'I don't shower every day'

When someone states they don't shower every day would you assume they are washing the important bits on the days they are not showering or would you think they are completely unwashed on those days?
Going off the BO wafting around in the shops yesterday I would assume most people are not washing inbetween showering!

I don’t understand the people that say they don’t shower every day but wash: face, pits, genitals and bum. By the time you’ve done that I would have been out of the shower and dried. A shower only takes me three minutes to wash all those bits but feels so much cleaner.

I do however only wash my hair once a week.

Exactly.

I totally agree with her. 2 or 3 day bum is an absolutely rank thought.

I think 2 to 3 hour bum is an absolutely rank thought if you're so inept at wiping it that it could be described as "crusty".

Eh.. that poster is talking about other people, not themselves.
There are many people who don’t wipe their bum properly, just look at the number of posts about mens skid marked underwear

Posters like that are always talking about other people and not themselves.

You're wiping with dry paper. You could wipe until your skin cracked and not get all the bacteria (which will multiply, because that is the function of bacteria) off.

TheAmusedQuail · 27/04/2025 09:07

But you poo everyday. And wipe with (presumably) just dry toilet paper.

I often poo more than once a day. Does that mean I need a shower after every poo?

bigboykitty · 27/04/2025 09:50

I would assume that they stink but that they're probably certain that they don't smell at all. It seems to be a really common delusion.

I don’t get this obsessive showering every day unless you have a dirty or really manual job. Obviously summer days when everyone is a bit sweaty is different, but the amount of water we waste with this is ridiculous. Same with clothes washing. It’s absolutely not necessary. What does worry me tho are these deodorants that claim to last 72 hours. 🥺

Totally agree. It’s manic and unnecessary. Clothes can be worn more than once. Humans can exist with daily showers. It’s all so bad for the environment too.

There are many places in your house alone - let alone anywhere in public - that will have far more nasty bacteria on them than a bum that was last washed with soap two days ago.

emmatherhino · 27/04/2025 09:52

I shower every other day unless it's hot or I'm on my period. I don't do any strenuous physical activity, I wash on the days I don't.

I do think people are washing less regularly at the moment, we went shopping yesterday and so many people had bags of brand new clothes but stunk to high heaven!
The ones in the changing rooms trying stuff on made me feel a bit sick, I wouldn't want to buy something they had tried on.
I do wonder if nothing has really changed but because smoking indoors has been banned it is just not masking people's BO anymore!

Cost of living, I suppose it’s expensive to heat water if you need to credit the meter. But credit is available for the instant dopamine hit purchases and they can pay later.

Preferably, yes, unless a bidet is available.

WhiteRosesAndThistles · 27/04/2025 08:29

My deodorant claims to last 96 hours!
I wonder if some people forget they only apply deodorant to their underarms and end up stinking from other areas...

I dunno about you but I've never had a waft of unwashed groin hit my nostrils...

1000DayChallenge · 27/04/2025 09:56

I don’t have a shower at the moment - there’s a thread about it somewhere, so I’m currently having very thorough daily washes

I do wonder if people who don’t shower every day DO wash thoroughly, because it takes an awful lot longer for my all over thorough wash that my normal quick showers

TeaAndStrumpets · 27/04/2025 09:56

QueefQueen80s · 27/04/2025 09:41

Because most of those other smells are pleasant to most people..

Really? Detergent smells are just horrible (in my opinion). I go to great trouble to have non smelly cleaning fluids, no air fresheners etc. Open a window, folks.

I don't understand people putting Dettol and Zoflora in their washing machines, either, when they could use a hotter wash to sanitise their laundry.

Exactly. Using a nasty flannel while standing at the basin instead of just hopping in and washing thoroughly in the same amount of time?? Why?? It’s truly baffling.

Definitely. But you're not dragging with kitchen sink/toilet/bin and their smell around with you into public areas.

I don't want to be the one who smells in the office. But you do you.

MrsPositivity1 · 27/04/2025 09:58

I can literally shower in 2 mins if I’m not washing my hair and I’d feel much cleaner than a flannel wash

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/04/2025 09:59

I’ve not really noticed an epidemic of BO so much as clothes that smell mouldy because I assume ppl have had to dry things indoors and maybe can’t afford to put the heating on to do it and don’t have a tumble dryer

mindutopia · 27/04/2025 09:59

I don’t shower every day. I’m going through cancer treatment and some days I just don’t feel well enough to shower or by the time I do, the hot water is gone and it takes about 45 minutes to heat up more (and by then, I’m in bed!).

BUT I always shower if I’m dirty, have gone out for the day, feel smelly, have somewhere to go that involves leaving the house, etc. Otherwise, if I’ve just sat around the house all day and done nothing but drive the dc to school and back, I’d just wash my face, hands and brush teeth.

TheHerboriste · 27/04/2025 09:54

I hope you never suffer from IBS d+ or diverticular disease as somedays you would hardly leave the shower cubicle.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 27/04/2025 10:01

I shower every other day but wash face under arms and private parts everyday. I'm not a very sweaty person and don't smell. However in the summer months I often shower daily.

I went to the dentist last week and there was a chap waiting who was rank with raw sweat. Not a worker from his clothes, he clearly hadn't had a wash in the previous 36 hours.

TheLurpackYears · 27/04/2025 10:03

What do you class as the important bits?
I don't shower everyday and don't stink out shops.
The important bits I was daily are my hands and they need to be repeatedly washed during my working day to ensure the quality if my work.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 27/04/2025 10:06

I don't understand why there are so many threads about obsessive washing and cleanliness and judging other peoples routines and standards. If a person smells they need to wash more, if they don't they don't.

Coconutter24 · 27/04/2025 10:10

Simplepink · 27/04/2025 08:40

Yeah a fanny splash every day and deodorant but honestly full showers are ridiculous and wasteful,

A shower is just as quick as a splash over the sink. I find shower quicker as it’s easier for rinsing
