So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

Base mix is an absolute life changer if you cook from scratch a lot!

CautiousLurker01 · 11/04/2025 20:28

Haagen-dazs and vodka.

Separately or together…

tiny spoons 😂

Every true Mumsnetter has a tiny spoon to make a meal or dessert last. 😁

Frozen mushrooms. Add to any casserole, stew, soup, curry. They had a really nice flavour.
Yorkshire puddings.
Red cabbage with apple.

Veggie base mix - its carrot, celery and onion finely chopped. Saves so much time on busy days. Also frozen stir fry veg is handy to have in and prawns too.

Morrisons now have this!

Boxes of Punjabi samosas. Bake in the oven and they are lovely. Much nicer than the flat triangle kind.

Arancini from M&S.

Itsu bao buns and gyoza.

TGI Fridays frozen sesame chicken strips from Iceland - amazing!

Frozen chapattis and parathas. Just a minute or two in a frying pan and they taste amazing. A million times better than shop bought naan breads, which always seen really dry.

I agree with this , tescos parathas are good and cook in a few seconds in a very hot frying pan.

I also agree that frozen berries are great too, except strawberries they always go mushy

It doesn't sound at all promising, but Iceland's frozen burger buns (do they still do them?) are the best I've ever tasted. Sesame seeds, quite chewy, remind me of a Wimpy burger bun. So much better than the fresh ones.

Electrictoothbrushuser · 11/04/2025 20:53

The Tesco Salt and Chilli Chicken goujons are AMAZING, in a wrap with salad they are one our favourite quick teas 😋

Zanatdy · 11/04/2025 20:53

Frozen spinach. I make up a harris chicken and spinch pasta for work lunches. 90 seconds in the microwave, so easy to add some greens without worrying about wastage / ensuring you’ve got it in. I do like the frozen mash too. I tend to buy the ready meal mash now, as it’s only for me. Tastes quite good, but might get some of the frozen Mccain in again as did like that. I like the frozen jackets too, handy to have in when looking for something quick.

The M&S one is really finely chopped, much finer than I'd ever be able willing to do by hand. I love it!

I use my mini chopper and almost blend it to mush! And I cheat by buying the ready trimmed celery because we would never get through a whole bunch of the stuff because I otherwise hate celery, I think it's vile.

In summer I don't even bother with the celery for soffrito, I blend a large handful of lovage instead, it tastes exactly the same.

A head of celery happily sits in the salad drawer for a month.

Try microwaving for two mins then 2 mins in the air fryer on max crisp.

Ooh I’ll be trying this!!

Do they still have crispy skins ?!

Less time in micro, 15-20 mins in oven for crispy

LillyPJ · 11/04/2025 21:01

Frozen sweetcorn is brilliant - I live alone so can just take how much I need. Frozen broad beans are great too and much less faff and wastage than fresh.

Have added paratha to my list…

Cook a extra one and have it with jam / marmalade/ peanut butter/ nuttella etc 😋

MummyJ36 · 11/04/2025 21:15

Frozen onions (normal and red), frozen garlic and frozen chopped peppers. Absolute life savers and I regularly use them in slow cooker meals.

Snorlaxo · 11/04/2025 21:15

This is yum

Where do you get frozen soffrito?

Waitrose

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 11/04/2025 21:24

Frozen cherries 🍒

longtompot · 11/04/2025 21:28

Frozen ginger and garlic, not together, are great. I'm finding fresh garlic a bit hit and miss and it keeps sprouting, but having frozen cubes of it is really handy. I still like having fresh ginger for topping ramen etc

BrennieGirl · 11/04/2025 21:29

Does frozen spinach not make things watery?

ManchesterLu · 11/04/2025 21:31

I have pretty much every type of vegetable frozen in my freezer, along with every kind of meat. It doesn't matter what I want to make, I literally have the ingredients for everything!

Also the frozen jackets are great too.

I also keep two loaves of bread - white and brown - in the freezer. I don't eat a huge amount of bread, but I can then just toast two pieces whenever I fancy it, and the loaf lasts for ages.

My dream (yes, my life is that sad haha) is to buy a chest freezer and just go to Iceland/Farmfoods and buy EVERYTHING!
