care for others but also feel like it’s extremely naive and not actually the right thing to do, there has to be better ways to support?

Thunberg does know the carnage and is doing an Owen Jones on this. It's one of the reasons I find the pair of them repugnant.

I think you’re missing what I’m trying to say. If Israelis think watching these things aids clarity why not apply that thinking to themselves? I just don’t get it. If what IDF are doing is the right thing why not show the world?

The whole world is watching what Israel is doing; she is fine with that. The whole world saw what Hamas did. The only mistake Israel made was not releasing the footage, in its entirety, in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Israel have massively failed on the PR front. But they are in a war and assumed the world would support them after the biggest terror attack in living memory. Hamas had years to prepare for this massacre, and to also prepare for how Israel would respond and how they would use this to their advantage. The world needs to open their eyes. They won't stop with Israel as is evident by the huge upturn in antisemitism globally. But unfortunately Jews are the minority that no one is interested in speaking up for.

I can't name the thread, but something recently came up, where a Jewish MNer posted her harrowing treatment. Crickets. Hamas and their chiefs have much bigger plans, after they are done with the Jewish community; I'm only glad to be part of the faction of society, who can be prepared for it.

ETD: whilst supporting a Jewish community, which desperately needs it.

Daily Mail reporting that Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has said that Greta and chums refused to watch the video of the October 7th attacks. The Guardian have not covered this, natch.

Why would she refuse to watch if she's not an anti-Semite? Surely she cares about all suffering, no matter who's doing the suffering?

Yes why wouldn’t you care about this suffering?

Because the Guardian and much of the Western media are totally blinkered when it comes to Israel.

Thank you. It means a lot. The way Jewish people now are having to conceal their identities is very very scary.

Yes, as can be seen by Owen Jones saying the exact opposite to what you just have. I found him repellant before but now he's merely reminding me of why I also detest Thunberg. He has come in useful, after all.

Well you're here talking about it, aren't you? You must get your information from Al Jazeera somewhere?

HelenaWaiting · 10/06/2025 11:14

I didn't know it was possible to make a living this way. I always thought activism was a calling rather than a lucrative career.

It is quite clear that, for a large number of people, suffering really does not matter if it is a Jew doing the suffering.

This was compounded - not alleviated - by the October 7th massacre. Witness the march in support of Palestinians through London that followed swiftly after, in knowledge of what had happened to the Israelis who had been brutalised, raped, tortured, and murdered, before Israel had retaliated.

Which other group of people are treated like this?

I’m talking about visuals of atrocities used to spread understanding (though maybe that’s assumption and wasn’t why the Israelis wanted Greta to watch those videos?). If you genuinely want to stop the war surely you could apply that to your own people?

Israel did a really good killing journalists reporting from Gaza.

Al Jazeera is a good news channel with some good front line reporting in this conflict. Nothing wrong with getting your news from different news sources offering different perspectives. Maybe you should give it a go?

I could understand people marching to free the Palestinians from Hamas. But what is happening in our streets is reminiscent of 1930s Germany. The world is supporting a proscribed terrorist group who's aim is to exterminate all Jews. Our kids are scared. We are scared. The world hates us.

No it really isn’t 1930s Germany. I join these marches and will continue to do so. I find it offensive that what you write.

On these marches are you calling for the removal of Hamas? Or for the return of the hostages who are currently lying in cages being beaten and starved? If not, shame on you.

EsmaCannonball · 10/06/2025 11:36

Many of the 'journalists' in Gaza are less Kate Adie and more Lord Haw-Haw. They are literal Hamas fighters in a press jacket.

As for the IDF using human shields; how would that work? Hamas would just kill the shield and call them a martyr.

NaughtyNellie · 10/06/2025 11:38

I would like the removal of both Hamas and the current Israeli government. Both are guilty of horrendous war crime. Most people are calling for peace. That’s why people are marching. Shame on you for not realising and supporting that. I march with Jewish friends btw who can see clearly…

Greta is now on a plane home. Turns out the Israelis are as bad at kidnapping as they are at genocide.

They sure got rid of her quick didn’t they?

can only imagine how insufferable she is in person so I can’t say I’m surprised

I won’t ask you about your source here as I don’t need to.

Ofc journalists as Hamas fighters in disguise as are all the aid workers, medical personell etc Israel have gunned down. I am going to leave this thread now as I just cannot debate with genocide - apologists.
